Metroid Prime Unofficial Native PC Port Available for Download
https://www.dsogaming.com/news/metroid-prime-unofficial-native-pc-port-available-for-download/
And here comes another one. Earlier today, we informed you about the unofficial PC ports of P.T. and Virtua Fighter Arcade. But you know what? We have another cool PC port of another amazing console-exclusive title. So, here is the unofficial PC port of Metroid Prime, a game that came exclusively on the Nintendo GameCube on November 18th, 2002.
This unofficial Metroid Prime PC port adds many modern features while keeping the original game intact. For instance, it supports 4:3, 16:9, and window-based widescreen modes. It also removes the frame rate cap. The game keeps its original 60Hz logic, but you can run it at higher frame rates. You can also change the FOV, use MSAA, and adjust anisotropic filtering.
PC controls are another big upgrade. You can use a mouse and keyboard or a gamepad. This is a huge deal. I’ve always wanted to play Metroid Prime with a mouse and keyboard. And now, thanks to this unofficial PC port, this is possible. Controls can also be fully remapped, with extra keys for each action. Not only that, but there are controller presets, deadzone settings, mouse sensitivity, aim inversion, crosshair size, and gyro aim.
The port adds save states, skippable cutscenes, a speedrun timer, and LiveSplit support. It also has a tracker that can show items, scans, rooms, and the full map.
And that’s not all. You can use mods, custom texture packs, and HD textures. There are many optional gameplay tweaks as well. These include Fast Morph, Spring Ball, Toggle Lock-On, and Sticky Charge.
Finally, the port supports randomizers and Archipelago. You can also transfer GameCube memory card saves through GCI files or raw card images.
All in all, this looks like the best way to play Metroid Prime on PC. The project is still in beta, so you may run into some bugs. Still, the port is already in very good shape. Plus, things will get better with each new version of it.
You can go ahead and download it from here (Github). As with all PC recompilations, it does not have any in-game assets. To play it, you’ll have to provide your own ROM file.
>> Shame I don’t have the ROM, because I liked it very much on both Gamecube and Wii. Anyway, the article has an over 10 minutes video.

First Look at the PC Native Port of Super Mario Odyssey
https://www.dsogaming.com/videotrailer-news/first-look-at-the-pc-native-port-of-super-mario-odyssey/
Super Mario fans, get ready for a treat. A team of modders is working on an unofficial PC port of Super Mario Odyssey, the hit Nintendo Switch game. So, below, you can watch its first WIP gameplay video.
The video shows Super Mario Odyssey running on a PC. The team uses a Switch static recompiler to make this work. It turns the game’s code into native x86-64 code. It also converts the game’s NVN graphics calls to Vulkan.
To capture this gameplay video, Belmante used an NVIDIA RTX 3050 laptop. This laptop was able to push 58-59FPS in Cap Kingdom.
Now, as you will see, this is still a WIP PC port. There is no audio yet, and there are some graphical bugs. The team is also still working toward a locked 60 FPS with further optimizations.
This is one of the first Nintendo Switch games that will be ported to the PC. Other Switch games with PC ports in development include Super Mario Bros. Wonder, Super Mario 3D World, and LEGO City Undercover.
There is currently no ETA for when this unofficial PC port of Super Mario Odyssey will be released. Naturally, though, we’ll be sure to keep you posted.
>> There’s a close to six minutes video in the article.

Bloodborne PC Remaster Mod V1.07 Released
https://www.dsogaming.com/mods/bloodborne-pc-remaster-mod-v1-07-released/
Modder ‘fromsoftserve’ has just released a brand new version of his amazing PC remaster mod for Bloodborne. This is easily one of the best mods that PC gamers can use to improve the game’s graphics. So, let’s dive in.
So, let’s take things from the beginning. A few days ago, the modder released Version 1.06. This was a big update for the mod.
Patch 1.06 improved the look of materials in the Hunter’s Dream, Central Yharnam, Cathedral Ward, Hemwick, and Old Yharnam. It also added high-res reflectance maps and fixed numerous bugs.
In a matter of days, the modder then released Version 1.07. This update fixed some small issues in Old Yharnam. It also brought a major upgrade to daytime Hemwick.
You can go ahead and download the latest version of this PC remaster mod from here (Nexus Mods). At the end of the article, you can also find a video for it. This video highlights some of its key features.

