Yeah coming off a poor couple year of PC gaming, its been a barrage of disappointments and tone deaf announcements.

Off topic.. Hardware Unboxed did a analysis of DLSS 3 and included DLSS 2/native rendering comparisons.

The extra input lag when using DLSS 3 and visible artifacts isn't great. Granted at over 100FPS its hard to notice artifacts. Though needing such high frames with added input lag kinda negates the added smoothness by being less responsive overall. They also did tests to get to 60FPS target and its not pretty.

If they manage to get input lag on par with DLSS 2+Reflex that would be worth it. Rn its kinda eh, though with time if they address those issues it could prove to be a real game changer.

Yea this is what I meant when I said it probably won't be usable at all pre-4000 even if you could use it. Cause one thing you don't want is worse than native input latency and DLSS 3 in performance mode can give you better than native input latency but worse than DLSS 2. In some situations, that would be a good reason to enable it because of the smoother framerates. So while I am sure they will improve the artifacting with later iterations and continue to improve on the input latency, you really need the super fast Tensor Cores in Lovelace that is able to process the rendered frames fast enough.

I do think Hardware Unboxed continues to be too AMD bias though such as in that video where they mainly focused on negativity where as Digital Foundry did a better job of presenting the pros and cons of DLSS 3. Tune in when AMD makes a worse version where Hardware Unboxed will praise it.

True, I couldn't imagine running frame generation on lesser hardware and getting good results. Even more added more input lag would vastly diminish the benefits of having extra frames. So probably the right call on Nvidia's part, at least for now.

Yeah I noticed that as well, that they are heavily AMD biased. Which is quite apparent in their views and testings which usually favor AMD platforms. On the other side.. I don't trust DF so much as they do paid previews for other companies; so there may be partial or even (tin foil hat on) some clauses that enable or not allow they to say certain things. But yeah its probably best to take data from these guys and leave out the rest. And yeah I wouldn't be surprised if AMD has a go at this and make a worse version and HWU praising it, claiming its open source so its better lol.

It's about damn time! Should have been ready a long time ago.

I honestly think HU is the worst place to go for Nvidia news, seeing as how the dude will forever hold his grudge in the worst way possible, so an Nvidia user wanting to see benches or words from his channel are always gonna be in for a bad time.

DF and Steve at GN are like the two sources I'd trust for not much of a biased outlook on either side.

Pretty sure HU did a vid where they praised the fuck outta FSR vs DLSS, and as much as I like FSR on my 1080ti, I vastly prefer 2.1 over 1.0, because 1.0 just looks like arse.

Yeah, they have clearly some AMD bent.

However, I can agree to the general gist of this video: That the picture quality suffers too much with DLSS3, and does so more the lower the FPS are. Though if the FPS are above 100 there shouldn't be too much of an issue - unless you look at texts and the interface.

Seeing the interface jittering so much in FS and the names of the drivers if F22 becoming unreadable disqualifies DLSS3 for me until this is fixed.

I think people miss the point of why 1st person even exists in games, let alone in VR.

Yes, it would be sorta cool to have 3rd person in 2077, but I'm pretty sure a lot would say the same for just about every game known to man, but not everything has to be over the shoulder 3rd person, in order to tell a good story, let alone an impactful one.

We live our daily lives entirely in 1st person, and that's our general immersive way of viewing the world, through our own eyes, not some random camera floating behind us at all times, and I feel like some ppl miss that common fact of life.

Also, looking at the clip itself, the facial expressions from V are more uncanny valley or very stiff looking/rigid, and don't really convey powerful emotion, thus making 3rd person look like a bit of a joke.

I liked how Red Faction, Doom, Half Life and Halo were all 1st person games, and I enjoyed all their stories and felt impacted by most of them, so why do they have to be in third person in order to be more valid over first person?.

Whenever I play 2077 it's 95% spent in 1st person mode, and some rare times when I'm in town, and the roads are narrow, only then will I go into 3rd person mode with a bike/car, but outside of those moments, I find myself immersed by simply driving in first person and getting out of my car/bike in the same mode (it actually feels jarring to go from a 3rd person camera angle in games, straight into a first person one shortly after, and 2077 feels much like that).

Yea hopefully AMD can get some wins cause so far, this year looks like a dud for PC gaming in general.

Zen 4 = Barely faster than 5800X3D while requiring expensive platform upgrade.
Raptor Lake = Cheaper than Zen 4 but still barely faster than X3D but on a dead platform
Arc = Great price, shat drivers
4080 12 and 16GB = Clown
4090 = Massive improvements for $1600

If RDNA 3 doesn't do anything interesting, what a shit year

Quick question: Do we know the purported TBP of AMD's upcoming GPUs from some leaks or are those still up in the air?

Bolded: At least GPU prices for RX 6000 and RTX 3000 have come down to below MSRP now in most cases, sometimes much so. Considering where the prices were even just half a year ago, I consider this a big win for 2022.

Friday news, part two:

Todd Howard says Starfield's character traits 'are something you can solve' if you get tired of them
https://www.pcgamer.com/todd-howard-says-starfields-character-traits-are-something-you-can-solve-if-you-get-tired-of-them/
Bethesda's been talking quite a bit about Starfield in its recent chats with, um, itself. In a Q&A with community director Jess Finster, Bethesda Softworks executive producer Todd Howard shed some light on the game's character trait system, including the ways that players can choose to remove those traits if they get tired of them.

