Forums - Nintendo - Nintendo Has Failed To Acquire WiiU.com

The World Intellectual Property Organisation has denied Nintendo’s request to the URL wiiu.com. The domain belongs to an individual who registered it long before even the original Wii console existed.  The World Intellectual Property Organisation did not cite a specific reason why the filing was denied. But it has emerged that the domain was actually up for auction a few days before Nintendo filed its complaint. Nintendo could have purchased it at a discounted price, but decided not to. It’s unclear whether they will ever own the domain.

They probably thought they would have got approved so they didn't try to buy it, big mistake.  Well I guess its not that big a deal though, I mean when people are searching up the wiiu they will probably type it into google, and not type wiiu.com in their url.

Hey Nintendo,

?

Platinums: Red Dead Redemption, Killzone 2, LittleBigPlanet, Terminator Salvation, Uncharted 1, inFamous Second Son, Rocket League

Who goes to Nintendo websites other than Club Nintendo anyway...?!

That's ok, the only reason I ever visit any of Nintendo's websites (except smashbros.com) is Club Nintendo. No point in doing so besides that.

Exactly the point. It's reasonable to assume words within the name of a domain are one of the first things a search algorithm will go after. And who knows what this one's going to be used to.

Either way, Nintendo screwed up this one. No way they were going to win it considering it was registered in 2004. They should have paid outright the owner.

Could also be a reason why the WiiU sales are staggering so much.
