Also the Unity engine now has a mascot character in Japan Unity-Chan!

http://unity-chan.com/

Unity-chan has an official website and will have 3D assets for use in games.

Unity, the cross-platform game engine used for games from consoles to mobile devices to social games, now has an anime mascot. Unity Technologies Japan revealed Unity-chan in a website for the official mascot along with screenshots of the colorful character.

Read more at http://www.escapistmagazine.com/news/view/130561-Unity-Game-Engine-Obtains-Anime-Mascot-Named-Unity-chan#HjxsrCzH64zDUaZR.99

Designed by ntny, Unity-chan appears to be more wild than demure. Various screenshots show her in high-energy poses, from happy smiles to a kick. Unity is far from the first company to use the popular anime style to breathe life into a mascot character. Earlier this year, Internet Explorer obtained an anime mascot named Inori Aizawa.

Unity Technologies Japan will provide 3D assets of Unity-chan for game developers using Unity to download and use in games. The assets will be released in spring 2014. The company will also display the mascot at its exhibit at the Comic Market 85 event in Tokyo from Dec. 29-31. Unity Technologies Japan will distribute themed goods, and the character's voice actress will also be present. On sale will be official art of Unity-chan. A blog for Unity-chan will be available soon on the character's official website.

Unity is already a popular choice as a game engine. Interactive story adventure game Gone Home, puzzle game The Room, and 3D revisit of a classic realMYST have all used the Unity engine. Its inclusion of an anime mascot is unlikely to have significant changes, but the popularity of anime mascots within Japan is unsurprising.

Magicka: Wizard Wars' combatants are hooked on crystal

Comment

Wizards, much like magpies, are always on the lookout for something new and shiny, so Paradox North has given the murderous, psychopathic spell-flingers of Magicka: Wizard Wars - a game we're rather fond of - some pretty baubles to collect. These are no mere ornaments, though; we're talking about elemental crystals that unlock powerful Magicks. Tools of devastation, then.

And since it's Christmas, the imps are wearing Santa hats and festive cheer permeates throughout the blood-soaked battlefield. Awww, lovely.

Meet Minecraft's in-game 3D printer, powered by redstone and too much brains

Community opinion is divided on their legitimacy of these creations as Great Works.

There’s no question about the creative capabilities of ItsJustJumby, though - the man behind this in-game Minecraft 3D printer.

Heroes & Generals asks players to start at the bottom in its Newgarden update

Comment

Heroes & Generals rather sells itself with its pitch - a war game that’s both FPS and, well, wargame - but this reminder certainly can’t hurt: it exists. Not only that, but since we last took a proper look at it in September, it’s grown like mould on an abandoned crate of spitfire parts buried in Burma. Its most recent protrusions are realistic-yet-practical prone positioning, character progression seemingly modelled on real armed forces careers, and nicer graphics for all.
