Forums - Sony - Every PS4 Bundled with The Playroom. odd bundled w/o a camera too

Augmented-reality application The Playroom will come pre-loaded on all PlayStation 4 consoles.

Every PlayStation 4 console will come bundled with a pre-loaded copy of The Playroom, Sony has announced.

The Playroom, which was seen during Sony's E3 2013 press conference, is an augmented-reality game that combines the DualShock 4 controller with the PlayStation 4 Camera to interact with a fleet of on-screen robots. The application is also compatible with smartphones, tablets, and the PS Vita.

The app is designed to show off many of the DualShock 4's new features, such as the light bar, touchpad, dual motors, and speaker. These can also be used in The Playroom to play AR mini-games, such as Air Hockey.

While The Playroom comes bundled with the PlayStation 4, the PlayStation 4 Camera does not.

The PlayStation 4 will be released later this year for $399.

A little odd that this is bundled even without the camera. I didn't even realize this was a game either. Just thought it was a tech demo or something.

Would make more sense bundling it (Playroom) with the camera. But then again, why waste a disc or require Internet to download the mini-game collection when it's likely very small in size and having it preinstalled is np for Sony or the consumer.

There will be a camera bundle for people who want the camera.

$399 PS4 without it. $499 with camera and a game.

Gives a choice of whether people want it or not. Dont see anything odd about it - they are pushing the software but if no one cares for it, then they wont use it or get the camera.

I like that option personally.

Just see it odd bundling a game with a console that you cant even play it on.  It is obvioulsy a business strategy but still I find it odd when they could bundle other games for the $400 model if they wanted to.

Who developed it?  Was it media molecule?  I know they was the ones showing it off so I assume it was them.

What Media Molecule showed at PS4 reveal is not the PlayRoom... PlayRoom is developed by a internal department in Sony Japan Studio if I'm not wrong.

Thank you.  I assumed that was "The Playroom".

Isn't this a big like how PlayStation Home comes pre-loaded on all PS3's? But obviously you can't do much on it without an internet connection. Idk.
