Friday news, the second part:
Helldivers 2 announces slower gear releases alongside its latest warbond, Viper Commandos—which brings the game's first vehicle skins (and a rad-looking throwing knife)
https://www.pcgamer.com/games/third-person-shooter/helldivers-2-announces-slower-gear-releases-alongside-its-latest-warbond-viper-commandos-which-brings-the-game-s-first-vehicle-skins-and-a-rad-looking-throwing-knife/
Helldivers 2 appears to have taken on some of the criticism aimed at its last Warband, Polar Patriots, thoroughly on-board—seeing as this new batch of armaments looks geared to add some more unique mechanics into the game.
As announced on the Helldivers 2 Twitter today, the Viper Commandos warbond will be arriving June 13.
Dragon Age: Dreadwolf is now called Dragon Age: The Veilguard, first gameplay reveal is coming next week
https://www.pcgamer.com/games/rpg/dragon-age-dreadwolf-is-now-called-dragon-age-the-veilguard-first-gameplay-reveal-is-coming-next-week/
The next Dragon Age game is no longer called Dreadwolf: Bioware announced today that, to better "capture what this game is all about," it has changed the title to Dragon Age: The Veilguard.
Yoshi-P will turn Final Fantasy 14: Dawntrail around if players keep asking for a raise spell on Pictomancer, jokes: 'it'd be best to remove raise from all of those jobs' if they don't behave
https://www.pcgamer.com/games/final-fantasy/yoshi-p-will-turn-final-fantasy-14-dawntrail-around-if-players-keep-asking-for-a-raise-spell-on-pictomancer-jokes-it-d-be-best-to-remove-raise-from-all-of-those-jobs-if-they-don-t-behave/
I'm personally very much looking forward to splashing a bunch of paint around on Pictomancer, one of the two new jobs coming in Final Fantasy 14's Dawntrail expansion—mostly because I like a good ranged caster, but also because my Warrior of Light is a mean-looking Hyur and I want to see him getting all Bob Ross about it.
Fellow catboy enjoyer, FF14 player, and PC Gamer writer Mollie Taylor got to speak with game director Naoki Yoshida (Yoshi-P) at the Dawntrail Media tour recently during a roundtable. In the discussions that followed, Yoshi-P was asked what niche Pictomancer would be filling in groups—since it doesn't have a dedicated resurrection (or "raise") spell, but lacks the DPS of the hard-to-use Black Mage.
>> But he also said that the team is “taking aim at the game's same-y combat jobs and 2-minute-meta”.
Creators of new Ubisoft shooter didn't have a 3D animator, so they made the characters spheres—and it works
https://www.pcgamer.com/games/third-person-shooter/creators-of-new-ubisoft-shooter-didnt-have-a-3d-animator-so-they-made-the-characters-spheres/
Before it was picked up by Ubisoft, free-to-play early access arena shooter BattleCore Arena—which (re)launched on Steam today—was a three-person project. There was one problem: none of the three friends, who met at work, were 3D animators.
The plan: just make the characters round.
Retro collection specialist Digital Eclipse's next game is an unlikely sequel to a brutally hard 2013 platformer
https://www.pcgamer.com/games/action/retro-collection-specialist-digital-eclipses-next-game-is-an-unlikely-sequel-to-a-brutally-hard-2013-platformer/
Summer game announcement season is here with surprises in tow—this is one I definitely couldn't have predicted. During Thursday's Guerrilla Collective stream, Digital Eclipse—the studio best known in recent years for its "playable documentaries" like Atari 50 and The Making of Karateka—debuted a sequel to Volgarr the Viking, an indie action platformer from back in 2013.
My favorite roguelike where you can grant a chair the gift of sentience just got a UI update that makes it far more approachable

Caves of Qud is great. Like, "you can be a four-armed, winged gorilla man with a monofilament sword and unfortunate nearsightedness"-level great. It's a roguelike that delivers procedurally generated delight on par with Dwarf Fortress (a quick glance at the review will tell you that's one of the highest compliments I can give). But like Dwarf Fortress, Caves of Qud has suffered from a near-impenetrable interface—until now.
Concord is skipping free-to-play and pulling a Helldivers 2 instead: $40 for the full game with all 16 heroes at launch
https://www.pcgamer.com/games/fps/concord-is-skipping-free-to-play-and-pulling-a-helldivers-2-instead-dollar40-for-the-full-game-with-all-16-heroes-at-launch/
Following last week's reveal of Sony's big multiplayer FPS, we now know for sure that Concord is taking a path less traveled in live service gaming. Concord will not be free-to-play, instead charging $40 to get in the door.
Here's the trailer for Destiny 2's new raid, teasing The Final Shape's final showdown with The Witness
https://www.pcgamer.com/games/fps/heres-the-trailer-for-destiny-2s-new-raid-teasing-the-final-shapes-final-showdown-with-the-witness/
Destiny raids have always featured fights against the universe's biggest bad guys, but they don't get bigger than what's waiting at the end of Salvation's Edge. The Final Shape's raid, opening its doors tomorrow at 10 AM Pacific, will finally pit players against The Witness—the primordial antagonist whose forces we've been fighting for a decade. Imagine like, the most evil guy, but times a million. The Witness is like that. But worse!
>> That tomorrow is today.
The Axis Unseen, a 'heavy metal horror game' about bowhunting monsters from ancient folklore, drops a new trailer that is very metal indeed
https://www.pcgamer.com/games/action/the-axis-unseen-a-heavy-metal-horror-game-about-bowhunting-monsters-from-ancient-folklore-drops-a-new-trailer-that-is-very-metal-indeed/
Some games, you can just look at and immediately say to yourself, "Yeah, I want to play that." The Axis Unseen is one such game: It's a "heavy metal horror game" about hunting horrific monsters from ancient folklore being made by Bethesda veteran Nate Purkeypile, whose previous credits include Fallout 3 and 4, Skyrim, and Starfield. Yeah, I want to play that—and in October, I will.
MultiVersus developers say an in-game option to purchase more lives with real money was 'a bug'
https://www.pcgamer.com/games/fighting/multiversus-developers-say-an-in-game-option-to-purchase-more-lives-with-real-money-was-a-bug/
The makers of MultiVersus say an option giving players the ability to purchase more lives with real money during campaign missions is in fact "a bug," and not a feature that's meant to be in the game. As you might imagine, I—and lots of other people—have questions.
>> Like anyone would believe that!
