Both will be working on CI’s upcoming World War 2 shooter, Enemy Front, which releases next year on PC, PS3 and Xbox 360.

Total Annihilation follow-up ‘probably’ in the works, but Chris Taylor won’t come out and say it

With Gas Powered Games now owned by Wargaming, and with the studio also owning the rights to Total Annihilation, GPG founder Chris Taylor has pretty much said, without saying, that a follow-up to the RTS game is “alive and well”. Without going as far as to announce it as being in the works, Taylor said the following instead (per PC Gamer): “In so far as other RTS properties that I am capable of working on – and I think you know what I’m talking about, I don’t even need to be coy – I think that nerd is alive and well. It’s just not an area I’m ready to talk about yet. But you can use your imagination, even though you’re not on the project. You’re welcome to use your imagination, your imagination will serve you well in this case.”

Alrighty then.

LocoCycle PC release listed by German ratings board

Special Promo: Shutdown Promo!

Showing you how government works, in case yours doesn't!
Speaking from one organization that has had an unpopular shutdown to another: America. What are you doing? America? Stahp.

Shutdowns are never popular, and all of the polls show that this is not a big hit with most Americans either. Americans may be looking for something fun to do, since all their parks are closed for the moment. Thankfully your favorite purveyor of digital games is here to help. It occurs to us that one of the problems may be that there are people on Capitol Hill who don't know what a functioning government looks like, so we thought we'd help and point a few out with a special 24-hour 50% off Shutdown Promo.

The Guild: Gold Edition is a great place to see where the term "Machiavellian Politics" originated from. If you're looking to find a land where earning power was the key to success in the political arena, look no further. Meanwhile, in Capitalism Plus and Capitalism 2, you can get the best economic sims that money can buy half off and see for yourself how a demand economy functions. Tropico Reloaded is 50% off as a reminder of what can happen when governments go awry, and Alpha Centauri (with the Alien Crossfire expansion!) has more different styles of governments modeled than you can shake a stick at. So, really, these games are a quick lesson in civic government. Because we're concerned for you guys.

There has been a lot of furor over health care in America leading up to this shutdown, and we think it's a shame so many people are upset about medicine and how to treat each other. To help further our educational mission for this promo, we figured we'd put Theme Hospital in the sale as well, because that way you can judge for yourself just how tricky it can be to balance the needs of sick patients against limited budgets. Finally, for reasons entirely unrelated to who may or may not have been involved in shutting down the US Government, we also appear to have Redneck Rampage on sale 50% off.

Finally, we would like to express our condolences to everyone who's been furloughed by the shutdown. More than that, actually, we'd like to offer you the games pack of our special Shutdown Promo for free. Send an email to thanksobama@gog.com with your picture holding the official furlough letter you received, before Friday 11 October 2013 at 12:00 EDT and we'll give you The Guild: Gold Edition, Capitalism, Capitalism 2, Tropico: Gold Edition, Alpha Centauri + Alien Crossfire, Theme Hospital, and Redneck Rampage free.

We hope the games will keep you all occupied while you're waiting for someone on Capitol Hill to get their act together. Meanwhile, get The Guild, Capitalism Plus, Capitalism 2, Tropico: Gold Edition, Alpha Centauri + Alien Crossfire, Theme Hospital, and Redneck Rampage 50% off (or free if you met the requirements above), in our special Shutdown Promo! The offer lasts until Thursday, October 10, at 12:59PM GMT.

Dominions 4 out now on Desura

Like your strategy indie, in a franchise, and epic in scope? Dominions 4 glides as smoothly as a Wodehousian butler into this niche; it has 2,000 units, 75 playable nations, and “millions” of possible avatar options. The series debuted 15 years ago and developer Illwinter has now delivered the fourth entry to Desura, for Linux, Mac and PC. Take control of a unique god and guide your nation through three epochs, taking advantage of new features like the Thrones of Ascension, co-op Disciples Mode, 20% more content, and a streamlined UI. Check it out.

Team Fortress 2 update adds autumn content

Team Fortress 2 has received a new patch, which adds the Fall 2013 Acorns Crate and Gourd Crate keys. What is inside these crates? I am uncertain, but with Halowe’en just a few weeks away I have suspicions. The patch also applies a number of fixes including blocking automated craft bots from making hats and the like, and changes to Strange Part. Check the full TF2 patch notes for more information.

The Long Dark: Jennifer Hale signs onto voice cast

Jennifer Hale, a prolific voice actor known for her work on Mass Effect, BioShock Infinite, Halo 4, and Metal Gear Solid among dozens of other notable roles, has signed on for a role in The Long Dark, Hinterland’s first-person, post-disaster survival sim. The Long Dark has five days remaining on its Kickstarter campaign and requires a further $30,000 to reach its $200,000 goal. Check out some early gameplay footage if you’re interested.

