THE KHRONOS GROUP: WE’RE NOT TRYING TO COMBAT MICROSOFT, “DX12 RIGHT COMMERCIAL CHOICE FOR SOME DEVS”

http://www.dsogaming.com/news/the-khronos-group-were-not-trying-to-combat-microsoft-dx12-right-commercial-choice-for-some-devs/

Vulkan and DX12 are the APIs that will drive most of the new games the next couple of years. And as we all know, Vulkan supports a wide range of hardware and operating systems, whereas DX12 does not. However, it appears that The Khronos Group – the team behind Vulkan – is not trying to fight Microsoft in order to “make” developers choose Vulkan over DX12.

ATLAS REACTOR, TRION'S TURN-BASED TACTICAL COMBAT GAME, IS ADDING A "FREE MODE"

http://www.pcgamer.com/atlas-reactor-trions-turn-based-tactical-combat-game-is-adding-a-free-mode/

Atlas Reactor, the online tactical combat game that we described back in April as Overwatch meets XCOM (but neither of those things) was originally announced as a free-to-play game. But following an open alpha and a couple of weeks of closed beta testing, Trion Worlds announced that it was switching to an exciting new system of monetization called “buy-to-play,” in which players pay a single, up-front sum of money, and are then granted unlimited access to the full game.

THE HTC VIVE JUST GOT MORE EXPENSIVE IN THE UK

http://www.pcgamer.com/the-htc-vive-just-got-more-expensive-in-the-uk/

One of the outcomes of the historic Brexit vote that began the process of taking the UK out of the EU was the imposition of higher prices for computer hardware. As we reported last month, Dell jacked its prices by ten percent to compensate for the cratered value of the pound sterling, while HP and Lenovo were reportedly considering similar moves. Today there was more bad news, as HTC announced that the price of the Vive VR headset has jumped from £689 to £759.

THE LATEST OVERWATCH BANWAVE INSPIRES TEARS, THREATS, AND HILARITY

http://www.pcgamer.com/the-latest-overwatch-banwave-inspires-tears-threats-and-hilarity/

Another banwave swept the world of Overwatch this weekend, driving the clenched fist of digital justice into the grinning chops of those who would take advantage of exploits and scripts. The crackdown led to two very positive outcomes: One, the game is now cleaner, even if only a little bit, thanks to the reduced number of cheaters; and two, their tears, deliciously cried out onto the Ownedcore forums (via Battle.net), are so, so sweet.

SLAIN! IS REBORN FOLLOWING A POORLY RECEIVED LAUNCH

http://www.pcgamer.com/slain-is-reborn-following-a-poorly-received-launch/

Slain! attracted quite a bit of attention in the lead up to its launch, and rightly so: in motion it looked really cool. The hard-as-nails, 16 bit-inspired sidescroller looked like a death metal album cover come to life, and the soundtrack sounded the part too, composed as it was by a former member of cult band Celtic Frost.

NO TRACE IS HITMAN MEETS HOTLINE MIAMI, OUT THIS YEAR

http://www.pcgamer.com/no-trace-is-hitman-meets-hotline-miami-out-this-year/

No Trace, the debut project from British development studio Square Mountain, is a top-down stealth/assassination game that draws inspiration from many places. At first glance, the Hitman series and Hotline Miami are obvious influences, but with a longer look you might get vibes of Volume and Bullfrog’s 1993 classic Syndicate too.

BIG ROBOT’S NEXT GAME IS THE SIGNAL FROM TÖLVA

http://www.pcgamer.com/big-robots-next-game-is-the-signal-from-tlva/

Big Robot—the team behind atmospheric survival-stealth endeavour Sir, You Are Being Hunted—has revealed its latest project: The Signal From Tölva.

Billed as a “single-player first-person exploration and combat game”, The Signal From Tölva is set among the ruins of an ancient civilisation—a setting that’s been crafted by hand, unlike the procedurally generated landscapes of its forerunner.

It's this time of the month: Steam Stats

When I checked yesterday, the July numbers weren't up yet. But they fixed the DX12-category and added the list of "all video cards". Gladly I wrote them down, today they took that list down again. So here are the "all GPU"-shares including June:

As you can see, they splitted up the R9-series in R9 200, R9 380 and R9 390... better late than never. They also added the GTX 960M.

Now to the July numbers. Here are the shares of the DX12-compatible GPUs. Both GTX 1080 and GTX 1070 are showing up with almost half a percent each:

The growth of Steam accounts sped up a bit according to SteamSpy estimates... now almost 179 million active users:

Based on all these data I estimate the number of Steam-PCs that can keep up with PS4 + XBO fidelity around 40 million units, so still in the ballpark of the PS4 hardware base. 16 million Steam-PCs should be "VR recommended" systems so far... this number should grow faster next month thanks to the RX 480, GTX 1060 and the slashed prices for the older GPUs (RX 390, 390X, Fury, GTX 970, GTX 980,...)

