SALES/PLAYER COUNTS & DEALS
The Witcher 3's remaster just brought it to a new all-time concurrent player count peak
https://www.pcgamer.com/games/the-witcher/the-witcher-3s-remaster-just-brought-it-to-a-new-all-time-concurrent-player-count-peak/
It's hard to believe it's been over a decade since The Witcher 3 first released, and even harder to believe they found a way to make Geralt's tub transformation even shinier. The seminal open world RPG's hotly anticipated remaster has finally arrived, and it's pulling people back into the Continent all these years later (now more than ever on Steam, according to SteamDB).
The new screaming high is a whopping 123,359, which it just reached an hour ago as I write this. It's settling down now, but still pretty impressive given that its peak in August was just over 30,000. The game might be getting on in years, but it's still one of the best in its genre.
>> It has peaked abit higher than that at close to 138k players.
Besides the Autumn Sale, that will last for another 40 hours, GOG also has the ARS Independent Festival, that will last until October 11th. There are games with up to 80% discounts, but right now they’re listed for the same 40 hours as the Autumn Sale: https://www.gog.com/es/2026_ars_independent

Capcom announces plans to transform its RE Engine into an 'AI-generation game engine'
https://www.pcgamer.com/gaming-industry/game-development/capcom-announces-plans-to-transform-its-re-engine-into-an-ai-generation-game-engine/
Capcom has been on an historic run over the last few years, delivering hit after hit during a period when many other publishers are struggling to keep their heads above water. This year alone, Capcom has released Resident Evil: Requiem, Pragmata, and Onimusha: Way of the Sword, all of which landed to both critical acclaim and commercial success.
So now is obviously the perfect time to wade into the not-at-all controversial topic of AI-powered game development.
Yesterday, Capcom held its own tech conference titled "Capcom Open Conference RE: 2026" during which programmer Satoshi Ishida gave a talk detailing the company's future plans for its proprietary RE: Engine—which powers all the publisher's modern games. During this talk, Ishida revealed Capcom's intentions to gradually transform RE Engine into an "AI-generation game engine."

Shader support also gets several fixes. These changes help games such as Little Nightmares, Little Nightmares III, Astro Bot, and Demon’s Souls. The update also improves shader speed and fixes issues with Vulkan and MoltenVK.
The update adds fixes for Gran Turismo 7 and adds new AvPlayer, Razor CPU, and network stubs. Astro Bot and Demon’s Souls also get performance improvements. GPU work includes faster shader translation, better stencil handling, and support for HDR output. The devs have also fixed Vulkan wave64 ballot masks.

