Ubisoft has notified users that its online systems have been compromised. The company is urging users to change their passwords as soon as possible.

"We recently found that one of our Web sites was exploited to gain unauthorized access to some of our online systems," the statement reads. "We instantly took steps to close off this access, investigate the incident and begin restoring the integrity of any compromised systems."

According to Ubisoft, data accessed during the breach includes user names, email addresses, and encrypted passwords. "No personal payment information is stored with Ubisoft," the comment continues. "Your debit/credit card information was safe from this intrusion."

Should you wish to change your password, please visit Ubisoft's site or check the email you should have received for a direct link. This isn't the first time that Ubisoft has had security issues with its services.

Our Take
It's never good news when a company suffers a security breach. Ubisoft's strong recommendation to change your password doesn't mean your account can be accessed immediately. The password data is encrypted, which means the contents aren't immediately available without a key. Still, it's better to do this sooner rather than later.

Oh great. Nowadays this is exactly the reason I don't want to create account everywhere. Whenever there's a security breach, I risk other services too because I just can't have a different password for every site. I have several but a different password for dozens of sites? No thanks!

Also, Ubisoft's online service hasn't any value to me so the whole service is just an inconvenience even without this. This just makes it worse. Thanks a lot, Ubisoft!

EDIT: The best thing is that I was able to change my password without knowing what my password used to be because there's no way I remember which of my regular passwords I used on Ubisoft's "service because I don't really use the service. Now I don't know if I should change my password on other services as well and if I should, on which services.
