Yeah, it will have everything to do with the price - I was comparing $349 9060XT with 5060Ti, which is currently in stock at its MSRP of $429. Personally, I would go that extra for 5060Ti for DLSS and better RT, but I'm guessing if AMD keeps those models at their MSRP, it has a shot at nVidia at that segment.

9060XT, from my perspective, is not that great of a deal compared to how 9070XT, at least at launch, measured against 5070 Ti, though currently difference in price is too small not to go for 5070Ti.

All comes down to price for me, hence the 9060XT ($630) over the 5060Ti 16GB ($800) vs the 7800XT ($750).
I tend to go high-end on the rest of my system and would prefer to buy a mid-range GPU and just upgrade a little more often...

Already seeing the 16GB cards sell out here leaving the more expensive $700 Radeon 9060XT 16GB's, which is still cheaper than the 5060Ti 16GB... But not what I would call budget or mid-range pricing.

I would hazard a guess we might see pricing on the 9060XT 16GB cards creep towards $800 AUD over the coming months, pricing will always be dictated by what the market is willing to pay.

In AMD's defense I haven't really missed out on nVidia's features... I rather turn settings down and hit native resolution than use something like DLSS, FSR or XESS which introduces artifacts and stuff, I feel upscaling is more useful for laptops and handhelds where there could be potential power savings.

RT definitely needs some work still, but the 9000 series is "good enough" that it's at-least usable now.

Oh yeah, that's 110USD difference between 9060XT and 5060Ti, which is quite a gap, especially if you don't care for DLSS. In the longer run, when more games support FSR4, that price difference will become even more pronounced.

As for upscaling - give it a shot with FSR4 in games that support it - it really looks good, and even better than DLSS3.

I find upscaling to be quite valuable in lot of cases, be it running PC more silent, having some graphics settings turned higher, but especially in the case where you have enough GPU juice and want to run downsampling from higher than native res.

I played Mandragora that way, setting rendering resolution to 5120x2880 (I'm on 1440p screen), turned DLSS performance on, which then rendered at 1440p and upscaled to 2880p, and than DSR did its thing and downscaled it back to 1440p. You might be wondering why, but I played most of the game with two-handed sword which is at this very sharp angle when at reast, so even with DLAA at 1440p it looked very jagged. Well, with this approach, all, and I mean all jaggies were smooth as silk, and I avoided severe performance penalty if I only ran DSR at 2880p with no DLSS.

https://www.pcgamer.com/games/mmo/dune-awakening-isnt-even-officially-out-yet-and-it-already-has-almost-100-000-players/
Survival MMO Dune: Awakening isn't even really out, officially: we're now in the five day advanced access period (everyone calls it the "head start") where only players who have purchased the $70 deluxe edition or the $90 ultimate edition can play.
That hasn't stopped the desert planet of Arrakis from getting a ton of new citizens. According to SteamDB, just a few hours into the head start launch, Dune: Awakening already has nearly 100,000 players building bases, riding speeders, clambering up cliffs, and dodging sandworms.
>> Well, this makes it easy to find out how many people have bought the expensive editions of the game. Also, the reviews have gone from Mostly Negative to Very Positive in 24 hours.

Half-Life 2 becomes a loot-hoarding roguelike dungeon crawl in this Next Fest mod demo
https://www.pcgamer.com/games/fps/half-life-2-becomes-a-loot-hoarding-roguelike-dungeon-crawl-in-this-next-fest-mod-demo/
It is the year 2025 and everything is a roguelite now. Even the games of yesteryear are getting randomizers and procedural generation shoehorned in, and Half-Life 2 isn't escaping either. Good thing that SourceWorld is pretty dang fun, if its newly released Next Fest demo is any indication.
It's a standalone total conversion for Half-Life 2 (you only need to have the original game in your Steam account) that casts you as a dimension-hopping impoverished hitman from a liberated timeline, hunting Combine remnants across time and space on a shoestring budget.
I'd previously mentioned SourceWorld in my 2024 roundup of Half-Life 2's most impressive mods. Back then, it was closer to a proof-of-concept prototype. A technical feat, but unpolished. The version now available on Steam isn't much larger, but it has seen a lot of under-the-hood changes and refinement, including a complete rewrite of the game's procedural map generation system, more functional AI (Half-Life 2's enemies were never designed to feel their way around dynamic environments), a tutorial mission and a cleaner, more functional interface. It almost feels like a retail game, circa 2005. And yes, that was twenty years ago. I feel old too.
>> The article has a three minutes trailer of the mod.

