Destiny 2's final update crushes the Steam concurrents peak hit by last year's Edge of Fate expansion
https://www.pcgamer.com/games/fps/destiny-2s-final-update-crushes-the-steam-concurrents-peak-hit-by-last-years-edge-of-fate-expansion/
It's the day of Destiny 2's final live service update, and players have swarmed into the shooter to celebrate the game and make their demands for Destiny 3 known.
With a peak of over 164,000 Steam concurrents so far today (via SteamDB), Destiny 2 is more active right now than it has been since Episode: Echoes launched in June 2024.
The biggest peak between then and now came with the launch of the Edge of Fate expansion in July 2025, which reached 108,000 Steam concurrents. That number quickly dissipated, and in April of this year, the shooter didn't break 13,000.

The beta, which includes the game's prologue and "an early section" of the open world, is just a "glimpse" of Mortal Shell 2, said the studio.

MOTHER: Encore Is a Free, Unofficial Fan Reimagining of MOTHER 1 for PC – Available Now for Download
https://www.dsogaming.com/news/mother-encore-is-a-free-unofficial-fan-reimagining-of-mother-1-for-pc-available-now-for-download/
MOTHER 1 and Earthbound fans, here is something for you. Fans have released a remake/re-imagining of the first MOTHER 1 game for PC, which originally came out on the NES. So, let’s dive in.
This fan remake offers a uniquely different experience from the original and should not be seen as a replacement for it. In other words, if you are playing MOTHER: Encore, you are not playing MOTHER 1.
Made entirely from the ground up using the Godot Engine, MOTHER: Encore aims to adapt the original game into a completely fresh and new experience for modern audiences.
Currently, the game contains 2 Acts, and is planning on releasing 8 Acts in total. Act 2 contains everything from Act 1 AND Act 2. Each Act will be a simple content update that adds new areas to the game so you can enjoy the entire game as a seamless experience once it’s finished.
MOTHER: Encore features a new battle system, new graphics, and a new story. It also comes with new mechanics, new overworld and dungeons, and a new soundtrack.
This is a must-have free game for all MOTHER/Earthbound fans. So, if you are one of them, you should not sleep on it. You can download it from this link.

Crysis Remastered Improvement Project 1.0.1 Released & Detailed
https://www.dsogaming.com/mods/crysis-remastered-improvement-project-1-0-1-released-detailed/
Team MTL5 has released Version 1.0.1 for the Crysis Remastered Improvement Project. This mod brings a number of tweaks and changes to this beloved FPS. So, let’s take a closer look at it.
For those who did not know, Crysis Remastered Improvement Project is a mod that aims to continue fixing bugs and making improvements to the remaster now that official support has ended. It adds numerous bug fixes and visual improvements. It also packs sound improvements, restores content that was cut from the remaster, and more.
The biggest feature of Version 1.0.1 is its improved audio. According to the modding team, they rebuilt the ambient audio system to work around problems in the remaster. This new system changes how sound behaves in different areas and allows audio to fade in more naturally.
The update took several months to complete because of the amount of work involved. The team also improved the audio inside buildings. While Crysis Remastered still does not have advanced directional audio, sounds from outside can now fade in and out based on how close you are to doors and windows. This makes the audio feel more natural and immersive.
Mounted weapons were a major problem for the AI in Crysis Remastered. In some cases, enemies would get stuck trying to use them and would repeatedly move up and down without mounting the weapon. To fix this, the team added a new system. If the AI fails to mount a weapon, it will now move to a different position and try something else.
The team also improved how the AI reacts when players attack from behind. Before, enemies often ignored players who moved around them. Now, AI soldiers will back away from mounted weapons if a player gets too close or attacks from behind. This helps them behave in a more natural way.
There are also some improvements to AI behavior around vegetation. While bigger updates are planned for the future, enemies can now use blind fire if they think a player is hiding in nearby bushes or grass. This will make encounters feel more believable and dynamic.
And that’s not all. Version 1.0.1 brings a few visual improvements. For instance, we now have better particles effects. Wooden fences now spray chips, boxes collapse in a puff of smoke, and more. This will make combat feel a lot less sterile.
The team also created a script to find objects that were removed from the original game and never restored in the remaster. As a result, hundreds of small props have been added back. These include books, bottles, newspapers, brooms, bins, screwdrivers, and even movable objects such as car doors. These changes may seem small, but they improve both the game’s visuals and its physics interactions. Because of this, Crysis Remastered now looks and feels closer to the original game.
Before wrapping up, it’s worth noting that the modding team will next focus on Crysis 2 Remastered. I’m very interested to see what they can do with it. From what I remember, that remaster had a number of issues, including some serious bugs that could block player progress. The good news is that the team is not finished with Crysis Remastered yet. More updates are still planned, so there is even more work to look forward to.