The second part of the Friday gaming news:

Subnautica 2 fans can finally hunt and kill those pesky Nibbler Mangos—in Dave the Diver's crossover DLC
https://www.pcgamer.com/games/adventure/subnautica-2-fans-can-finally-hunt-and-kill-those-pesky-nibbler-mangos-in-dave-the-divers-crossover-dlc/
It took a while but there's finally an official way to hunt and kill some of Subnautica 2's most annoying sea creatures. The only catch is, you'll have to do it in Dave the Diver DLC—though as catches go, that's a pretty fun one.

A great indie studio is making a sequel to one of my favorite adventures 17 years later, for one simple reason: 'We're not getting any younger, and the world seems to be ending'
https://www.pcgamer.com/games/adventure/a-great-indie-studio-is-making-a-sequel-to-one-of-my-favorite-adventures-17-years-later-for-one-simple-reason-were-not-getting-any-younger-and-the-world-seems-to-be-ending/
It's been 17 years since the original Machinarium, a wordless tale of love in a crumbling city of robots. Amanita Design has put out some great games over that span—Botanicula, Chuchel, Creaks, Phonopolis—but hasn't breathed even a hint that more Machinarium might be on the way. So why now?
"We're not getting any younger, and the world seems to be ending, so if we were ever going to make Machinarium 2, now is the right time," Amanita CEO and designer Jakub Dvorský said—a bit dark, sure, but I can't find any factual fault in his reasoning. "We're also grateful to every player who waited patiently all these years. We couldn't have done it without them."

Blizzard refuses to let World of Warcraft: Forever's dungeons become the fastest way to grind XP: 'We need to hold firm on these balance adjustments'
https://www.pcgamer.com/games/world-of-warcraft/blizzard-refuses-to-let-world-of-warcraft-forevers-dungeons-become-the-fastest-way-to-grind-xp-we-need-to-hold-firm-on-these-balance-adjustments/
World of Warcraft: Forever players have a lot of intense feelings about the role dungeons play in the leveling experience. Some want dungeons to be an alternative way to level up, a reason to play a tank or healer before hitting max level. Others want dungeons to be on par with questing so they don't feel like they're wasting their time in the open world.
In a podcast released earlier today, Blizzard addressed this debate and announced some tweaks to how dungeon XP will work. Basically, the XP you get from killing monsters in dungeons is going up a little bit, but not to the level it was in the original MMO. The developers explained that this is because they want the world of Azeroth to be the "main character" and don't want everyone spending their entire leveling experience in caves.
>> And here’s an article about the origin of Forever, and how much it has changed since then (link).

That's strange, but I guess their rights are about to expire. At least they're heavily discounted.

Adobe Photoshop, Premiere and Illustrator now have AI-built open-source clones

https://videocardz.com/newz/adobe-photoshop-premiere-and-illustrator-now-have-ai-built-open-source-clones

"Software engineer Brandon Thomas, who runs ArtCraft, has released seven open-source applications designed to recreate Adobe’s popular software. These include

PhotoCraft (Photoshop)
VectorCraft (Illustrator)
FilmCraft (Premiere Pro)
LightCraft (Lightroom)
EffectCraft (After Effects)
DesignCraft (InDesign)
PrintCraft (Acrobat Pro)"

The walls these companies once had are starting to crack.

It was bound to happen sooner rather than later.

I've never had to use Photoshop nor any of their other programs but, from the many, many comments I've seen complaining about them and how frequently they crash, basically stating that they only use them because that's what they're used to, I guess that many people will have their eyes on this project and hope that it succeeds.

But of course, Adobe will likely sue him to death.

Why? It isn't illegal to create an analogue competing product to anything on the market.

That's the sh*ty part: it doesn't matter.

Adobe makes buckets of money from their software and they can and maybe will use some of that amount to sue that guy not because what he's doing is illefal, but with the intention of stopping him from continuing his work by making him too worried about that can happen and because he'll have to spend lots of money in legal fees from his own lawyers that he'll have to give up and move on.

That's the secret power of these big corporations, that they can win by making others go bankrupt while trying to defend themselves from baseless lawsuits.

I'll have to push back on that a bit. There are dozens of paid or free source image editors out there, many of them deeply integrating features from Adobe's portfolio, such as being compatible and/or using their filters and file formats.

It's just like there are multiple free alternatives for all of Microsoft's products, some of which are very blatant Excel or Word clones, despite 365 being a 10x larger revenue market than all of Adobe put together.

What is actually changing is that the human capital required to program complex features is dropping exponentially, so a clone or alternative that would always lag in features is going to reach, or at least approach, parity much sooner.
