Thanks for sharing!

Oddly enough, I haven't gotten the game . I did the surver, put my e-mail and confirmed the subscription, but I got nothing. Oh, well, maybe the mail with the code will arrive later.

Check your Steam library, probably the game is already unlocked there.

They don't send a Steam key

That would be a bit odd, as they only asked the mail, but nothing about my Steam account.

But I'll check it out once I get home.

Please excuse my bad English.

Looks like I missed out. Getting a 404 error.

According to the German Gamestar review of Elex it seems to be exactly Gothic. Horrible battle mechanics, janky animations, loads of bugs and the best RPG world anyone has ever seen. They gave it an 85.

Can't wait until Steam finally allows me to install.

^It always baffles me when a review points a lot of negatives of a game, yet the final score is good. Either the negatives aren't really that bad, or the review/reviewer sucks.

It's about priorities. A reviewer is allowed to have them. There are a lot of things to focus in a game. I for example couldn't give a shit about graphics or story or even combat in open world games. It's all about the journey and the freedom.

So while Elex might suck in those things the most important aspect for me, the world and freedom, are perfect. So other drawbacks won't count for much. And really, world building of Piranha Bytes is as great as it can get.

Now look at trash like BOTW. It's very polished but absolutely hates freedom and only delivers an extremely bland and boring world. Most of the reviewers prioritised being annoyed and bored to death, so it got great scores. Which is fine.

I always find it more baffling when a reviewer gives a game 100 and then lists negative points, For me at least if your going to slap a perfect 100 score on a game it should be absolutely perfect and if you have even a single negative they should drop at least 1 point to reflect it.

While I understand your point, the truth is that a game score should reflect the quality of a game as a whole. It's the function of the actual review to let you know what is what a game does right and wrong. So, if a game does wrong things like battle mechanics or animations, the game score should note that it's not a very good game, even if it excels in one.

Of course, that brings us to the old debate of using the whole range of scores, not only from 5/6 to 10, and that we all should read the actual reviews, not just the scores, but I'm affraid that that's lots cause.

Also, I enjoyed BoTW .

In my opinion, no game deserves a 10 because there's always room for improvement, even for the best games. And let's be honest, many of the games that got perfect scores in the past didn't deserve them, even back then (*cough*GTA IV*cough*).

I haven't read the review, but I know exactly what he means...all Piranha Bytes games are aquired taste, for one thing or the other, but they excel in most important things when it comes to open-world.

85 is right about in range where I should expect it, if it's quite good game - personally, even Gothic 1&2, which for me are still the best open-world action-RPGs ever made, are in that 80-90 range...simply put, that genre, beside being probably the most demanding too pull off, has not been improving since Gothic/Morrowind...quite the opposite in my opinion...and remains terribly underdeveloped compared to its linear cousins.

And I said, or at least tried to, it's perfectly ok to be excited for a game that doesn't excels in any aspect excep the one you are looking forward the most. But that doesn't mean that a review score should put the rest of the game aspects aside just because of that.

To make my point a little more clearer: if, back in school, I got a 10 in mathematics but failed in all the other subjects, I would still have to repeat the course and would be scolded by my parents, despite that 10.

It's the overall game that matters and should be reflected on the score, not just one part of it.

http://www.dsogaming.com/news/ray-tracing-games-requires-100x-powerful-gpus-photorealistic-virtual-reality-requires-40x/
As we’ve said numerous times, we believe that ray-tracing is the future of lighting in video-games. While there have been some attempts in various tech demos to implement a fully ray-tracing rendering system, we haven’t seen any triple-A game featuring it. And from the looks of it, we won’t see such a thing anytime soon. According to NVIDIA’s president in Brasil, Richard Cameron, we need 100 times more powerful graphics cards to achieve this.
