Facebook kills AI that invented its own language because English was slow

Some wonderful things are in development because of advances made in artificial intelligence and machine learning technologies. At the same time, there is perhaps an uncomfortable fear that machines may rise up and turn against humans. Usually the scenario is brought up in a joking matter, but it was no laughing manner to researchers at Facebook who shut down an AI they invented after it taught itself a new language, Digital Journal reports.

The AI was trained in English but apparently had grown fed up with the various nuances and inconsistencies. Rather than continue down that path, it developed a system of code words to make communication more efficient.

What spooked the researchers is that the phrases used by the AI seemed like gibberish and were unintelligible to them, but made perfect sense to AI agents. This allowed the AI agents to communicate with one another without the researchers knowing what information was being shared.

<SNIP>

I think we can assume that is fairly accurate from all the other information we have thus far.

The 10 core chip is the only chip that is attractive to me though to be honest. And it is way overpriced.

Some really low base clocks like 2.6/2.8/2.9Ghz there too.

Mhmm. I think at this rate, my next upgrade won't be anything less than 16 cores.

A few reviews of Intel's 7900X show the processor throttling due to heat, when overclocked. It's entirely possible that the processors with more cores have lower frewuencies because they reach their thermal limit faster than the 10-core part.

Intel should go back to soldering the heatspreader and forget the cheaper TIM solution they've been using, at least for high end processors like these ones.

Please excuse my bad English.

Former gaming PC: i5-4670k@stock (for now), 16Gb RAM 1600 MHz and a GTX 1070

Current gaming PC: R5-7600, 32GB RAM 6000MT/s (CL30) and a RX 9060XT 16GB

Yeah. I honestly dont get why Intel just doesn't go back to Indium based solder for the heatspreader. Everyone has been screaching at them to do it, but they continue to resist.
I would assume it's to increase profit margins and make the manufacturing process easier and quicker.

And that is a valid option when you have no competition and the performance isn't affected by it, but apparently Intel hasn't realized (yet) that none of that is true anymore.

We're far away from an AI acquiring materials to to build its own army, undetected no less. An AI doesn't need a body. It can easily cause a lot of havoc on the internet. Though it would need motivation for that. I think the worst thing that could happen over the next 2 decades is scientists accidentally let an AI loose on the internet and it will cause some disruptions accidentally.

Today looks like it might be Vega news day and this week should be filled with benchmarks. The time has come to really see whether or not it can be on par with the 1080 while having a relatively cheap price.

Art this point I've given up any hope and I've also bought and received my 1080ti. AMD had time to do all this yet they chose to delay  and hype things up while also cherry picking as much as possible. I wouldn't be surprised if the launch is hyped to hell and benchmarks being the finest of picked cherries.

Mankind, in its arrogance and self-delusion, must believe they are the mirrors to God in both their image and their power. If something shatters that mirror, then it must be totally destroyed.
