Hunt: Showdown enjoys highest-ever player count after 1896 update, but player complaints about UI are pushing down its Steam review score: 'I've never seen such a bizarre reaction to so much amazing content'
https://www.pcgamer.com/games/fps/hunt-showdown-enjoys-highest-ever-player-count-after-1896-update-but-player-complaints-about-ui-are-pushing-down-its-steam-review-score-ive-never-seen-such-a-bizarre-reaction-to-so-much-amazing-content/
Grungy horror extraction shooter Hunt: Showdown just received its biggest update in years, with developer Crytek upgrading its engine, overhauling its UI, adding a fourth map called Mammon's Gulch, and introducing other meaningful tweaks. It's such an extensive rework that the game has even been given a new name—Hunt: Showdown 1896.
The first day of availability saw Hunt reach a new high for concurrent players: 59,968, which is 18,000 more than its previous high in October 2023. Likewise, at the time we're publishing this, more than 51,000 are in-game, chasing and/or being immolated by the new Hellborn boss.
By that metric, the shooter is more popular than it's ever been. But simultaneously, the update has drawn aggravated complaints from a number of negative reviews on Steam, 3,730 of them so far, which have pushed Hunt's short-term label to Mostly Negative, while its longer-term state remains Mostly Positive.
How can Hunt both be more popular than ever and be condemned by a higher-than-ever number of players on Steam? The primary bone of contention is its new pre-match UI, shown in the video embedded lower on the page, with many reviewers complaining that Crytek's changes have made it worse rather than better.
(...)
Update 5 PM EST, August 16th: In a two-minute video posted to Hunt: Showdown 1896's channels, Crytek design director Dennis Schwarz acknowledged the complaints made by players about the game's UI and announced forthcoming changes.

Red Dead Redemption Remastered runs with 60fps on PC via shadPS4 but there is a catch
https://www.dsogaming.com/news/red-dead-redemption-remastered-runs-with-60fps-on-pc-via-shadps4-but-there-is-a-catch/
Yesterday, we informed you about the release of shadPS4 V0.2.0. And, from the looks of it, this PlayStation 4 emulator can run Red Dead Redemption Remastered with 60fps on a high-end PC. However, there is a catch.
You see, at 60fps, the game is running at double the original speed. I don’t know why it’s happening, but that’s not the way it was meant to be played. Moreover, there are a lot of visual bugs and glitches.
Still, this is incredible news. The fact that the game can run with 60fps is mind-blowing. Not only that but an Intel i7-10700 with an NVIDIA GeForce RTX 3060 is more than enough for 60fps. This is shockingly impressive.
>> There’s a short video In the article.

Here’s your first look at Bloodborne running on PC via shadPS4
https://www.dsogaming.com/videotrailer-news/heres-your-first-look-of-bloodborne-running-on-pc-via-shadps4/
And the time has finally come. Yep, this isn’t an out-of-date April’s Fools joke. This is the first gameplay footage of Bloodborne, running on PC via the PlayStation 4 emulator, shadPS4. So, waste no time and take a look at it.
This gameplay footage was shared on the Discord server of shadPS4. In other words, this is from an unreleased version of the PS4 emulator. So no, you won’t be able to run and play Bloodborne via shadPS4 V0.2.0 which came out recently.
What’s impressive here is the framerate. When shadPS4 was struggling to run the game, we all believed that it would take months until we’d see a somewhat acceptable performance. To my surprise, though, this gameplay video runs at… almost 30fps? I can’t tell since the team has not included a Performance Overlay. However, it does feel smooth (and over 20fps).
As you’ll see, there are numerous visual glitches and graphical issues. Even so, it’s amazing how smoothly the game already runs. I didn’t expect to see Bloodborne running this well on shadPS4 so soon. The shadPS4 team has really gone above and beyond what I thought they could do.
>> The video is over 2 minutes long.

Doom 2 Ray-Traced looks even better with RTX Remix Renderer
https://www.dsogaming.com/screenshot-news/doom-2-ray-traced-looks-even-better-with-rtx-remix-renderer/
Earlier this week, we shared an amazing Path Tracing Mod for Doom 2. But, what if I told you that you can make Doom 2 Ray-Traced look even better? Well you see, its modder has also released an experimental RTX Remix Renderer. And as you will see, it looks incredible.
As shirokii said, RTX Remix creates a fully path-traced image with more complex light interactions. It also makes the picture much sharper and clearer on powerful PCs. Plus, it supports NVIDIA’s Ray Reconstruction.
So, below you can find some comparison screenshots. The default renderer of Doom 2 Ray-Traced is on the left, whereas the RTX Remix Renderer is on the right.
(...)
The only drawback of the RTX Remix Renderer is that the “jelly” blood effects don’t work. Instead, you’ll see the original blood effects and particles. But for those who didn’t like the “jelly” effects, this could actually be a good thing. After all, a lot have complained about them. So, that’s another plus if you did not like them.