The WAR Project Is a Massive Cut Content Recreation Fan Expansion for The Witcher 3
https://www.dsogaming.com/mods/the-war-project-is-a-massive-cut-content-recreation-fan-expansion-for-the-witcher-3/
The WAR Project Team has released the first version of the WAR Project Expansion Mod for The Witcher 3: Next-Gen. This is a massive cut content recreation project aimed at realising the vision for a long-forgotten questline, commonly known as the Plague Questline. So, if you are a TW3 fan, you should definitely check it out.
For those who did not know, in late 2014, CDPR made the decision to cut the Plague questline. Reasons as to why this decision was made often referred to the poor state of the questline at the time, which couldn’t be resolved in time for release. That being said, some remnants of this questline made it into the release version of The Witcher 3 in re-written/altered state.
The good news is that in 2024, CDPR released the REDKit tool for The Witcher 3. This allowed the team to datamine the game’s string database, letting them see the entire written script and allowing them to more accurately understand the events of the quests. And this led us to this fan expansion.
This first version of the mod is basically a demo containing the first few quests from the questline. The final version, scheduled to be available sometime in 2027, will rival a full expansion. According to the team, it will offer over 10 hours of gameplay.
Do note that due to how this questline fits within the world of Velen/Novigrad, which received changes and new content post-release, several quests and locations have been modified. The modding team has listed all the quest changes, which you can find below.
As said, the final version of this fan expansion will come out sometime in 2027. Until then, you can go ahead and try its demo, which you can download from here.

PCGamer posted so many articles during the weekend that they've run out of gas. Here's the reasonable second, and final, part of the gaming news:

Nobody can tell if Overwatch's 52nd hero is supposed to be a robot or a human, but we won't have to wait long to find out

(...)
The trailer for Overwatch 52nd hero, Shion, doesn't actually tell us much about her that we didn't already vaguely know from some of the hints in the past few months. She's one of the leaders of the Hashimoto clan—Overwatch's near-future version of the yakuza—and dual wields pistols.
People have already been debating if she's a robot (an Omnic in Overwatch parlance) or a human based on the early info, and the trailer refuses to give a clear answer. At first, it looks like Shion wears a demon mask like many of the other Hashimoto members, but when she starts talking through speakers in her neck it almost seems like it's not a mask at all and that she is indeed a robot.

Well, that's a bummer for me. Despite my looks, I'm a 300 years old man that doesn't trust a lot of modern technology, more so given how many leaks, hacks and woopsies there's been, and that's why I use the Steam wallet cards to refill my funds.

It's also the reason I don't buy from GOG or other stores, because they don't have them.

Well, I guess this is the sign to finally get a pre-paid credit card.

My impression is that if you don't save your payment details (credit card number etc.), the risk is much smaller - not that it's that great to start with, but not saving the details ought to leave much less room for stealing them. I've never saved my payment details, at least when that's been a feasible option (usually it is), and so far so good, I guess: 10+ years ago my bank called to inform me that something was off - no damage done, but I had to get a new (at the time debit) card, but other than that, absolutely no issues, and I'm kind of betting that it wasn't an online service that caused the issues.

Anyway, I'm not particularly trying to convince you - just wanting to offer this particular point of view. Feel free to do whatever you feel suits you best.

Grand Theft Auto 4 RTX Remix Update 1.3.1 Released & Detailed
https://www.dsogaming.com/mods/grand-theft-auto-4-rtx-remix-update-1-3-1-released-detailed/
Modder ‘xoxor4d’ has released Update 1.3.1 for his amazing RTX Remix Path Tracing Mod for Grand Theft Auto 4. This mod will let you play this classic GTA game with real-time Path Tracing. So, let’s see what its latest update brings to the table.
Update 1.3.1 brings several improvements and fixes. One of the biggest changes is the switch to DLSS Ray Reconstruction Model D. This should reduce noise in reflections and provide a cleaner image. The update also makes small adjustments to the new tonemapper settings introduced in Version 1.3.0. As a result, nighttime scenes now appear slightly brighter. In addition, Version 1.3.1 fixes an issue with vehicle liveries. In the previous update, incorrect vertex color settings could cause liveries to appear tinted. This problem has now been resolved.
It’s also worth noting that the modder has released a new experimental version. This version adds to a physical atmosphere, volumetric clouds, a new weather system, and new tonemappers. However, right now, this branch is really buggy.
For example, alpha-tested objects such as chain-link fences can cause visual flickering and instability. Some surface effects, including wetness, emissive lighting, and dirt, may also not update correctly because of the new Preserve Path feature. The mod noted that their DXVK-Remix modifications have not yet been fully updated to work with this feature. In addition, rain particles are currently not visible.
This version may give us a glimpse at what the RTX Remix Mod may achieve in the future. Right now, though, you should avoid it if you simply want to play the game. There is a reason it’s called “Experimental”.