You Can Now Play Goldeneye 007 on PC in Third-Person Mode
https://www.dsogaming.com/mods/you-can-now-play-goldeneye-007-on-pc-in-third-person-mode/
James Bond and Nintendo 64 fans, here is something special for you today. Joshua-1248 has released a new version of GoldenEye 007 Plus that allows you to play this classic Nintendo 64 game in third-person mode.
GoldenEye 007 Plus is based on the decompiled GoldenEye 007 source. It is still in development, but the third-person mode already offers a very different way to play the N64 classic.
You can adjust the third-person camera to fit your play style. You can also change the crosshair settings. The project includes special fixes to make weapons work better with the new view. Projectiles, beams, and tracers are lined up with the camera. The Moonraker Laser also gets special support for third-person play.
Manual aiming has also been improved. The latest version adds sight translucency, which helps you see through the aiming view. This makes it easier to use weapons while playing from behind Bond.
Joshua-1248 has also fixed several third-person bugs. Surface II had a crash during its cutscene when using third-person mode. That issue is now fixed in both solo play and two-, three-, and four-player co-op. The Dam ending has also been fixed. Its camera scene can now play as intended while third-person mode is on.
GoldenEye 007 Plus also adds other major changes. It supports up to four players in campaign co-op and adds more multiplayer options. It also includes faster loading, new menus, more settings, and work on a built-in map maker.
All in all, this is a really cool way to re-experience GoldenEye 007. Those interested can download it from this link (Github). Do note that it does not contain any in-game assets. So, to play it, you will have to provide your own ROM file. Below, you can also find a video of it. This video will give you a pretty good idea of what you can expect from it. So, be sure to watch it.
Crimson Desert Mod Adds a Full Four-Season System
https://www.dsogaming.com/mods/crimson-desert-mod-adds-a-full-four-season-system/
Modder ‘Khione95’ has released a new cool mod for Crimson Desert. Seasons of Pywel adds a full four-season system to the game. The seasons follow the game’s calendar and change while you play, allowing you to experience the world of Crimson Desert in a completely new way.
Going into more detail, Pywel now has Spring, Summer, Autumn, and Winter. Each season changes the look of the world. Spring brings bright green trees and grass. Summer keeps the game’s normal look. Autumn adds golden, orange, and brown colors to trees, bushes, grass, and terrain. Finally, Winter covers the world with snow, frost, and ice.
The mod also adds seasonal temperature changes. Summer is hotter, while Spring and Autumn are cooler. Winter is much colder and can bring freezing nights. The good news is that fires can still warm the player. The desert also stays warm, even during Winter.
Weather changes with the seasons, too. Winter can bring snow, while Autumn and Spring can bring more rain. Summer stays mostly dry. Rain and snow can last for several in-game hours. Clouds also build up as bad weather arrives. The weather follows the game’s clock, so sleeping and waiting can move the weather forward.
Winter also adds deep snow. Snow slowly builds up while it is snowing. Heavy snow can reach full depth faster than light snow. Deep snow spreads from colder areas to warmer parts of the world. It also makes the temperature drop even more. When snowfall stops, the snow stays for a while before it starts to melt.
Deep snow can be turned off in the Control Menu. Normal Winter snow, cold weather, and snowfall will still work when it is disabled.
The mod gives players many ways to control the seasons. The Control Menu can be opened with F5. Players can let the seasons follow the calendar or lock the game to one season. They can also choose how long each season lasts. Available lengths range from 3 to 90 in-game days, including 7, 14, 30, 45, 60, and 90 days.
The Control Menu also shows the current day, season, weather, weather duration, and snow depth. The menu key can be changed in the mod’s settings file.
There is also a testing menu for screenshots and videos. It lets players force clear weather, rain, or snow. It can also change the temperature, set snow depth, and move the calendar to the start of a new season. This makes it easy to create specific weather and seasonal scenes.
Version 1.0.2, which is the latest version, also fixes several issues. Snow depth is now saved based on the in-game day and time. Loading a save will restore the snow depth from that point. Moreover, loading a save no longer causes the game to treat the loading time as sleep. Deep snow also no longer creates extreme winds. Winter cold has been adjusted as well, so cold areas do not become deadly without reason.
You can go ahead and download the mod from this link (Nexus Mods).