According to a creator of the ambitious H2M Modern Warfare 2 mod shuttered by Activision, the multi-billion dollar corporation was worried the free project would disrupt Black Ops 6's sales

First spotted by Insider Gaming, Watchful Wolf, a member of the hotly anticipated H2M mod project to remaster the original Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2's multiplayer by way of the Modern Warfare 1 remaster, has released a video elaborating on Activision's cease and desist order. According to Watchful Wolf, the mega publisher didn't want the potential competition with Black Ops 6 on the way.

The VR version of Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas is 'on hold indefinitely' as Meta and Rockstar shift their focus to other things
https://www.pcgamer.com/games/vr/the-vr-version-of-grand-theft-auto-san-andreas-is-on-hold-indefinitely-as-meta-and-rockstar-shift-their-focus-to-other-things/
Back in 2021, Meta announced that Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas was coming to its Quest 2 VR platform. "Get a new perspective on Los Santos, San Fierro, and Las Venturas as you experience (again or for the first time) one of gaming’s most iconic open worlds," Meta said at the time. "This is a project many years in the making, and we can’t wait to show you more of it."

"GTA: San Andreas is on hold indefinitely while we both focus on other projects," the official MetaQuestVR account said in response to an inquiry posted on YouTube. "We look forward to working with our friends at Rockstar in the future." Meta later confirmed that statement with IGN.

Swen Vincke was worried that the 100-hour Baldur's Gate 3 would be too short, which is why Larian made a ton of extra areas they wound up cutting: 'I've notoriously always been bad at judging the length of our games'

In a new BAFTA video interview, Larian CEO Swen Vincke revealed that he was actually worried Baldur's Gate 3 wouldn't be long enough, an anxiety that's pretty rich in hindsight, given that some players struggle to finish the marathon RPG. Vincke revealed this old fear as a partial explanation for why Baldur's Gate 3 has so many tantalizing cut areas, while also describing one such zone we hadn't heard about before: a second Moonrise Tower to go with the one we saw in Act Two.

Neo-Victorian survival sim Nightingale is getting 'handcrafted realms,' more boss fights, and an all-new campaign in a major update coming later this summer

Earlier this month, Nightingale developer Inflexion said it wanted to bring "more structure" to the game so players will have a better idea of where they're going, what they're doing, and why they're doing it, and also to help reduce the feeling of repetition between the game's different realms. In an update posted today on Steam, the dev team offered a deeper insight into what it has in mind, including the introduction of new "handcrafted realms," a new campaign, and—everyone's favorite—boss fights.

We all know cleaning up in games can be just as much fun as making a mess. If you've ever mopped up blood and guts in Viscera Cleanup Detail or sprayed gunk off Doc Brown's time machine in PowerWash Simulator, here's an offer you can't refuse: combine those two games and you get Crime Scene Cleaner, where you hose down and scrub up bloody murder scenes until they're clean as a whistle.

Co-op shooter Hellbreach: Vegas has reached its 1.0 release after a little over a year of early access. While the pick-up-and-play FPS has gotten a $5 price increase over early access, a launch sale will keep it at the initial $10 price until August 28.

Exoborne is making the extraction shooter less punishing, and taking storytelling notes from Hades
https://www.pcgamer.com/games/third-person-shooter/how-exoborne-is-making-extraction-shooters-less-punishing-and-taking-storytelling-notes-from-hades/
If there’s anyone that can speak authoritatively about the extraction shooter as a genre, it’s Petter Mannerfelt. He's currently creative director on Sharkmob’s high-stakes PvPvE shooter Exoborne, but not too long ago he was a game director at Ubisoft Massive, where he worked on The Division and (most notably) its Dark Zone mode.
(...)
With Exoborne, Petter says the studio has both matured and is better positioned this time, as the extraction shooter is still a relatively young and malleable concept. While Escape From Tarkov has put forward a popular and extremely tense template for the genre, Exoborne is taking a somewhat softer, more mass-market approach.

https://www.pcgamer.com/games/mmo/runescapes-latest-content-roadmap-includes-group-ironman-mode-a-new-skilling-boss-and-exciting-advancements-in-woodcutting/
Runescape, the game that isn't the old school one that I imagine when someone says "Runescape," just rolled out a new roadmap of upcoming content. On YouTube, Runescape developer Jagex unveiled Runescape Ahead, which it says will be its ongoing format for long-term previews of updates on the horizon. In the first instalment, detailing what'll be hitting Runescape through late 2024 and early 2025, Jagex offered early glimpses at a pile of new features, updates, and content additions, like new story quests and bosses, a group ironman mode, and more. Try to contain your excitement, woodcutters: You're getting a new tree.

Sorcerers were doing too much magic for Diablo 4's servers to handle, so Blizzard nerfed their most popular build
https://www.pcgamer.com/games/rpg/sorcerers-were-doing-too-much-magic-for-diablo-4s-servers-to-handle-so-blizzard-nerfed-their-most-popular-build/
A chaotic new sorcerer build in Diablo 4's latest season was so strong it was killing more than demons. The servers, it seems, couldn't handle players filling their screens with lightning bolts and frozen orbs, so Blizzard had to step in yesterday and fix it.

