I had to double check the date, but yes, here we have the launch trailer for The Witcher 3's massive Blood and Wine expansion. That is, the launch trailer for an expansion that's still a week away. Does that make sense? No. Is the trailer packed with unmentionably horrible monsters? You're darn right it is.

Dontnod's action-RPG Vampyr, about a doctor-turned-vampire in the pandemic-riddled London of 1918, is all about choice. Not whether to be a good guy or a bad guy, though, because being bad is pretty much inevitable. The studio alluded to this last year when it said, “You cannot escape that you are a vampire,” but the announcement accompanying the three new screens released today is a little more direct about it.

Game mods are great, but sometimes they're used to do not-so-great things. The “European Phenotype and Names Only” mod for Stellaris is one such example: As the title implies, it changes the game so that all humans are European—which is to say, “white”—and have only European names. If that strikes you as a little sketchy, well, you're probably not wrong—and Paradox agrees.

 

DUAL UNIVERSE IS A "BOUNDLESS MMO" WITH ECHOES OF EVE ONLINE

A new sandbox sci-fi MMO called Dual Universe promises “a vast realistic universe made of millions of planets, [focusing] on emergent collective gameplay based around exploration, mining, crafting, trade, politics and warfare," all of it within a single, shared online realm. Based on that alone, you can probably guess that the members of developer Novaquark, which includes former employees of Ubisoft, Sony, Apple, and Aldebaran Robotics, are big fans of EVE Online.

 

UNREAL TOURNAMENT GETS NEW MAP UNDERLAND

Epic has reminded us of the existence of shooters that aren't Overwatch by releasing a new map for Unreal Tournament.

Underland is the fourth arena in UT's growing roster. I'm getting a Dark Souls vibes from the ruined keep secreted in an imposing, craggy cove. Then the plasma starts flying and I realise that's ridiculous. If you are curious how a map like this comes together, Epic has an excellent video series that deconstructs the making of Titan Pass.

The zombie-infested sandbox of DayZ can produce astonishing stories of survival against the odds. You must scavenge for food, water and weapons in vast, open terrain, rich with forests, towns and old bunkers. However, in spite of the weather and the infected shamblers, the greatest threat to your survival is often other players, who'd sooner shoot you at 20 metres and take your stuff than actually try to work with you to survive the harsh wilderness.
