I didn't have those... only the original.

This is both good and bad. External power is good to keep the console small and not overheat, but it also makes the powercord unique and expensive. I think I prefer internal, as long as they don't try any bs and make it proprietary.

Very impressive considering how small the console is, personally I hate those power blocks.

hmm, I'm not good at technology stuff, but won't the PS4 have overheating problems since its quite small?

Dreamcast's power supply was internal and it's tiny. Only had one little fan in there too.

8th gen predictions. (made early 2014)
PS4: 60-65m
WiiU: 30-35m
X1: 30-35m
3DS: 80-85m
PSV: 15-20m

I had a chat long ago with my buddy who is tech savvy. I m citing his opinions.
"separate psu can not provide any modern power regulation and management options. they only provide a rated voltage. say 12V. but, an internal psu can communicate with the machine on separate wires can provide console circuit extra protection."

That is untrue, the 360 had these features, it would actually place the PSU in a faulty state to stop any damage if a short was detected.  It also had a voltage cleaning circuit on the motherboard to ensure the power delivered was perfect.  There is no advantage to a internal power supply other than space saving.  The positives for having a external PSU mean its replaceable and one less component inside the console that could fail.  In summary a external PSU is only a negative if you've some sort of obsessive compulsion against wires.

My buddy asks, Internal psu (e.g. PC ATX power supplies) are lot complex and can supply many c-states of a procesor according to demand, having multiple power rails, including negative ones and and much higher current rating(20Amp+), combined with BIOS-level integration and OS level power managing an internal psu can achieve absolutely anything : ultimate power saving, incredibly high efficiency...which is simply out of question for an adapter/power brick over dc barrel jack.