The Simpsons Game Unofficial PC Port Released
https://www.dsogaming.com/news/the-simpsons-game-unofficial-pc-port-released/
The Simpsons Game is an action-comedy platformer that was never released on PC. Instead, it came out on a lot of consoles in 2007, including the Nintendo DS, Wii, Xbox 360, PlayStation 2, PlayStation 3, and PlayStation Portable. And now, almost two decades later, we have an unofficial PC version of it.
The Simpsons Game Recompiled is based on the Xbox 360 version. It works on Windows, Linux, and Steam Deck. The game code is rebuilt for x86-64, so it runs directly on the CPU instead of using CPU emulation. Windows supports both Direct3D 12 and Vulkan, while Linux uses Vulkan.
The port supports 60 FPS gameplay. However, menus, loading screens, and the title screen stay at 30 FPS. You can also change the render scale for sharper graphics. The port supports supersampling, anisotropic filtering, and FXAA. A 2x or 3x render scale can make the game’s cartoon-style outlines look much cleaner.
PC players can use a controller or keyboard and mouse. Every key can be changed, including mouse buttons, the wheel, and side buttons. Camera controls can also be bound to keys. KB&M support is such a cool feature to have at launch.
Version 0.0.6.2 brings full keyboard and mouse support. The mouse now works as soon as the game window is active. It stays inside the game and is released when you switch windows. Linux and Steam Deck also use raw mouse input for smoother camera control.
Every control can now be changed. You can bind keys, mouse buttons, the wheel, and side buttons. You can also set mouse speed and invert the Y-axis. F1 shows all controls in the game, while F4 opens the settings. The default layout now uses WASD, mouse aiming, Space to jump, and left and right mouse buttons for attacks. Camera movement can also be bound to keys.
The launcher also gets a new light and dark theme. Settings now save as soon as you change them. Render scale and sharpening options have also been cleaned up. Launcher artwork works again, and a new log file makes bug reports easier.
And that’s not all. On Windows, the game now uses a better timer setting. This should help reduce audio issues and improve frame pacing.
The renderer also gets major speed gains. Steam Deck performance at 2x resolution rises to about 59 FPS from 50 FPS. Shader files are now precompiled, which helps prevent stutter when new areas load. Video memory use is also lower, while several unused GPU tasks are skipped.
Those interested can download this unofficial PC version of The Simpsons Game from here (Github). As with all the other unofficial PC ports, it does not contain any in-game assets. So, to play it, you’ll have to provide your own Xbox 360 ISO.

30 Minutes of Gameplay From an Upcoming Native PC Version of P.T.
https://www.dsogaming.com/videotrailer-news/30-minutes-of-gameplay-from-an-upcoming-native-pc-version-of-p-t/
Now here is something cool for all our Silent Hill fans. YouTube’s ‘Lorean The Gamer’ is working on an unofficial PC native version of Konami’s canceled Silent Hills P.T. demo. And below, you can find a video showcasing 30 minutes of gameplay from it.
(...)
Right now, this unofficial PC version of P.T. is around 97% complete. It includes the first-boot screen, the opening, the full game, and the ending. It also includes the voice step, with speech recognition done fully offline.
The game keeps the original Lua scripts, traps, cutscenes, and Lisa’s animation rig. These systems are driven by the original game data.
The Fox Engine graphics are rebuilt from the original PS4 shaders. The new renderer supports shadows, deferred lighting, local reflections, depth of field, motion blur, bloom, color grading, film grain, lens flares, and the ending’s volumetric fog.
The sound system is also rebuilt from scratch. It supports the original Wwise sound banks, 3D sound, reverb, radio broadcasts, subtitles, and controller vibration.
What’s also cool here is that the PC version will run above 60 FPS instead of the original 30 FPS limit. It will support any screen resolution, mouse and keyboard, DualSense, Xbox controllers, and other gamepads. Not only that, but we’ll get support for AMD FSR 3.1 or NVIDIA DLSS.
There is currently no ETA for when this unofficial PC version of P.T. will come out. Naturally, though, I’ll be sure to keep you posted.

Time Crisis Arcade-Perfect PC Port Is Now Available for Download
https://www.dsogaming.com/news/time-crisis-arcade-perfect-pc-port-is-now-available-for-download/
And the time has finally come. Time Crisis was one of my favourite 3D light-gun rail arcade shooters. If memory serves well, it was one of the first games that had a cover mechanic with a pedal. And now, after three whole decades, we have an unofficial PC version of it.
This unofficial PC version is part of the “Namco System 22 games for PC” initiative. This project aims to bring to PC most, if not all, arcade games that used the Namco System 22 system.
Namco System 22 games for PC, also known as namco22-decompile, currently supports five games. These are Time Crisis, Rave Racer, Dirt Dash, Tokyo Wars, and Prop Cycle. These games run better than MAME. They do not require a Namco System 22 Arcade BIOS, and they offer some QoL improvements. For instance, they support widescreen aspect ratios, as well as resolutions up to 4K.
What’s great about this unofficial PC port of Time Crisis is that it has mouse support from the get-go. It also supports lightguns. As such, PC gamers can get an amazing gaming experience.
Now look, I know that MAME also supports mouse for pretty much all the arcade light-gun shooters. However, with this unofficial PC port, you can run the game at 4K. We also get support for widescreen PC monitors. As such, this is the definitive way to play Time Crisis in 2026.
You can go ahead and download namco22-decompile from this link. The project does not contain any in-game assets for any of the aforementioned games. As such, you’ll have to provide your own ROM files to play them.