Windows 10 gained another 2% and is now on almost every second Steam-PC: 48.6% if we include the 32-bit version.

The DX-compatible top 10 looks very green, hopefully Polaris can bring some red back:

179 million active users is craycray. I remember the days when people were like, fuck steam and its drm during its early days! How the times have changed.

^Thanks for the stats. How odd that they've finally split the R9 family now that we have the new cards. That makes me wonder if they'll bother splitting the RX 400 series into the 3 models or not.

And Pascal had a good debut. I'm sure the 1060 will rock that chart by the end of the year.

The new, Pascal based, Titan X launched today. I would have liked to post reviews and benchmarks, but that's all we've got so far.

And we all saw that coming. Adam Bhatti has confirmed that the PC version of Pro Evolution Soccer 2017 will – once again – be a cross between the old-gen and the current-gen versions. This basically means that most – or at least some – of the features of the current-gen version will be present, however the visuals will not be similar to those found in the current-gen version.

HERE’S HOW YOUR CITY WOULD LOOK IN DEUS EX: MANKIND DIVIDED’S 2029

http://www.pcgamer.com/heres-how-your-city-would-look-in-deus-ex-mankind-divideds-2029/

Picture how your city might look in a world post-Aug Incident. Grim, right? Well, so long as you live in Barcelona, Berlin, Cologne, London, Moscow, Paris, Rio de Janeiro, Stockholm, Sydney, or seaside town Blackpool (featured in the image above) rest that simple organic brain, because the Deus Ex art team has done the imagining for you.

Eidos Montreal released a pile of new concept art for Deus Ex: Mankind Divided today, designed to showcase the appearance of "some of the major cities around the globe" in the game's unhappy near-future. The gallery includes shots of Barcelona, Berlin, Cologne, London, Paris, Rio, and several others, but it's the Moscow image which has caused controversy. Specifically, the presence in it of an "Augs Lives Matter" banner held by protesters.

OVERWATCH UPDATE ADDS LÚCIOBALL GAME MODE AND "SUMMER GAMES" GOODIES

http://www.pcgamer.com/overwatch-update-adds-lcioball-game-mode-and-summer-games-goodies/

Blizzard just released a surprise Summer Games 2016 update for Overwatch that adds a new game mode and a host of Olympic-themed treats. Lúcioball is a new 3-on-3 brawl reminiscent of Rocket League where everyone plays as Lúcio in a soccer-like match, attempting to “score goals, make saves, and lead your team to victory.” Not wanting to leave the other heroes out, new skins, highlight intros, victory poses, and more are available via special Summer Games 2016 loot boxes, which you can only pick up between August 2nd to the 23rd.

GTA ONLINE GETS A TRACK EDITOR FOR ITS CUNNING STUNTS MODE

http://www.pcgamer.com/gta-online-gets-a-track-editor-for-its-cunning-stunts-mode/

Long the domain of mods, stunt racing in GTA Online became easier and more official last month with the rollout of the Cunning Stunts update. This introduced racing circuits with loop-de-loops, boost pads and tubes, turning the sky above Los Santos into a labyrinthine (and very dangerous) racing playground.

NEW LAWBREAKERS VIDEOS FOCUS ON THE ROCKET-WIELDING TITAN

http://www.pcgamer.com/new-lawbreakers-videos-focus-on-the-rocket-wielding-titan/

Boss Key is holding the final alpha test for LawBreakers this weekend, and judging by the two videos the studio released today, it really wants you to try the Titan class. Represented by Bomchelle on the Law side and Cronos on the Breakers side, both characters wield a rocket launcher which can be niftily shot over your shoulder without moving the crosshair, as well as a close-range electrical weapon.

CHAOTIC KITCHEN SIMULATOR OVERCOOKED OUT NOW, SERVES UP LAUNCH TRAILER

http://www.pcgamer.com/chaotic-kitchen-simulator-overcooked-out-now-serves-up-launch-trailer/

Perhaps the biggest challenge of Ghost Town Games and Team 17’s Overcooked is reaching the end of any given level without having set the kitchen on fire. I speak from experience, having watched pretty much every in-game kitchenscape I’ve graced go up in flames—a problem which others appear to have struggled with too. The best thing about it is this is part of the fun.

WATERCOLOUR PUZZLER HUE GETS AUGUST LAUNCH DATE

Hue is the debut project from Fiddlesticks—a lovely-looking intuitive puzzle platformer that featured at this year’s PC Gamer Weekender. Fret not if you missed it there, as it’s likely to show its face a little more between now and its newly confirmed release date of August 23.
