THE WITCHER 3: BLOOD AND WINE LAUNCH TRAILER IS PACKED WITH UNSPEAKABLE EVIL

http://www.pcgamer.com/the-witcher-3-blood-and-wine-launch-trailer-is-packed-with-unspeakable-evil/

I had to double check the date, but yes, here we have the launch trailer for The Witcher 3's massive Blood and Wine expansion. That is, the launch trailer for an expansion that's still a week away. Does that make sense? No. Is the trailer packed with unmentionably horrible monsters? You're darn right it is.

VAMPYR'S LEAD CHARACTER WON'T BE ABLE TO IGNORE HIS MONSTROUS WAYS

http://www.pcgamer.com/vampyrs-lead-character-wont-be-able-to-ignore-his-monstrous-ways/

Dontnod's action-RPG Vampyr, about a doctor-turned-vampire in the pandemic-riddled London of 1918, is all about choice. Not whether to be a good guy or a bad guy, though, because being bad is pretty much inevitable. The studio alluded to this last year when it said, “You cannot escape that you are a vampire,” but the announcement accompanying the three new screens released today is a little more direct about it.

PARADOX PULLS STELLARIS MOD THAT MAKES ALL HUMANS "EUROPEAN" [UPDATED]

http://www.pcgamer.com/paradox-pulls-stellaris-mod-that-makes-all-humans-european/

Game mods are great, but sometimes they're used to do not-so-great things. The “European Phenotype and Names Only” mod for Stellaris is one such example: As the title implies, it changes the game so that all humans are European—which is to say, “white”—and have only European names. If that strikes you as a little sketchy, well, you're probably not wrong—and Paradox agrees.

DUAL UNIVERSE IS A "BOUNDLESS MMO" WITH ECHOES OF EVE ONLINE

http://www.pcgamer.com/dual-universe-is-a-boundless-mmo-with-echoes-of-eve-online/

A new sandbox sci-fi MMO called Dual Universe promises “a vast realistic universe made of millions of planets, [focusing] on emergent collective gameplay based around exploration, mining, crafting, trade, politics and warfare," all of it within a single, shared online realm. Based on that alone, you can probably guess that the members of developer Novaquark, which includes former employees of Ubisoft, Sony, Apple, and Aldebaran Robotics, are big fans of EVE Online.

UNREAL TOURNAMENT GETS NEW MAP UNDERLAND

http://www.pcgamer.com/unreal-tournament-gets-new-map-underland/

Epic has reminded us of the existence of shooters that aren't Overwatch by releasing a new map for Unreal Tournament.

Underland is the fourth arena in UT's growing roster. I'm getting a Dark Souls vibes from the ruined keep secreted in an imposing, craggy cove. Then the plasma starts flying and I realise that's ridiculous. If you are curious how a map like this comes together, Epic has an excellent video series that deconstructs the making of Titan Pass.

PLAY DAYZ AS IT WAS MEANT TO BE PLAYED ON THE DAYZRP SERVER

http://www.pcgamer.com/play-dayz-as-it-was-meant-to-be-played-on-the-dayzrp-server/

The zombie-infested sandbox of DayZ can produce astonishing stories of survival against the odds. You must scavenge for food, water and weapons in vast, open terrain, rich with forests, towns and old bunkers. However, in spite of the weather and the infected shamblers, the greatest threat to your survival is often other players, who'd sooner shoot you at 20 metres and take your stuff than actually try to work with you to survive the harsh wilderness.

Excellent news on CPUs and I wouldn't worry about Polaris, we already knew Vega was going to be the high-end GPU, while in the mid-range a die-shrink and so a significant reduction of production costs and power consumption was probably more important, not to mention that there is a not stellar, but still very nice performance boost too compared to current Radeons, with only the NVidia GTX 1080 beating Polaris, but at cost of a much higher power consumption, and most probably higher retail price and production costs too, making NVidia less attractive for the average user, and when Vega will be launched, for the power users too.
All these news, and Polaris 10 and 11 segments bode very well for the next gens of APUs too, most probably Zen-Polaris APUs will be more than enough for basic gaming PCs, and adding a discrete GPU with crossfire, on well designed mobos, obviously, they could become very fine high-end ones too.