Friday gaming news, part two:

Russia says it won't arrest players after seizing the studio behind the Russian World of Tanks offshoot, accusing it of funnelling funds to Ukraine

Russia has come down hard on Lesta Games (via Meduza), the domestic company that inherited local rights to World of Tanks (or Mir Tankov, as it's known locally) after its original dev, Wargaming, exited Belarus and Russia in protest of the latter's 2022 invasion of Ukraine.

It has been almost a year since Fallen Aces arrived on the early access scene, bringing impeccable Dick Tracy gangster comic vibes to the immersive sim genre. Heroes of the Storm has announced that, to celebrate the game's 10th anniversary, all heroes will be free for all players until June 15, there's one new skin, and if you login, you'll get a few little bonuses to boot. A long-lost Duke Nukem prototype resurfaces after 24 years
https://www.pcgamer.com/games/action/a-long-lost-duke-nukem-prototype-resurfaces-after-24-years/
It's strange to think that once upon a time, Duke Nukem—Johnny Bravo's sleazier cousin and poster child for videogame violence—was a cornerstone of gaming culture. No matter how inappropriate, he could be found on any and all platforms, from the original monochrome Game Boy to N64 and beyond.
Time-travel misadventure Duke Nukem: D-Day (alternatively 'Man of Valor') was going to be the big man's first outing on PlayStation 2, developed by now-defunct studio n-Space, makers of two PS1 games in the series. Despite being reportedly close to finished, the game got canned and never saw the light of day. Until now, as a 2001 prototype build featuring 12 playable levels leaked onto the Internet Archive today.

NVIDIA Dominates AIB GPU Market With 92% Share In Q1 2025, AMD Drops To 8% & Intel To 0%

https://wccftech.com/nvidia-dominates-aib-gpu-market-share-in-q1-2025-amd-intel-drop/

Welp, this is as accurate of a market share reading as we get in the gpu space and even with all the fuck ups from Nvidia, their market share continues to be nuts. But keep in mind that 9070/9070 XT launched in March 6th vs 5090/5080 launching in January 30th, 5070 Ti in February 20th and 5070 in March 5th.

Jizz_Beard_thePirate said:

So from what I could find out, this is based on shipment numbers, not sell-through. And the shipment for the RX 9070(XT) was pretty small as it sold out very quickly while NVidia had several new GPUs to ship out in the same timeframe. What I don't know for sure however is if server GPUs are included in this calculation or not, but I don't think they do, as then the gap should be even wider.

Now that AMD has ramped up production with a higher wafer allocation for their GPUs and launched the 9060XT while NVidia had less cards to launch, this should narrow down a bit again, especially since it looks increasingly like several NVidia cards are sitting on shelves right now (especially the 5070 and 8GB 5060Ti, hence why those dropped below MSRP already in Europe), so less shipments of existing cards inbound. And hopefully AMD will also ship more cards to the US, $1000+ plus taxes for a 9070XT in some stores is simply wild.

It includes all Desktop PC GPU's.

So the millions of RTX desktop cards that are being shipped to China for A.I. would be included in this.

In saying that, it does sorta' reflect the Steam statistics to a degree as well.

Absolutely crap situation to be in, having two competitors and still having 90% or more marketshare, the consumer ultimately lost out on this.

Well remember that we had plenty of reports that suggested Radeon was stock piling cards with to the delay. So idk if the shipment numbers will actually increase significantly or not. If anything, the bump in % before Q1 for Radeon might have been them shipping all those cards to retailers. Hard to say though but regardless, we will see in the coming months how it all shapes up.

AMD was stockpiling, but only after the rush and seeing that it didn't help much and sold out quickly anyway did they actually increase the wafer allocation for their GPUs. Also, since the original plan was to release them in January, many were already shipped in the previous quarter.

While I don't think it will break the 20% mark anytime soon, but it will get slowly better since their cards are better received this gen by the general public than before.

I think the bump AMD had in Q4'24 was because Nvidia was so scared to launch the Blackwell GPUs with Ada cards still on shelves (Iwonder why...) that they dried up the market, leaving users almost no choice but to buy AMD cards.

Since the chart is shipments, I also think that most of the shipments for the 9070(XT) actually happened already in late 2024. AMD wasn't shipping many RDNA 3 cards anymore, either, so I think most of that spike was for the then-imminent launch of the 9070(XT). Remember that AIBs were ready for launch only to be told by AMD to wait for 2 more months.
