The best, or least bad, approach would be the one they did with Ghost of Tsushima, were the single player part was open to all while the multiplayer aspect required the PSN account. At least in my opinion.

I still remember how they said that you wouldn't need a PSN account to play single player games. Yeah, that didn't last long.

I guess boasting PSN gains in their earning calls is more important than selling a few thousand extra copies, and who knows what plans does Sony have for those accounts in the future. Who knows, maybe it's the first step for a future streaming service or whatever.

Sad to say, but Ghosts doesn't even show up on my end.

So while they don't enforce PSN for the SP, they still enforce it for the MP, and because that system is baked into the game from the beginning, it means it will not show up on my end of Steam 9when I showed you that screenshot, Ghosts didn't show up for me either).

The thing is, their boast numbers strategy is going to flop hard, simply because they are forcefully using Steam to further gate people out of buying their games on that platform, which I feel Valve should put their foot down on (because Sony are basically treating Steam like they own the place, with all they've been doing recently). Sony's investors are eventually going to catch wind that people are being effectively locked out of even seeing those games on Steam, and they'll eventually start to question the logic of making less money/pissing off would-be customers (like me, because now I cannot buy anything from them since their PSN enforcement began, and they are now akin to NetEase to me, another publisher I can never buy or see any games from due to their lack of UK regional support).

The PSN sign in is silly, but I'm not too bothered given I have had a PSN since the ps3. I would be more annoyed if I had to make an account like Diablo.

See that's the thing though. Blizzard also gets their pass, primarily because they set up their Battle.net system a long, long time ago (it was originally a chat network for their games). I've had my Battle.net account for as long as I can remember (talking about the old Warcraft days before WoW).

Sony's enforcement means I flat out cannot see their brand new games on the very client I use to buy my games and play them on. At least Blizzard know my island exists, that the UK exists, and they sell to both of us, and have done for decades now. Sony on the other hand just pretended in recent years that I now don't exist, which makes NO SENSE?.

Honestly I want the FTC to actually turn around and put that spyglass onto Sony, because this isn't how you treat another platform, let alone client and it's customers.

Battle of the upscalers is here! As usual, Nvidia leads the pack with DLSS while PSSR does well and comes in second place. XeSS falls behind PSSR and FSR is miles behind everyone. Maybe with the launch of RDNA 4, Radeon will finally give Radeon users a proper Ai upscaler... Nearly 4 generations after Nvidia came up with the tech lol

I'm personally worried about Sony pulling the plug at some point. I tend to play quite old games at times, and I'd hate a game I've paid for to not be available anymore because a company added an unnecessary account requirement. Yes, I kind of think in the long term...

So how does that actually work?

Is the PSN requirement blocked in Europe per a law - is that the reason why some countries you cant get Playstation games on PC because of the requirement?

The EU isn't blocking Sony from adding a PSN requirement. If that was something remotely close to the truth, Ubi wouldn't be allowed to do the same with UbiConnect or Rockstar with their Social whatever crap.

The reason PSN isn't worldwide, including some territories in Europe, is that Sony doesn't sell their consoles there and Sony only supports PSN in countries where they've launched their consoles. Sony may have launched some of their games on PC, but they still make their decisions based on their console business.

It's as simple and dumb as that.

Oh I see, damn that sucks.

"Oh man, we lost a ton of money investing into Concord. Maybe we should use the wide reach ability of Steam and PC to sell our games in countries where we are unable to sell our Playstation console thus providing players who haven't had a chance to play our games to buy them and make money"

"Nah, just ban all the countries where we don't see our console"

The PSN account requirement makes little sense to me. If they made it optional, almost every PlayStation owner would probably use it anyway, leaving the non-PS owners the interesting case. By forcing non-PS owners to use a PSN account, I don't believe Sony has much to gain, since what benefit could Sony possibly get from requiring an account? It's not like Sony has much to sell to non-PS owners, and forcing them to use an account isn't going to make them much more likely to get a PlayStation either. On the other hand, there's going to be a good number of people that aren't getting games they might otherwise be getting. My guess is that this is at best a very minor win to Sony, but the badwill gained from this nonsense shouldn't be worth it.

The PvP demos were mentioned. I don't really care much for PvP, but I did download the Delta Force demo because I'm interested in the game despite the PvP factor. I haven't tried it yet though, but I should have time this weekend (well I'd better have, because I think the demo won't be available much longer).

I didn't reply to the demos part of your message yesterday. By the way, I hope you've managed to get some time to try the Delta Force demo.

So far, and I don't think I'll try more,m I've tried four:

  • Commandos Origins_ It only has one mission. Not bad by any means, but it's no different than all the other games of the same genre that are launching nowadays. Sumerian Six, that has a demo I tried some days ago and it's still available, made a better impression. It's still better than Commandos 3, so at least there's that.
  • TMNT: Splintered Fate_ I didn't finish it. It's ok but it didn't catch my attention. Maybe the fans of the characters will enjoy it more.
  • The Precint_ It has three missions, a car chase, a patrol around the neighborhood on foot and an helicopter chase. All of them very different. I think it needs a bit of polish and we'll see how the final game actually plays, because the neighborhood patrol was ok, but it could be boring and repetitive.
  • Warside_ I've only played two of the missions. It's like Advance Wars. I'm not really good with these games so I can't really say anything about how well balanced it is. At least it's not boring.

If you have any recomendations, I'm all ears, although there isn't much time until the Next Fest ends.
