2020 PTSD coming back

My plan was to get a new PC and VR equipment two years ago, but then the whole price thing happened, and now I'm not so sure about the future of VR anymore... It's looking more and more Meta-centric, which I dislike, and the VR market doesn't seem to be moving very quickly either at the moment, so I'm not sure it would be a good investment anyway. That is, now it's more about getting a new PC and considering VR equipment (yeah, still using the same PC, with a minor GPU upgrade).

I am as pro VR as anyone and still think there going to be a bright future for it but I completely understand why you would avoid it for now. Even I don't spend that much time playing games in it anymore. Half-life: Alyx was release over 2 years ago and still nothing since have matched it. Bone Labs have some potential once the moding community have a chance to start releasing stuff for it but that more for the potential mods the campaign no way close to competing with half life.

I do still use my VR headset almost everyday but that for cardio exercise as I find it the most enjoyable way to get a cardio exercise in for my self. My headset a bit overkill for that use but I cant bring my self to give facebook money and there no other decent standalone ones out so I just keep using my Vive Pro 2 for that also.

If I was looking at the market today I also would prioritize a new computer and once a new VR headset on PC releases that actually look solid then I would jump.

No shit its not like youd want a 4080

Maybe it’ll turn out that those who disagree with you actually have a solid grasp of the facts. There’s a slight possibility that, after all, you’re the one who’s wrong.

I do hope 4090s don't go out of stock tomorrow or if they do, they come back in stock soon enough after and stay in stock. Cause if a $1600 GPU goes out of stock, I fear for the future of PC gaming lol.

Dat power efficiency:

This is such a weird test.

It doesn't really show us anything except how much power a GPU needs to draw for a fixed 90FPS. Of course the more powerful a GPU is, the less it needs to work to keep that FPS target. As such, this doesn't show us anything on efficiency at all unless you want to play games that could reach 100+ fps with VSync enforced...

If it's gonna be like this for the new gen, yeah, high end PC gaming gonna be fucked for another decade, at this rate.

Who knew the 1% in the GPU sector could fuck over the rest lol, it's like the rich being rich fucking over the middle class and poor once again.

I suppose it's just a way to easily compare power efficiency without being bottlenecked by other components.

Very crudely speaking of course, since it's just one game and leakage will make the lower temperature card look relatively better in the picture.

I think the key will be the 4080 sales more so than anything. If people buy those, then we are truly fucked.