The Witcher free with any GOG purchase

GOG is running a promotion which appears to have no downsides for you, the consumer. Buy any title from its extensive collection of Mac and PC games, which includes many classics as well as newer indies, and you’ll score a free copy of The Witcher: Enhanced Edition – kind of a must-play for any RPG fan. The deal runs till October 17. Additionally, delightfully bizarre strategy RPG jetpack dragon mash-up Divinity: Dragon Commander is on sale at 40% off.

Capcom anniversary sale offers hefty Steam discounts

Capcom is 30 years old, and instead of thinking about maybe popping out a second sprog and buying a mini-van it’s throwing a huge Steam sale. All the deals are collated on this Steam page, but Capcom Unity also has a handy-dandy text list if you want a quicker scan. It’s worth having a look just to remind yourself of a bunch of things we’d forgotten the publisher was involved in, like Dark Void, which Brad Pitt got every enthusiastic about, and Fairy Bloom Freesia, which certainly exists, that’s for sure. Discounts up to 75% are on offer.

Cities XL and Blood Bowl feature in new Humble Weekly Bundle

Focus Home Interactive is the star of the latest Humble Weekly Sale, which packs in a wide variety of genres and developers. Pay what you want for Cities XL Platinum, Blood Bowl: Legendary Edition, Divinity 2: Developer’s Cut, R.A.W. Realms of Ancient War, Game of Thrones and Confrontation, and pony up more than $6 for Wargame: European Escalation and The Testament of Sherlock Holmes. Only Wargame: European Escalation is available for anything but PC – you can get it on Mac and Linux – and Steam keys are available for all titles. The deal includes soundtracks for Divinity II, Confrontation and The Testament of Sherlock Holmes. As ever, you decide how profits are split between publisher, organisers and charities – the Red Cross and Child’s Play. The deal is only valid for a limited time so get in quick.

The Stanley Parable gets release date, demo

Unusual and well-received exploratory game The Stanley Parable popped up on Steam today and now boasts an October 18 release date. If you’re yet to try the one-time Half-Life mod, you’re in luck – a free demo has been released, although unfortunately it’s PC only. The Stanley Parable passed through Steam Greenlight almost exactly one year ago; it has been nominated for multiple awards including IGF 2013 and IndieCade 2012.

Thanks, absolutezero.

Oh Yeah, TowerFall On The PC In January

By Craig Pearson on October 10th, 2013 at 7:00 pm.

Android-based consoleface Ouya (pronounced ‘what?’) scooped up at least one game that everyone wanted to play, the multiplayer archery action game Towerfall. We’ve known for a while that it would be coming to the PC, and it was expected to flop onto it sometime in 2013. Well lo and behold, it slipped. That’s what you get for climbing towers, bucko. Did you not learn anything from Season One, Episode One of Game Of Thrones? At least it’s not moved too far along on the release axis, with the developer tentatively aiming at a January 2014 release date. As long as he manages to squeeze in the extras he’s planning.

Arcane And Able: Worlds Of Magic Demo

By Adam Smith on October 10th, 2013 at 6:00 pm.

Two unusual things have happened in the world of Worlds of Magic. You may remember the game from its days on Kickstarter, where Wastelands Interactive pitched it as the spiritual sequel to Master of Magic that, somehow, has failed to materialise over the past couple of decades even though I sacrifice a wizard every Christmas to usher it into being. Worlds of Magic could save the next generation of wizards and make my Boxing Day cleaning less of a chore because it seems to be on the right track. The first unusual thing is the release of a demo, which I hadn’t expected. It only shows the tactical battle grid at the moment but that part certainly feels very MoMish. The second unusual thing is a return to Kickstarter. Hmmm.

Flight Club: CCP’s In-Game Eve Seminars

By Craig Pearson on October 10th, 2013 at 2:00 pm.

The only time I managed to get feel in control in Eve Online was when a friend wise in the ways of 0-0 decided to teach me. He told me what to buy, what to fit to my ship, and what skills to train. It perhaps led me down a path that he’d already worn in the space lanes, and I spent most of my time ferrying goods and waiting for the political intrigue and espionage to begin. Who knows? Maybe I was a puppet in his game of political intrigue and espionage, but it sure felt like I was a courier of insignificant goods. But without him helping me along, I doubt I’d have even gone that far. It’s a relationship that underpins Eve, and now CCP are going to attempt to do something similar. Their New Player Training Sessions will be CCP led in-game seminars, teaching Pod people how to fight more and fumble less.