While you're waiting for Valheim 1.0, why not try this map that transforms it into a massive RPG?
https://www.pcgamer.com/games/survival-crafting/while-youre-waiting-for-valheim-1-0-why-not-try-this-map-that-transforms-it-into-a-massive-rpg/
Stepping into a new world in Valheim is an exhilarating feeling: a massive realm surrounds you, wild and untamed in all directions, just waiting for you to grab your hammer and start shaping it.
But—and hear me out on this—what if the world was already shaped, just for you? What if a couple of modders had spent years carving out an adventure filled with quests and characters and hand-crafted locations, and all you had to do was dive in and start playing?
That's the idea behind Adventure Map for Valheim, a huge RPG-like world created by Ninebyte and Dhakhar over the past couple of years. Step into that world and you'll find yourself in a small town with an inn, an arena, and a shop. Speak to the locals (well, read what the locals have to say by clicking the exclamation points hovering next to them) and receive advice and helpful items. Meet a friendly skeleton guide named Bjorn and he'll point you down the road toward adventure. (The road also has a sign with the word "Adventure" on it, with an arrow, so you can't miss it.)
It's Valheim, but it's also something different, more along the lines of a traditional RPG. I've played for a few hours, and it's definitely an adjustment. This is a Valheim where you don't build a base or even do much in the way of crafting: that's all taken care of for you already. It's odd to set foot in a world that's already been manicured for you, but the more time I spent in Adventure Map, the more I enjoyed it.
There are quests and objectives, some big and some small. One early location contained a keep that had been taken over by greylings, and it took me quite a while to clear them out: instead of just charging at me like they do in vanilla Valheim, many had taken up defensive positions in the rafters and on rooftops, pelting me with stones until I could figure out how to reach them.

The second part of the gaming news:

Xbox 'console exclusives' are strictly about console releases, Xbox exec affirms: Games will 'still show up on all the normal places where we sell the PC version'
https://www.pcgamer.com/games/xbox-console-exclusives-are-strictly-about-console-releases-xbox-exec-affirms-games-will-still-show-up-on-all-the-normal-places-where-we-sell-the-pc-version/
There was a spot of confusion when Xbox CEO Asha Sharma declared during the recent Xbox Games Showcase that Gears of War: E-Day is an "Xbox console exclusive." What, we wondered, does that mean for us when it's said by Xbox's new management? In a new interview with GameInformer, Xbox chief content officer Matt Booty laid it out: The strategy is all about hosing PlayStation.
>> We kind of figured that out by ourselves, but it’s nice to have some confirmation.

WoW Classic players are in an arms race against annoying RMT casinos, but Blizzard's working on strategies so 'they will hopefully piss off'
https://www.pcgamer.com/games/world-of-warcraft/wow-classic-players-are-in-an-arms-race-against-annoying-rmt-casinos-but-blizzards-working-on-strategies-so-they-will-hopefully-piss-off/
In a downright intriguing turn of events, it looks like real money trading (RMT) gold sellers—whose peddling of gold for actual cash is against World of Warcraft's terms of service—have taken to the streets of WoW Classic Anniversary to advertise casino games as a way of raking in cash (thanks, WoWHead).
These bots, boosted to level 58 (presumably because doing so via the store gives you 25 gold to play around with—and to protect themselves from ganks, more on that later) have been standing on street corners in major cities and trying to lure players in with the promise of gambling. Which—and I write this with pride—has led to players devising new and inventive ways to kill them.

Witchspire is a charming Palworld-esque survival crafting game that replaces the unpaid monster labour with magic and whimsy
https://www.pcgamer.com/games/survival-crafting/witchspire-is-a-charming-palworld-esque-survival-crafting-game-that-replaces-the-unpaid-monster-labour-with-magic-and-whimsy/
I didn't really like Palworld all that much—granted, survival and crafting games are hit-or-miss subjects with me, but I also just couldn't quite get past the whole 'isn't it funny how your little critters get depressed if you put them on the assembly line for too long' thing. Witchspire solves those problems, then, by being altogether charming and lovely with much the same gameplay loop.

You know what? I'll also add the other articles, because a post with only those three felt wrong:

That's bonkers.

I hope AMD's prediction comes true and things get better in teo years (hopefully sooner than that) because if not, the console and PC gaming business will look very dire.

I'm no longer surprised with Ubi laying off people, but I'm actually surprised by them trying to hide it. Like, did they really think it would work? Are they that delusional?
