Speaking of Windows 10 - fricken MS sent out another new push of the GWX/Windows 10 installer.

KB3150513 is the culprit. Hide that bish ;(!

I'm gonna get Windows 10 eventually - more than likely my new PC build will have it.

Keeping 7 on my current desktop and 8.1 on my laptop though.

Thanks for the warning! Won't MS ever stop trying this sh*t? Luckily I always set Win Update on automatic update list download and manual install, but I must be careful, as every now and then MS sneakily restores in the list Win 10 downgrade-related updates that had been hidden by the user, they duped me the first time and a couple of times afterwards as I hadn't read the update list carefully enough and I had to uninstall and hid them again, and two times I even had to reactivate Windows. Once I even had to restore some system files, as they messed up Win Update config so deeply that the automatic tools MS provides to fix it were able to fix only part of the problems, and some really important updates kept on failing. And the last time I uninstalled one of those shitty fake updates, I had to restart the PC twice before Windows acknowledged having uninstalled them. The most ridiculous time, OTOH was when one of them was listed twice, one amongst critical and one amongst optional updates.

PROJECT CARS GAME OF THE YEAR EDITION RELEASES TODAY

http://www.dsogaming.com/news/project-cars-game-year-edition-releases-today/

Bandai Namco and Slightly Mad Studios announced today the release of Project CARS Game Of The Year Edition on the PC. Project CARS is described as the most authentic, beautiful, intense, and technically-advanced racing game in the sim racing genre: featuring new technology such as built-in support for 12K and Virtual Reality.

>>And it has a launch trailer: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-toclBWinAQ

Great! This will go on top of my list when I'll do the major upgrade of my PC. Luckily, unlike RPGs, which I try to play following an order, most of the best recent sim racers can be played in any order without one making another one look disappointing if played after, and without a plot order to follow, like in RPGs of the same series.

Anyway, and let me copy-paste the recent news about the GTX 1080

The Geforce GTX 1080 Graphics Card Can Do Asynchronous Compute

http://wccftech.com/nvidia-gtx-1080-asynchronous-compute/#ixzz4858gdBA3

The Async Compute problem is probably one of the most controversial issues surrounding the older generation of Geforce graphics cards from Nvidia. Something very interesting, however, is present in the press release that they sent out to, well, the press. According to the official statement, the GTX 1080 is fully capable of performing Async Compute. If this turns out to be true, then this will give negate a major edge that Radeon graphics cards from AMD have enjoyed this past year.

If you read the press release, it is mentioned in the Five Marvels of Pascal

  • Superb Craftsmanship. Increases in bandwidth and power efficiency allow the GTX 1080 to run at clock speeds never before possible -- over 1700 MHz -- while consuming only 180 watts of power. New asynchronous compute advances improve efficiency and gaming performance. And new GPU Boost™ 3 technology supports advanced overclocking functionality.

NVIDIA GeForce GTX 1080 reviews out on May 17th

http://videocardz.com/59695/nvidia-geforce-gtx-1080-reviews-on-may-17th

Even though official ‘hard launch’ is set to May 27th, NVIDIA decided to let reviewers release their benchmarks sooner. Of course it is no secret that some reviewers already have their samples. Unfortunately not all information related to Pascal architecture was released at launch, so we are still waiting for confirmation about TMUs, ROPs and other GP104 specific data.

According to tweet that has since then been removed by the author, NVIDIA will lift NDA for reviews on May 17th:

FYI: Embargo for all the PASCAL info we’re getting today and @nvidia GTX 1080 reviews is May 17th

NVIDIA has been very generous during Editors day. Attendees received two cards for SLI reviews, so I’m confident there won’t be any problem finding reviews before official launch date.

There is something new, or at least a confirmation, about the Pascal cards: it turns out that the "Founders Edition" are nothing more than the reference cards.

Difference Between GTX 1080 'Founder's Edition,' Reference, & AIBs

http://www.gamersnexus.net/news-pc/2427-difference-between-gtx-1080-founders-edition-and-reference

This is, in our analysis of the situation, nVidia's way of avoiding competing with its own partners in the space. The Founder's Edition will cost $700. The MSRP is $600 – so vendors like MSI, EVGA, ASUS, et al. can enter market with cards cheaper than nVidia's own, throw their own coolers on them, and overclock them differently. The vendors will exercise similar control and design/engineering over their versions of the GTX 1000 series as with previous generations. Also as with previous generations, nVidia's version of the card (now "Founder's Edition") uses heavy materials that can run-up the cost. That metal shroud will run-up the BOM more than a plastic shroud from an AIB.

