I've never understood how Seagate, that everybody despises and every report proves that aren't reliable, can still be in the business and do so well. I mean, look at that

http://www.guru3d.com/news-story/seagate-3tb-hdds-has-huge-failure-rates.html

That's unacceptable.

As for droping the optical drive, the builds are for the people of this site and (as I've said to Chazore) they will take any excuse to moan about it. That's why we also add keyboard, mouse and the OS, to avoid any source of conflict.

But yes, droping the optical ddrive would allow me to get the better CPU and, with a couple more changes (like going with the cheaped kb+m of the first build and using the 970 instead of the 390), I almost could go for the 16GB of RAM.

Oh dear, I knew it was bad, I remember seeing some data, but I had no idea it's that bad. Funny thing is, they bought Maxtor back in days, those were equally bad, so instead of going WD way and buying good manufacturer (like Hitachi, which is IBM basically), they expended their portfolio with another crap.

Holy shit that failure rate is insane.

LOL

I had fun in that thread to be honest.

I knew what I was getting into when I made that thread and I was highly confident in defending my view.

For a person like me - I love double and triple dipping when it comes to Final Fantasy however the same cant be said for other franchises even Mario, Pokemon, etc. I guess I'm just a Final Fantasy Fanboy :P.

Anyways, late ports not matter to me because I have such a huge backlog - by the time I get time to even play the new games - it'll probably be next gen xD.

Late ports kinda bother me when they turn up not so good =P, the ones that are stellar though get kudos from me.

I was just a bit mfifed with Vita trying to antagonize me since I didn't accept his "agree to disagree" deal since I wasn't really agreeing with him in the first place, he has double stanrds that he's missed and claiemd I had my own to which the cycle of calling "yeah but you" will never end.

He clearly doesn't like it when PC gets some love though =P.

I agree that some guys here are very insecure and attack everything that's different to what they think or support. It's their problem. Luckily I don't get in arguments with them, and when that has happened I simply pay no attention and refuse to answer them because that never works.

I guess it's a side effect of being a sales site. Selling more than the competition, "winning", is what matters to those guys, and anything that can be viewed as  a potential loss of sales and not winning, it a thread that has to be dealt with.

Bah, life will teach them the hard way.

By the way, I've added the mouse and kboard to your build. I don't have Skype so... yeah.

Yeah I guess that is a side effect, I mean for me I do like sales data but I'm not the guy who's going to be there rbeathing down your neck with "my platform is kicking your plats ass and I enjoy that, just letting you know I'll always be better than you", to me I enjoy when devs who have ignored us for years decide to start giving us games we've always wanted for years in more recent times, that's like a universal good thing that does no harm to other folk. I do however find it deliberately harmful when a console user demands a game be made exclusive to their platform and allow for no one else to have the game on their own tells me that they want us all to adhere to their desires and make them feel better about the plastic thought bought into which isn't really a healthy state of mind tbh, I can never get behind that mentality.

Either way the last few years have been good for PC gamers and it's getting better for us by the year anyway.

Thanks for doing that for me btw <3 and it;s no biggie about skype, we could always use other clients or gaming ones.

I said it yesterday on one of Basil threads, I've always thought that besides first and second party (because they are 1st party in disguise) that are and should keep being exclusive, the rest of games by third parties should be multiplatform. Because after all, it's for their own interest: the more platform you launch your games on, more sales they'll get.

The thing is that these last years we've seen a trend of more and more publishers launching their games on PC, and that trend is not only not stopping but in fact it's increasing, and that's specially evident with japanese devs/publishers. Up to two gens (console gens) ago, they never launched their games on PC, but nowadays we see how more and more japanese games get a PC release.

And the fun thing is that we should thank Sony and MSoft for that, it's the PS3 and 360 that increased the development costs so much that they forced them to launch their games on as many platforms as possible to get their money back.

Welcome to the forums.

Using server parts is a good alternative, but I think that it's only viable for those that know what are they doing. For the average consumer, the search for compatible parts and even the little moding involved in most cases, would be an almost impossible task.

Your build looks good, and unlike Linus, you won't have to mod new heatsinks! .

Coincidentally with our little project, Anandtech has announced the winners of what they've called "Build-A-Rig" contest. The builds had to cost $800, and here are the 2 winners:

Personally, I prefer our $700 builds.

XCOM 2 IS MORE OF THE SAME, JUST BIGGER AND BETTER

http://www.pcgamer.com/xcom-2-is-more-of-the-same-just-bigger-and-better/

As one Firaxis rep put it during my hands-on session last week, XCOM 2 is “about aliens and death”. Anyone familiar with Enemy Unknown, or aware of its reputation, knows that squad losses hit hard. Whether it’s because your heavy is named after your mum, or because you grew reliant on the prowess of your sniper (who happens to be named after your goldfish), that overwhelming sense of loss is what defined XCOM.

>>And here's the video that comes from that hand-on session: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=o50qX1j-BzI. It looks too good to be true.

@JEMC

One thing, i looked at linus like he was a retard buying a motherboard little to no expasion. also this build i linked, one of my non-tech-savy friends is going to build with as little help from me as a test to see how hard it would be, and with the knowldge to google issues, just see how far they get before they need help. also only issue i ran into on this build is the power supply due to it being that weird dell power harness i had to look for a psu that dell made worked still cheap but added 20$.

VALVE DETAILS THE RATIONALE BEHIND STEAM TRADE HOLDS

http://www.pcgamer.com/valve-details-the-rationale-behind-steam-trade-holds/

Towards the end of November, Valve implemented a system of 'trade holds' on Steam: three-day waiting periods between trade orders and their execution. If your account has been compromised and some soulless creature is trading away all of your items, the hold ought to give you the chance to discover the fraud and put a stop to it. The holds can be got around completely by using Steam Guard two-factor authentication, which necessitates the use of a second iOS or Android device. However, many weren't happy with the new waiting period, particularly those without compatible smartphones. Valve has now opted to walk us through its reasoning, and has some scary stats to back it up with.

FAR CRY PRIMAL DEV BLOG DIGS INTO THE CREATION OF A PRE-HISTORIC WORLD

http://www.pcgamer.com/far-cry-primal-dev-blog-digs-into-the-creation-of-a-pre-historic-world/

One of the tricky bits about making Far Cry Primal, as Ubisoft explains in its latest development blog update, is that we don't have any actual history from the Stone Age to tell us what it was like. So instead, the game and the land of Oros will be an "earnest recreation based on what we know about the time," with an impressive amount of effort being put into making it feel "real," even though it's not.

>>Check the linkto see the blog... in an amazing gameplay video.

AVIARY ATTORNEY FLOCKS TO STEAM DECEMBER 18

http://www.pcgamer.com/aviary-attorney-flocks-to-steam-december-18/

"I played it at Rezzed, and it's good—like Phoenix Wright, but with Victorian birds," Phil said of Aviary Attorney this morning, and what more need I add but to say that it's out on Steam on December 18? Ok, perhaps a little context would be appropriate.

>>And there's a release trailer! https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zuGJOdyoLo4. Yesterday was the Hatoful Boyfriend game and the winter update of CS:GO that put Christmas jumpers on chickens, and now this. I'm starting to see a worrying trend.
