The funny thing is, we already had a time when Valve did curate their store... And people hated it. Many excellent indie games and even some non-indie games wouldn't make it to the store or they will make it a long time after they have come out. So Valve tried to listen to the fans then and came up with Steam GrennLight which I still think the concept was a great one but of course, it eventually didn't go the way they wanted it to go. So Valve is once again trying to listen to the fans and trying to revamp their store but people are still like derp, they are bad.

It feels like what people think is gonna happen is that Valve is gonna turn on a switch and then boom, all the bad games will go away and only the good games will remain which will never be the case. If Valve really is starting to curate their store, it's not gonna happen overnight and plenty of good and some questionable games won't be allowed to come to the store on the way since that is how curation works. It's all subjective and It will probably take them a couple of years to fully revamp everything and get it working.

And of course, people's usual response is, but Valve is making billions! Guess what? So is every other company! Yet none of the other companies really have a really good service like Steam. Like you look at Family Sharing, Cloud storage that is done on a per game biases instead of a total amount and etc, that is only on steam. You don't see Origin and etc having all of that that and Sony's/MS's implementation is not only lolz worthy but also costs money...

Oh well. What can ya do...

I think at this point, there is no winning with those people. Those people that have disliked Steam and what they've done over the years aren't likely to change.

I know someone could say the same in regards to the other clients out there, but let's be brutally honest here, none of them have done as much as Steam has in inviting devs to their storefront and giving them support.

I just wish that the competition cared as much as Steam has over the years, but that doesn't look like it'll change either. EA is super happy with netting as few sales as they do on origin, while Blizzard seemingly ignores everyone else. Ubisoft is technically taking sales via Steam, since you ultimately need to use their client, which doesn't net a lot of sales from their own storefront (hence the "free" games they've been handing out, which are all mostly older titles that didn't sell well on PC to begin with).

GOG will never be able to compete with Steam for one simple reason: DRM.

Steam is a safe and not very intrusive DRM system, but CD Projekt has one simple with rule with GOG, and that is no DRM. Consequently, third parties don't want to put their new games at GOG because they fear of piracy and, without them, they'll never be able to compete face to face with Steam.

Then in the end, people should try thinking that GoG>Steam, because it ultimately cannot compete with Steam due to their one policy they stick with.

That doesn't mean the other clients out there cannot compete with Steam, they are just lazy and only care about what they want to sell, not what consumers want.

Steam is no different, they just have the advantage because they're the biggest.

They have the advanateg because people are allowed to sell on their storefront.

Like I said before, where are the rest of them (apart from GoG being super selective) opening their gates for all the other AAA and indie titles to their storefronts?.

Steam is vastly different to the other stores, there is no comparison, because the other stores have half the library and half the features that Steam has. It's like when people try to compare a low end console to an enthusiast end PC, they aren't going to be the same.

How about Valve fuck right off with that shit on Steam ?

At least the others behind running a digital retail platform make good AAA games once in a while so that's one excuse for why they don't focus so much on competing against Steam but where's Valve's contribution to PC gaming ?

Nobody asked Valve to devolve into the other clients, we would've wanted Steam to be the equivalent of Amazon or Netflix for gaming but instead they just keep getting worse ...

I sincerely hope Valve gets ruined since they are cancer to PC gaming just like Crytek is right now ...

I hope Valve carries on, just to keep the rage alive.

Meanwhile, I'll be waiting for the other store clients to become top dog, so we can rant about how they aren't holding a monopoly and how it's "deserved" that they have it.

Anti net neutrality folk have no say in what can and cannot do business.

The funny thing is... I think if Valve didn't become the top dog or heck, if another service even if it is GOG becomes top dog instead of Valve, people will find things to whine about.

No one can really please these people now can they? Valve curates the store! Fuck em! Valve lets the community decide! Fuck em! Valve makes games! Fuck em! Valve doesn't make games! Fuck em! Valve helped save PC gaming! Fuck em! etc...

Tb, those folk were never really on board with them in the first place. A heavily curated Steam means we get less one hit wonders, high chances of less exclusives (as one example), as devs being pushed aside could easily work a deal with one of the big 3.

The funny thing is, even if GoG or another was top dog, that other crowd would be singing praise out the ass. I'm not a massive blind fan of Steam, but I know they've done a whole lot more for PC gaming than the other clients have. I know Steam has trash on their store, but the other publishers have released shitty PC ports, or AAA games loaded with MT's or being designed around GaaS. Yet conveniently, those people let all that trash slide.