After Helldivers 2 cheaters undercut its latest Major Order by turning in millions of bug bits at once, Arrowhead canceled the whole thing with an in-universe justification: 'The ones submitting false samples have had their pet fish summarily executed'

In an in-game message to players today, Arrowhead Games has revealed that cheaters short circuited Helldivers 2's latest Major Order. The studio has given out its intended reward to all non-cheating players, and in typical Helldivers fashion, couched the whole thing in Super Earth-appropriate terms within the fiction.
"Super Earth High Command has detected a large batch of counterfeit samples within the delivery of the last Major Order," the message reads. "As is customary, Medals have been awarded to all Helldivers who honorably performed their duties, and the ones submitting false samples have had their pet fish summarily executed.

https://www.pcgamer.com/games/strategy/total-war-warhammer-3s-dwarfs-will-be-able-to-turtle-properly-in-the-next-update-and-the-other-reworks-seem-decent-too/
Creative Assembly's 17-minute chat about "What's next?" for Total War: Warhammer 3 in June explained that updates between DLC for its blend of grubby fantasy and grand strategy would be more substantial, and we're seeing that now with a dev blog for the 5.2 update. Dwarfs are getting a new feature, Chaos Cults are being reworked, Cathay's Ivory Roads are being updated, and a "mini feature" called Unusual Locations is being added, all of which sound pretty neat.

As the mature content description on its Steam page warns, "This game contains scenes of explicit violence and gore, also contains sensitive themes and tank controls".

Go on roguelike dives to keep evil gods asleep in Feed the Deep
https://www.pcgamer.com/games/roguelike/go-on-roguelike-dives-to-keep-evil-gods-asleep-in-feed-the-deep/
A new roguelike invites you to do some terrifying and claustrophobic diving in caves beneath the sea, which is either the least appealing thing you've ever heard of or an exciting premise for a spooky game with probably very little space in between. In Feed the Deep you go diving beneath the waves to find resources that you use to keep the cosmic horrors slumbering beneath the world doing just that: Slumbering. As opposed to rising from the depths and devouring mankind and all that.

It's late August, and you know what that means: Time for an absurdly lavish videogame industry event. No, not the Geoff Keighley one. Not the other Geoff Keighley one either. This time it's Gamescom (which, thanks to Opening Night Live, kind of is another Keighley event). removing the battery wouldn't require you to reinstall windows or software/drivers, so you're okay on that end, though I don't think it will solve your video output issue.

Have you tried checking your cable and it's quality?. I had one bad DP cable years ago that claimed to be "gold standard", but that's what I get for buying from a friend's thrift shop in the first place.

Yeah I have tried two cables and two different monitors.  What is odd and when it works it works, once I get output the system is flawless.  I did update the Bios recently and the problems started right after, which is why I was thinking it had something to do with that.  But I could be wrong.

From what I know, a reset will only change the settings you may have changed to its default ones. I'm tlaking about voltags, frequencies and such. It won't change the BIOS version to an older one.

What you can do in most cases is download an older BIOS, from the same place as the latest one, and install that over the new one. Be warned, tho, that some BIOS have something in them to prevent this from happening (tho I'm confident you could find a way to pass that on the net) and that you'll be putting your CPU again at risk of destroying itself.

Have you checked if MSI has launched a new BIOS since the one you installed? Maybe it's a common problem and they've fixed it with a new release.

I think this is a good point.  I will check out MSI's website and see if anything is new.  Perhaps there is something new since I last played with it.

Edit

Based on dates I may have installed a beta BIOS update.  MSI has a newer one, will try that this weekend.

I might tut tut at the endless, rapacious pursuit of wealth for its own sake that defines our society, but at the end of the day, I still want to know who's making the big bucks and imagine what I'd do with them, baby. Thankfully, The Sunday Times has just come out with its Rich List of the 30 wealthiest figures in the UK games industry.

At the top of the list are Igor and Dmitry Bukhman, whose names, games, and studio I had never heard of before beholding this very list. The brothers founded and own Playrix, a 4,000 person-strong developer of free-to-play mobile games, with their most notable releases being Township, Fishdom, Homescapes, and Gardenscapes. I guess I'm happy for them and their eye-watering £12.5 billion fortune.

Past a metaverse guy and the founder of Candy Crush developer King, now the oft-forgotten third pillar of Activision Blizzard King, you'll run into some rich guys more PC gamers will recognize: Dan and Sam Houser, who lay claim to an estimated £350 million fortune. Co-founders of the niche indie developer, Rockstar Games, their fortune was built on revenue from Rockstar's breakout hits: The Warriors in 2005 and Bully in 2006. Those games' runaway success have allowed Rockstar to indulge in less lucrative passion projects like Grand Theft Auto and Red Dead Redemption.

The biggest surprise, at least for me, is #6 on the list: Garry's Mod's titular creator, Garry Newman. I guess it shouldn't be a shocker. Garry's Mod is a ubiquitous presence in PC gaming, and despite the name, it's a $10 standalone game. Newman's Facepunch Studios is also behind the highly successful Rust, and his deep pockets have me much less worried about Newman's imminent Skibidi Toilet-related legal battles.