Splash Damage's party shooter Outcasters will be left to die with Stadia
https://www.pcgamer.com/splash-damages-party-shooter-outcasters-will-be-left-to-die-with-stadia/
It was a surprise all around when Google announced in September that the streaming games service Stadia will be closed in early 2023. Developers have scrambled to come up with solutions for Stadia players: The Stadia launch title Gylt, for instance, is finally going to other platforms, while CD Projekt recently told Cyberpunk 2077 players how they can move their Stadia saves to other platforms.
But at least one game will not make the transition: Outcasters, the eight-player party shooter released by Splash Damage in December 2020. The studio initially said it needed "a couple of days to evaluate the options for Outcasters moving forward" following the Stadia closure announcement, and with that time taken it has decided to let the game die.

The PC's most infamously complex game gets a tutorial after 16 years
https://www.pcgamer.com/the-pcs-most-infamously-complex-game-gets-a-tutorial-after-16-years/
It's been delightful watching the graphical version of Dwarf Fortress inch its way towards release. Things that we'd take for granted in most games are little thrills for Dwarf Fortress players: stuff like cute pixel art and mouse support and tabs will all make the game easier to play and parse than its old keyboard-only ASCII interface. Now, wonder of wonders, one of the most intimidating computer games ever made is getting a tutorial. What wild idea will they think of next?
"Dwarf Fortress has the well-earned title of being one of the most torturous games to learn," co-creator Zach Adams wrote in the latest Steam update. "There is a lot going on, even after we changed all the ridiculous keyboard commands and replaced the Matrix-like interface with some understandable, and awesome, pixel art. It still needs something. Something to ease the need to head straight to a wiki just to understand what's going on. The answer is the tutorial of course."

Star Trek: Resurgence is delayed until April 2023
https://www.pcgamer.com/star-trek-resurgence-is-delayed-until-april-2023/
Senior editor Wes Fenlon mostly liked what he saw when he got a brief look at Star Trek: Resurgence earlier this year, mainly because it evoked all that old-time Star Trek bullshit we know and love: Technobabble and simplistic outer-space diplomacy. It's "the first Trek anything to capture the spirit of the '90s shows in a long, long time," he wrote, a statement that, for me at least, makes the game immediately appealing.
Unfortunately, the rest of us are going to wait longer than expected to sample its sci-fi pleasures, because developer Dramatic Labs has elected to delay its release into 2023.

Activision Blizzard is facing another sexual harassment lawsuit
https://www.pcgamer.com/activision-blizzard-is-facing-another-sexual-harassment-lawsuit/
Activision Blizzard is facing yet another sexual harassment lawsuit, this one filed by a former employee who alleges that her manager at the company engaged in "sexist and harassing conduct" against her for years after she was hired, threatened her job if she refused to consent to sex, and even threatened to reveal a "compromising photo" she'd shared with him years earlier—and that Activision Blizzard management was aware of the situation but did nothing to address it.

No More Heroes 1 and 2 are finally getting fixed on PC
https://www.pcgamer.com/no-more-heroes-1-and-2-are-finally-getting-fixed-on-pc/
No More Heroes 1 and 2 will be getting fixes for their beleaguered PC ports soon, publisher XSEED has announced.
In a Steam discussion notice, XSEED's community development manager Luke Brown stated "We are very much aware of the issues affecting this title since launch, and after over a year of trying to develop patches, we can report that we have brought the effort to address these issues in-house". XSEED then apologised for the delay and lack of communication, stating it would "provide further information as soon as we are confident that we have patches in releasable shape".

Modern Warfare 2's SMS verification system is for PC players only, but you might not have to do it
https://www.pcgamer.com/modern-warfare-2s-sms-verification-system-is-for-pc-players-only-but-you-might-not-have-to-do-it/
A new update from COD's Ricochet Anti-Cheat Team is trying to soothe players who are worried about Modern Warfare 2's SMS verification requirement. The post from Team Ricochet confirms that Modern Warfare 2 players on PC will need a "text-enabled mobile phone number" to verify their accounts and play the game, but it's very specific about that PC part: players on consoles won't have to verify themselves via SMS at all.
But even for us PC players, Team Ricochet says the requirement won't affect people who have already verified themselves for Call of Duty: Warzone. (...)

Valve just filed a new 'computer game software' trademark and the rumours are already flying
https://www.pcgamer.com/valve-just-filed-a-new-computer-game-software-trademark-and-the-rumours-are-already-flying/
Gosh, but isn't Valve busy at the moment? Between the Steam Deck, VR stuff, and even overhauling Steam's long-neglected mobile app, you'd be forgiven for thinking the company had enough going on that it wouldn't feel the need to spin up new projects. And you'd be wrong, because a new trademark that Valve applied for on October 10 has unintentionally announced the existence of something called Neon Prime.

https://www.pcgamer.com/heres-what-to-expect-from-sins-of-a-solar-empire-2-early-access-on-october-27/
Sins of a Solar Empire 2 developer Ironclad Games and publisher Stardock Entertainment have confirmed that the 4X RTS will launch in early access via the Epic Games Store on October 27. We already had a pretty good idea of the date, since Epic included it on the store page last month, but now we know what it will actually contain.

And these are the GOG and Steam deals for the weekend:

And just like that, we've reached the end of the news. Until next time, I wish you a happy and gaming weekend.

I'll answer for Yuri: the Enermax PSU calculator gave away some details about them and Yuri posted it a few days ago. You'¡ll find it here: https://videocardz.com/newz/enermax-psu-calculator-already-mentions-unreleased-radeon-rx-7000xt-and-geforce-rtx-40-gpus

Sadly, there's not too different from the Nvidia numbers, even if we only have data of one card.
