Yeah I guess that is a side effect, I mean for me I do like sales data but I'm not the guy who's going to be there rbeathing down your neck with "my platform is kicking your plats ass and I enjoy that, just letting you know I'll always be better than you", to me I enjoy when devs who have ignored us for years decide to start giving us games we've always wanted for years in more recent times, that's like a universal good thing that does no harm to other folk. I do however find it deliberately harmful when a console user demands a game be made exclusive to their platform and allow for no one else to have the game on their own tells me that they want us all to adhere to their desires and make them feel better about the plastic thought bought into which isn't really a healthy state of mind tbh, I can never get behind that mentality. Either way the last few years have been good for PC gamers and it's getting better for us by the year anyway. Thanks for doing that for me btw <3 and it;s no biggie about skype, we could always use other clients or gaming ones. |
I said it yesterday on one of Basil threads, I've always thought that besides first and second party (because they are 1st party in disguise) that are and should keep being exclusive, the rest of games by third parties should be multiplatform. Because after all, it's for their own interest: the more platform you launch your games on, more sales they'll get.
The thing is that these last years we've seen a trend of more and more publishers launching their games on PC, and that trend is not only not stopping but in fact it's increasing, and that's specially evident with japanese devs/publishers. Up to two gens (console gens) ago, they never launched their games on PC, but nowadays we see how more and more japanese games get a PC release.
And the fun thing is that we should thank Sony and MSoft for that, it's the PS3 and 360 that increased the development costs so much that they forced them to launch their games on as many platforms as possible to get their money back.
