What happens when you move two process nodes (away from crappy Samsung) in one generation. Really impressive stuff though and a great leap from the 3090/Ti. Expected to see way worse power draw, so surprisingly good to see them not chugging down the power. The only downer is the steep asking price.

It's certainly very efficient and uses less power than those 600W that we saw mentioned in rumors and feared, but it's still a 400-450W card for gaming.

Overall it's an incredible feat, an amazing card for those that game at 4K and have the resources for it.

Also, let's take a moment of silence for those that bought a 3090Ti. They've become a laughing stock.

I think CGI from this site may have bought one lol rip

^^ The 3090 Ti was always a bad choice - worst bang for the buck in the market and Turing/Navi-tier efficiency despite being a full node below.

A true successor to Vega...

Indeed. And yet some went a got one even at scalper prices.

Maybe that will teach them a lesson, but I doubt it.

Well, he has the "I also use it for work" excuse. But yeah, not the best investment.

Yeah really impressive jump. Bother in Raster and RT and actually makes 4K with all bells and whistles while maintaining FPS a reality. Going to be king in RT for a long time as well. Still interested to see how lower end SKUs and RDNA 3 cards perform as I'm not going for the highest end card.

The writing was on the wall for a long time, with all the Ada rumors and imminent release. Still can't imagine spending upwards of $1500 on a card based on a 2YO architecture and loosing over 50% value in several months in resale. And superseded completely.

Indeed, the 4090 will be the RT king for the foreseeable future, or until Nvidia launches the 4090Ti.

And well, some people just have to have the latest and best available, they can't can't settle for anything less than that. A shame for them, but a good source of laughs (and also a bit of envy, let's be honest) for us.

Facebook has gone mad

No one interested in VR gaming should even consider this headset.  Only people that should buy this is creators/businesses that have a professional reason to get it.

In my opinion the PC VR space for gamers is in a wait and see phase.  It hard to recommend anyone go out and buy a PC only VR headset right now given it cost and that I think we are one or two years away from some next generation options.

Don't get me wrong I love my Vive Pro 2 but it just hard to recommend someone spending well over 1000 on it or similar ones today till we have a better idea what will be available between 2023-2025.

For people on a tight budget that want to experience VR for first time I guess I recommend Quest 2 even through it pains me to do so.  You can use it as a standalone or connect it to PC if you got a decent one for better graphics.

For better VR experience even through software might be limited compare to something that support steamVR or Meta store I would wait for the PS VR2 especially if you own a PS5 already.  Need official reviews but on paper it looking really good on hardware side.

For high end PC I really hoping VALVE come out with the rumor Deckard as I think that could bring some new life to PC VR.  I don't expect that till 2024 through so going to be a bit of wait.  The perfect alliance to me would be for Sony and Valve to make a deal where Valve will fund more first party VR games like Half Life alyx which still best VR game out there and they are timed exclusive PC then they come to the PlayStation and the reverse is true that Sony made VR game with be timed exclusive on PlayStation then come to SteamVR on PC.

Yea personally, I haven't been all that interested in VR since its inception. While I like the premise, with the current tech and pricing, it doesn't feel like it's worth it. I did buy Oculus rift back in the day and outside of a few games and lots and lots of porn, I never really used it. They would need some ground breaking game for me to invest into one regardless of price.

I approach anything Meta with a huge dose of skepticism, but the brief demo at 4:27 does actually look promising. Eye and face tracking may be the next big leaps for VR/AR alongside finger tracking. Would certainly make them more social and less isolating.

EDIT: 1-2 hour battery life yikes.

I was briefly interested in VR and was going to probably get a Quest 2 but they killed that interest when they raised the price for no good reason.

Back to "wait and see" mode until further notice.
