Ignore all of the Call of Duty titles or GTA or Battlefield 3. Oh, and Assassin's Creed 2 too. All of these titles sold 200k+. You should look and see that Western have had plenty of success in Japan (I'm ignoring all of Nintendo's Western developed games too), even on HD consoles.

200k+ is not enough for an EA, Ubisoft and Activision do you know what I'm saying? Japanese gaming state is on an enclosure, feeding exclusively from internal developed games with occasional drops from the West.

Wat. Not sure how you can get that from the numbers. Japan is still the 2nd largest country when it comes to video game sales. Japanese sales of Call of Duty are likely 5th or 6th in the world (behind US, UK, France, Germany, and Spain).

Rather than use all of Europe, you should take a look at what individual European countries do and then you'll double take Japan as a region.

@ Bolded: Yet the games continue to get localized. If you're this narrow minded (or just ignorant) or other markets, you'd realize that any region able to buy 6 figures of your game is worth investing in.

Not a big deal really. Just means the system is out in say March/April vs November.

It's just that simple.

Japan is a tier 10. France probably buys more xbox's games and consoles.
They are disconnected from the west and they just buy handheld games. Not a single western owned and developed games cracks their chart( I haven't seen at least).
Give them X1 in 2015 when you launch a new model. Or put 360 in a small case with dual screens bundled with a groping game and it will blast off there.

The last of us seemed to do decent in Japan

Xbox Series, PS5 and Switch (+ Many Retro Consoles)

Prediction: Switch 2 will outsell the PS5 by 2030

EU is one big marketplace. All the rules and regulations of the Union apply to the game sales equally in all the countries.

Son¥ and MS have a different game marketing just for EU the second biggest market after US.

It did very well. Will likely do more than 200k as well.

Well sales have gone down quite a bit for home consoles, yes. But portables still seem to be popular there.

Unfortunately/Fortunately there are still a lot of Japanese game developers out there so MS probably feels more forced to release a console there to appease people like Kojima and what not.

1 million units lifetime isn't much in terms of manufcaturing for a country, Japan is defenitely a low priority.
