Sony FTW. You can't really say you're a gamer if you don't play PlayStation, in my opinion.

@Runa216 I find it truly disturbing you called Demon's Souls "Western" it's a JAPANESE Action-RPG. Absolutely nothing "western" about it.

It's complicated, but region has nothing to do with whether it's a JRPG or a Western RPG.  Just like Easter Dragons can come from the west.

I know a lot of people get butthurt about it, but Demon's Souls is NOT a JRPG, even though it was made in Japan.  It's a japanese developer trying to make a Western RPG.  It's kind of like Retro making Metroid Prime a First PErson Shooter.  you may be in first person mode doing a lot of shooting, but it's not an FPS.

Again, it's got nothing Western in its design or gameplay, lol. It's not what is traditionally called a JRPG. It's an ACTION-RPG.

I voted Wii because Xenoblade. But the other games are not "classics", they are original

I played almost all the games on the Sony and Nintendo side. I have to say, I think Sony had the best exclusives this gen.

Nintendo had the best single game (galaxy) but Sony had more consistent quality and variety.

In terms of overall quality, I think Sony won this gen.

Copycat. You could've at least had the decency to quote me.

Xbox being, in general, the bro-core console for shooters......is not exactly a surprise.

PS3 had some decent exclusives, 3D Dot Game Heroes was one of the best games of the gen.

But for my money, I played my Wii more than my PS3, by far. I suppose it just appealed more to my old school gamer sensibilities. I hope the Wii U continues that trend.

excellent comparison. I like Gears but I honestly can't have it support a console. This is why I always buy Sony systems near launch (PS4 will be my first at launch) because they have a variety of IP and develop in different genres. Nintendo is the platformmaster but if Sony would support a franchise like Jak or Sly more they could rival them. The only one they supported well (until A4O) was Ratchet and even then they release too many too quick. The only problem with Sony is they over release an IP in one gen like Twisted Metal on PS1 or Ratchet on PS3 (the last 2 Ratchets shouldn't have happened they should have concentrated resources on having a REAL one for PS4 launch). They exhaust people on a franchise or wait too long and don't advertise a new release (I sold Sly on 5 people just by bringing its existence to their attention because it was the first they had heard of a new Sly). They need better marketing (this new firm is doing good) and need to realize when a series should wait a little or get a reboot (GoW's story is done now please give us a reboot in Norse or Egyptian for a PS4 pair of games because not everything has to be a trilogy which Infamous proved).

I can argue with you that the reason why Sony doesn't have enough platformers is because they are not as good as Nintendo.

Smart from them, why to fight against the best on their own field?

I think they beat Nintendo in 6th gen in that area.  Sly, Jak, and Ratchet had awesome trilogies on PS2 while Mario Sunshine disappointed and there was no DKC while Metroid turned into an FPS adventure.  I have a hard time considering zelda a platformer straight up without a jump button.  However Ratchet was pretty much the only one carrying PS platformers this gen till Sly 4 (my favorite in the series) while Nintendo stepped up their game with NSMB, 2 3D Marios that were brilliant, and DKCR.  Not sure how to count games like Zelda, Metroid, Infamous, Uncharted and all because they have platforming elements but I don't really see them as platformers per se.  I wish there were more 3D ones than Mario coming because it's my favorite genre and I don't want all "retro" ones.  Rayman was amazing and I'm glad it's getting a sequel I can only hope Knack does well and Sly 5 and Jak 4 happen.  Also I'm sure some of those 20 exclusives and 12 new IP will be platformers.

PS3:  these are the top ten PS3 exclusives.  All of these are retail games.

1 - 96.38% - Uncharted 2: Among Thieves (Action/Adventure)

2 - 95.05% - The Last of Us (Uh, hard to classify.  Horror/adventure?)

3 - 94.75% - LittlebigPlanet (Platformer)

4 - 93.53% - Metal Gear Solid 4: Guns of the Patriots (Stealth Action)

5 - 92.63% - God of War III (Action)

6 - 92.56% - Journey (Adventure)

7 - 92.04% - LittlebigPlanet 2 (Platformer)

8 - 91.79% - Ico and Shadow of the Colossus  HD (Adventure)

9 - 91.78% - Uncharted 3: Drake's Deception (Action/Adventure)

10- 90.56% - Killzone 2 (First Person Shooter)

So.... a bunch of shooters (killzone 2, Uncharted 3, Uncharted 2) ... two shooter hybrid games (Metal Gear and Last of Us) .... So basically 5/10 shooters.

Two platformers (same ip as well) 2/10 platformers. One action game (1/10 action) and two adventures ... one of which is just a PS2 port collection which says more about the strengths of the PS2 than the PS3 for (2/10 adventure).

4 genres = variety compared to 360's 2 genres (more like 3 since Fable barely misses the cut ... maybe the remake will do well enough to make it since Fable 1 always was the best).

Facts are facts. Both systems have half of their top 10 dominated by shooters ... which is to be expected this being the generation where shooters have skyrocketed in popularity. After that, the list is kind of skewed by 360's very high quality Forza franchise which, due to its higher scores, bumps Fable off the list which would round things out more as the major action/adventure exclusive 360 offers.

PS3 offers a platformer in the way of Littlebigplanet and an action game with God of War.

Seems like both lists are rather similiar when put into perspective. When speaking of 360's exclusives it has always been Halo, Gears, Forza, and Fable as the big ones. Fable as a franchise has sold 12 million (according to vg chartz) which is just 3 million behind Forza. It just so happens that Forza's high scores bump Fable off the top 10 list. If it were on the list 360 would have 3 main genres compared to Sony's 4 ... not that big of a difference.

If Trials is a racer, then MGS, TLOU and all Uncharteds are easily third person shooters.

I think PS3 has the most great exclusives but as for quality it's on par with Wii.