As you may already know, a lot – if not all – of games that were powered by Unity Engine 4 were plagued by performance issues, even on the PC. That something that really troubled us and according to Unity Technologies’ Field Engineer, Mathieu Muller, this was mainly because Unity Engine 4 was a single-threaded engine.

PREY 2 DOMAIN UPDATED, E3 ANNOUNCEMENT RUMORED

http://www.dsogaming.com/videotrailer-news/deus-ex-mankind-divided-gets-new-live-action-trailer/

I always thought the idea behind Prey 2 was quite clever. It's a sequel with only the most wisp-like connection to the original, which otherwise goes entirely ignored so the developers could make a game about the galaxy's one and only human bounty hunter instead. Or at least, it was, until Bethesda finally pulled the plug in 2014, after years of troubled development.

Despite the deadpan sidekick's best efforts, however, it's not great at explaining what Loot Rascals is. I did the legwork, and behind the fantastically surreal exterior (designed by an ex-Hohokum dev—who'd have thought?) is an intriguing new take on asynchronous multiplayer.

AMD Polaris Tech Day: NDA ends on June 29th

http://videocardz.com/60373/amd-polaris-tech-day-nda-ends-on-june-29th

AMD Polaris Tech Day is about to start soon. Editors who are already in Macau are enjoying their trip to ‘Las Vegas of Asia’. Thanks to Daeguen Lee’s Liveblog we get to see some interesting stuff.

Above you can see the NDA paper that reviewers are told to sign as they arrive. The date expires on 29th June, which many of you will find strange. However this is exactly what we were expecting. Official ‘hard launch’ of Polaris GPUs was planned for early July. This date indicated that on Wendensday June 29th we might be seeing first reviews of Polaris graphics cards. At worst this would mean AMD will allow reviewers to release more information about Polaris architecture, however since this is almost a month after June 1st event, then actual GPU reviews are more likely to be the case.

Surely smaller process and higher yield will help pricing it competitively, while lower power requirement, besides requiring less bulky and less expensive cooling and so helping keeping costs low too, should also help saving a little on total system price, requiring a less powerful and expensive PSU, and also on the user's electricity bill. The typical AMD user will find all this attractive, and if peformances will be greater than the 1070, adding all the other benefits could persuade also "neutral" users, leaving only die-hard NVidia fans preferring the 1070.
About real world performances, let's just hope they won't fall too far behind.

About real world performances, let's just hope they won't fall too far behind.

Let's go in parts:

"Surely smaller process and higher yield will help pricing it competitively"

28nm yields are still far better than 14 or 16nm yields, and the manufacturing cost of the new process is higher too. Those two reasons won't help making Polaris cheap, but AMD's pursuit of marketshare will.

"lower power requirement, besides requiring less bulky and less expensive cooling"

The first part of that part is true, but the second part isn't. While power consumption is will be lower, the problem is that the chip itself is smaller than the 28nm parts, and that makes heat a bigger problem. Also, the rumors we have suggest that Polaris 10 will be around 230mm2 and a max TDP of 175W, although the actual product will use less than that (around 150W). If those numbers are true, that would make Polaris 10 similar to the Pitcairn chip in the 7870.

"Surely smaller process and higher yield will help pricing it competitively, while lower power requirement, besides requiring less bulky and less expensive cooling and so helping keeping costs low too, should also help saving a little on total system price, requiring a less powerful and expensive PSU, and also on the user's electricity bill. The typical AMD user will find all this attractive"

The typical AMD user bought the 7970, 290/X and 390/X cards. If the performance is there, people will buy it despite how much power they use. And that's true for both AMD and Nvidia.

"if peformances will be greater than the 1070, adding all the other benefits could persuade also "neutral" users, leaving only die-hard NVidia fans preferring the 1070."

I really, really doubt Polaris 10 will be more powerful than the 1070. The latest "leaked" benchmarks pointed that the big Polaris 10 wouldn't beat the Fury X, while the GTX 1070 would be a bit faster than not only the 980Ti, but the Titan X too. And Nvidia has confirmed that the GTX 1070 has a TDP of 150W.

"About real world performances, let's just hope they won't fall too far behind."

That's what we all want to see, and the sooner we get them, the better.