NVidia wanted to land at the center of the stack, providing room for vendors to undercut nVidia reference – err, “Founder's Edition” – prices, but also allowing room for higher-end cards >$700. Drawing parallels to the GTX 900 series, a higher-priced card might be something like EVGA's GTX 980 Ti Hybrid, which ran ~$750-$770 at first launch. This was a marked increase against the MSRP of $650, but offered features which helped carve its own price bracket.

I thought it was worth posting, just in case there was someone with doubts about it.

AMD planning to launch Polaris architecture end of May

http://videocardz.com/59753/amd-polaris-launch-end-of-may

According to Thai website Zolkorn, AMD is planning a major press conference later this month.

It is said that AMD is planning a big announcement of Polaris architecture between May 26th to 31st. The event would take place in ‘Las Vegas of Asia’, which is Macau. This event could take place shortly before Computex.

AMD has allegedly already sent invitation to media outlets, however many have been omitted. This event would probably begin with a briefing for the press, and end with a press conference similar to Capsaicin.

So there’s a good chance Radeon 400 series based on Polaris 10 and 11 would make its first appearance at Computex presented by both AMD and its partners.

MAFIA 3'S DRIVING MODEL INSPIRED BY BULLITT

http://www.pcgamer.com/mafia-3s-driving-model-inspired-by-bullitt/

In the 1960s, car chases would break out every time you popped out to the grocers, or to pick the kids up from school, so I'm glad Mafia 3 isn't overlooking that aspect of '60s life in its quest for verisimilitude. Following that barnstorming story trailer comes a less barnstormy video showing off how driving works in Mafia 3. It aims to be authentic, as expected, but not so authentic that you won't be able to engage in the odd Hollywood-style car chase now and again. Basically, get behind the wheel and you're Steve McQueen out of Bullitt. Man, how great is Bullitt?

THE OVERWATCH OPEN BETA "IS WHAT WILL GO LIVE AT LAUNCH"

http://www.pcgamer.com/the-overwatch-open-beta-is-what-will-go-live-at-launch/

The Overwatch open beta is now in full swing, which means there's nothing stopping you from playing it if you want. And if you do, despite it technically being a beta test, Game Director Jeff Kaplan says the version people are playing now, minus some bug fixes, “is what will go live at launch.”

THE OVERWATCH OPEN BETA HAS BEEN EXTENDED BY A DAY

http://www.pcgamer.com/the-overwatch-open-beta-has-been-extended-by-a-day/

Millions of players were finally permitted access to Overwatch's beta at the weekend, after months of that privilege being granted to a select few. When I write "millions" I mean it, too, because that's the tremendously vague figure Blizzard offered in an announcement today. It's no surprise, really.

EPIC MAY BE FINISHED WITH BIG-BUDGET, SINGLE-PLAYER GAMES

http://www.pcgamer.com/epic-may-be-finished-with-big-budget-single-player-games/

Epic Games is probably best-known for creating the sweeping, (relatively) story-driven blockbuster Gears of War. But those big-budget days may be over: CEO Tim Sweeney told Polygon that the studio's future more likely lies with games like Paragon and Fortnite—which is to say, free-to-play, multiplayer fare.

>>If that's the case, I'm glad they sold the Gears IP to MSoft.

SPACE PIRATES AND ZOMBIES 2 HITS EARLY ACCESS SOON

http://www.pcgamer.com/space-pirates-and-zombies-2-hits-early-access-soon/

Richard Cobbett thought the original Space Pirates and Zombies was "the germ of a cool game", so perhaps that germ has, er, spread for its upcoming sequel? Space Pirates and Zombies 2 switches to Unity, and embraces 3D, and it's just been revealed that it's coming to Steam Early Access this month. How 'this month', exactly? May 19.

NEW RAINBOW SIX SIEGE OPERATION DUST LINE DETAILS EMERGE

http://www.pcgamer.com/new-rainbow-six-siege-operation-dust-line-details-emerge/

Rainbow Six Siege is getting its second major update this week in the form of Operation Dust Line. A teaser trailer confirmed as much last week, but now we know a little bit more about the new map and operators thanks to a Ubisoft Twitch stream that took place at the weekend. The DLC will coincide with a major balancing patch as well, which will usher in some dramatic changes to classic characters.

BATTLEFIELD 1'S LAUNCH-DAY PERFORMANCE 'A FOCUS' FOR DICE

http://www.pcgamer.com/battlefield-5s-launch-day-performance-a-focus-for-dice/

DICE has assured us that a smooth launch for Battlefield 1 is a priority. We're all in a tizzy about the fantastical trip through World War 1, but all the dirigibles and Stielhandgranates won't save it if it performs as poorly as Battlefield 4 did.

It doesn't surprise me, sadly. Why blame the shitty game when you can just blame the platform?

Yes, I agree that if the thread doesn't contribute to anything but create more hate, mods should lock it.