The Witcher 3 Remastered Mod Adds 18 New Playable Quests
https://www.dsogaming.com/mods/the-witcher-3-remastered-mod-adds-18-new-playable-quests/
Modder ‘paulr0013’ has released a new mod for The Witcher 3 Remastered that adds 18 new playable quests to it. So, let’s take a closer look at it.
The Witcher 3 Remastered has many small activities to find and enjoy. These can give you rewards, special moments, and even unique dialogue. However, most of these activities are not tracked in the quest journal. They also do not give you clear goals or map markers. This can make them easy to miss.
Witcher 3 Quests Extended turns these activities into full quests. It adds new quests that are built around the original activities.
When you start an activity, a new quest will open in your journal. It will give you clear goals, map markers, and new lore. This makes it much easier to see what you need to do and where to go. The goal is to make these hidden activities easier to find and more fun to complete. It also helps the world feel more alive and makes these small moments feel like real quests.
Those interested can go ahead and download the mod from this link (Nexus Mods).

Peter Jackson’s King Kong Xbox 360 Version Gets an Unofficial Native PC Port
https://www.dsogaming.com/news/peter-jacksons-king-kong-xbox-360-version-gets-an-unofficial-native-pc-port/
When Peter Jackson’s King Kong came out on PC in 2005, it was based on the old-gen PS2 version. That really frustrated me back then, as the Xbox 360 version looked and felt way better than what we got. But now, PC gamers can enjoy that “next-gen” version.
Now, I know that we also got a digital Gamer’s Edition for Peter Jackson’s King Kong. That version aimed to bring some of the graphical features of the X360 version to PC. However, that version wasn’t a perfect Xbox 360 equivalent. It had its own visual compromises, including missing facial animations, different character lighting, and vegetation rendering issues.
So, this unofficial PC port brings the Xbox 360 version of Peter Jackson’s King Kong to PC with several useful features.
You can render the game at up to 8K (7680×4320). Several presets are available, from Supersample to Ultra Performance, so you can pick the best setting for your PC.
The game runs at 30 FPS by default, just like the Xbox 360 version. However, you can also raise the frame rate to 240 FPS or remove the limit for smoother play.
The port also adds Xbox 360-style achievement pop-ups. You will see a pop-up and hear a sound when you unlock one of the game’s nine achievements. You can choose the sound in the launcher.
You can also change the controls to fit your needs. Options include camera inversion, camera speed, controller deadzone, button remapping, and vibration strength. The port also supports keyboard and mouse. Since this is an FPS, the inclusion of proper KB&M is a must-have feature.
What’s also crucial to note is that the entire game is now playable. On Xenia, it gets stuck right at the start of the first level and can’t be played. So, by default, this is the best way to play the Xbox 360 version.
You can go ahead and download the PC port from this link (Github). As with most PC recompilations, it does not include any in-game assets. So, to run it, you’ll have to provide your own X360 ISO.

