UNRAVEL GAMEPLAY TRAILER DEMONSTRATES PUZZLE-SOLVING WITH YARN

http://www.pcgamer.com/unravel-gameplay-trailer-demonstrates-puzzle-solving-with-yarn/

Unravel is a puzzle-platformer in which you'll become a creature made entirely of yarn—and yes, I'm talking about the stuff that's more traditionally used for knitting sweaters. It's entirely physics based, and everything behaves in a realistic fashion--within the limits of a videogame, naturally. The core challenge, as this new gameplay video illustrates, is that Yarny, your stringy alter-ego, begins the game tied to something, and the farther away you get from it, the more you unravel.

THE BANNER SAGA SOUNDTRACK IS GETTING A VINYL RELEASE

http://www.pcgamer.com/the-banner-saga-soundtrack-is-getting-a-vinyl-release/

The Banner Saga was a very beautiful game, in no small part due to its soundtrack. Composed by Grammy award nominated Austin Wintory, it's full of atmospheric, ye olde European folk music, the likes of which would probably sound very good on vinyl. As the image above suggests, you'll soon have the opportunity to hear it that way.

THE SECTOPOD AND THE GATEKEEPER JOIN THE XCOM 2 CAST

http://www.pcgamer.com/the-sectopod-and-the-gatekeeper-join-the-xcom-2-cast/

A pair of new alien enemies who will make your life miserable, the Sectopod and the Gatekeeper, have joined the XCOM 2 lineup. And yes, you would be correct in pointing out that the first of the two isn't exactly “new,” as the massive, robotic Sectopod also appeared in XCOM: Enemy Unknown. But as bad as it was in that game—and make no mistake, it was nasty—the XCOM 2 version will be even worse.

>>Chazore, here's new material for your X-Com 2 thread. And that's not all

http://www.pcgamer.com/anno-2205-update-13-brings-a-new-sector-and-lots-of-bug-fixes/

Anno 2205 is getting a bunch of post-launch support to keep the cobwebs at bay, and Ubisoft has just released update 1.3, which adds new content and polishes up some existing stuff. The jewel in the crown is a new Sector in the form of Wildwater Bay, which is available in the game world's Temperate Region.

TORMENT: TIDES OF NUMENERA BETA BEGINS TODAY

http://www.pcgamer.com/torment-tides-of-numenera-beta-begins-today/

After the Torment: Tides of Numenera beta was delayed past the end of last year, a forum post by inXile has finally fixed a date: today, January 21. Most of us will have to wait till January 26 when it appears on Early Access, however—the first wave of keys will only be going out to Kickstarter backers who pledged $75-plus. If that's you, all the necessary instructions will be emailed along with the code.

TWO NEW HEROES ANNOUNCED FOR HEROES OF THE STORM

Blizzard are going hard on Heroes of the Storm this year. In an interview with MetaBomb, game director Dustin Browder has announced two new characters joining the roster, both inspired by Diablo. This comes on top of the addition of Genn Greymane on January 12 and Blizzard's heavy investment in the latest season of Heroes tournaments.

How long do you want the piece of string to be? I've got some scissors

They also need to hurry up and confirm FFX HD for Steam too. Then my top 3 all time favourite games will be on steam

They are pretty slow when it comes to these sort of jobs, though I can easily imagine that it'll be another mobile port that will need to be modded no doubt.

I'm more interested in how long it will take them to announce XV because I know they have been catching up to re-release the old ones to Steam which is what some other Japanese devs have been doing and then releasing the new ones shortly as well, I'd expect SE to follow suite sooner or later.

You can add me in the "When will they launch FF 9?" club.

And I'm also interested in its price, in part because a few days ago I read a rumor saying that it would cost 24.99 € instead of the usual 14.49 € of the other FF games.

eh, XV can wait. Won't be as good as the classics anyway

Very happy about how many Japanese publishers are porting to PC these days though. Koei Tecmo seem keen on it as well, and now Spike Chunsoft too

It is nice to see them porting over some new and old titles, though KT leaves a lot to be desired for me due to the port qualities of their titles. I really wanted Pirate Warriors 3 but seeing the port just threw me off it which means I have to wait for another PW game in the hopes I'll actually get a version that's either better or on par with current gen.

JEDEC Announces Publication of GDDR5X Graphics Memory Standard

http://www.techpowerup.com/219436/jedec-announces-publication-of-gddr5x-graphics-memory-standard.html

"Derived from the widely adopted GDDR5 SGRAM JEDEC standard, GDDR5X specifies key elements related to the design and operability of memory chips for applications requiring very high memory bandwidth. With the intent to address the needs of high-performance applications demanding ever higher data rates, GDDR5X is targeting data rates of 10 to 14 Gb/s, a 2X increase over GDDR5. In order to allow a smooth transition from GDDR5, GDDR5X utilizes the same, proven pseudo open drain (POD) signaling as GDDR5."

I'm really looking forward to playing Unravel, the yarn-based puzzle-platformer being developed by Coldwood Interactive and EA. But I may never get to play it—at least not by that name. GILLIAN ANDERSON HAS A LAUGH IN NEW STAR CITIZEN VIDEO

http://www.pcgamer.com/gillian-anderson-has-a-laugh-in-new-star-citizen-video/

The new Squadron 42: Behind the Scenes video featuring Gillian Anderson of X-Files fame is fun not because of what it tells us about the single-player campaign for Star Citizen or the work that's going into it, but because of Anderson's visible amusement (and bemusement) about the whole thing. She takes the work seriously—she's a pro—but she's very all too aware of the fact that she's running around in her long underwear, waving a toy gun at imaginary space monsters.

Nonetheless, the sharp-eyed members of the Undertale subreddit have determined that there may be more going on than meets the eye.

The StarCade will open in Los Angeles at some point in spring or summer with the aim of making high-end VR accessible to all, and presumably garner some hype for their swanky tech and Overkill's The Walking Dead, which will be the star attraction (geddit?).