For once, I'm happy to see expensive corporate lawyers forcing a fan project offline
https://www.pcgamer.com/games/fallout/for-once-im-happy-to-see-expensive-corporate-lawyers-forcing-a-fan-project-offline/
I don't typically have much love for billion-dollar corporations dropping the 'meet our legal department' hammer on no-budget modders who are just trying to exercise their creative muscles, but in this one instance I'm willing to let it slide: Bethesda has issued a cease-and-desist order to an "AI creator" who made a Fallout game set in New York City that runs in browsers.
That's actually overstating it: As Chris First explained in his X feed (via RPS), he "directed Claude and a studio of AI agents" to make the game for him. Nor was there any new creative thought injected into the process, First continued, saying he asked for a game that was "not inspired by" Fallout, but that was "exactly like Fallout."
This is the result.
***A tweet goes here***
I know that being playable in a browser is a limiting factor, but this is really just something I'd rather not play at all. It stands in such sharp contrast to mods like Fallout: London or Skyblivion, efforts that reflect genuine passion, commitment, and creativity—and yes, those mods are massive undertakings that require years of effort from hundreds of volunteers, but they also don't suck and I feel like maybe there's a lesson to be learned there.
Anyway, whether I want to play it or not is now a moot point, because yesterday First said he received a message from ZeniMax Media telling him to knock it off—specifically, that the domain name he registered for the project, fallout.nyc, infringes on the studio's IP rights.
I don't know if First was expecting sympathy for his plight, but he doesn't seem to be getting much of it. Some responses criticize him for calling the project "Fallout," which is just about daring Bethesda to do something, but there's also plenty of heat over the use of AI to make the thing. A few optimists suggest First would be fine if he just changed the name, but he doesn't seem inclined to pursue that course.
>> I’d call that sh*t an abomination, but I don’t want to be too harsh on abominations.
One of the most popular Total War: Warhammer 3 mods was 'deliberately corrupted' by its creator to sabotage AI-made copies
https://www.pcgamer.com/games/strategy/one-of-the-most-popular-total-war-warhammer-3-mods-was-deliberately-corrupted-by-its-creator-to-sabotage-ai-made-copies/
Total War: Warhammer 3's Lords of the End Times expansion is huge, which is great for us but not so great for all the modders who need to update their work to be compatible with it. SFO Grimhammer 3 (Steam Workshop), a popular total overhaul mod, isn't currently compatible with Total War: Warhammer 3 version 9.0, but its creators are working hard to get it there.
It must be galling then to see someone vibe-coding your mod to be compatible with the update, then reuploading it as their own—just another of the AI-coded submods of your work plastered across the Steam Workshop, usually with some ugly AI-generated artwork as the cherry on top.
"Due to the growing number of unauthorized reuploads of SFO: Grimhammer III," Venris, the mod's creator, posted on Patreon, "and more importantly, the use of AI in the process, I have deliberately corrupted the mod to prevent it from functioning with such unauthorized uploads. If this situation continues to escalate, I will make SFO: Grimhammer III private.
Yet another free fan level pack for Quake has arrived, and this one's all about a feature rarely seen in id Software's classic shooter
https://www.pcgamer.com/games/fps/yet-another-free-fan-level-pack-for-quake-has-arrived-and-this-ones-all-about-a-feature-rarely-seen-in-id-softwares-classic-shooter/
2026 has been a truly astonishing year for Quake mapping, with both fans and professional game developers delivering some incredible death arenas for id Software's 1996 FPS. We've had the enormous Quake Brutalist Jam 3, numerous map packs celebrating Quake's 30 anniversary, and even a new official campaign called Dawn of the Machine.
You'd think the Quake community would be out of ideas by this point, but if anything, the Quake community is only growing bolder. On Friday, the community released one of its most ambitious map packs yet—a level design extravaganza all about rooftops.
Quake Rooftops Jam adds 19 custom maps to id's shooter, all riffing on the theme of the part of your house that stops the rain falling in. While rooftops might not seem like the most exciting subject for a mapping jam, it is fascinating in the context of Quake. As a corridor shooter, rooftops are rarely glimpsed in Quake. Skittering across a virtual skyline is more the domain of games like Thief: The Dark Project and its spiritual successor Dishonored.
