Decided to give F76 a go, since it's been yrs and it's been on the cheap:

NPC's still walking into the ground/ghosting up from the ground lol. There's still NPC's walking around with no audible dialogue at all (like the one random trader who ghosted up inside my house and used my workbench while not talking to me at all).

Also this is still a thing with their engine, the stupid bloom:

Despite me still using an i7-6700k (slight OC), 16gb DDR4 and a 1080ti (game on the highest R/W speed SSD), this game still looks like ass, runs like ass and still stutters, despite tweaks to CPU "intensive" settings and giving a bit more for the GPU side, it still only uses 40% of my GPU and 30% of my CPU...

This is why I'm not really hyped at all for Starfield, because it's still technically the same engine, and I really wish they would just drop it. As much as I hate Epic, I'd rather Beth use Unreal for their RPG's going forward, because the duct taped Gamebryo is older than some teens gaming today.

There is a mod to give better water and HD textures in general, but those files are 40gb and mod authors seem to have given up on updating those 1-2 yrs ago.

I'm glad I got this for a tenner, because if I'd bought this at full price, it'd be instant refund.

Step right up come on in, feel the buzz in your veins, I'm like an chemical electrical right into your brain and I'm the one who killed the Radio, soon you'll all see

AMD has released new drivers for GPUs it no longer supports
https://www.pcgamer.com/uk/amd-has-released-new-drivers-for-gpus-it-no-longer-supports/
AMD moved a good chunk of its graphics cards to a "legacy support model" just over a year ago. You can pretty much read "legacy support model" as stopped supporting them, in fact AMD literally said: "No additional driver releases are planned to support these graphics products." But out of nowhere, it has released a new driver for its legacy cards. You can grab it from its site if you have an older graphics card that has found its way onto the legacy GPU list.
It's worth noting that the Adrenaline Edition 22.6.1 drivers are all over the place when it comes to operating system support. When it first dropped it was only available for Windows 10 64-bit, but now that's been extended to Windows 7 64-bit, too. 32-bit operating systems are right out, and seemingly so is Windows 8 on all counts.

The latest Windows 11 update fixes game crash woes for some users

An optional Windows 11 update addresses a handful of issues for some users who are experiencing game crashes or are unable to upgrade to the latest version of Windows 11. It's part of the June 2022 monthly updates for Insiders, who can check out the fix before it's released en masse on July 12th for all.

Epic Games Store introduces rating system designed to stop review-bombing
https://www.pcgamer.com/uk/epic-games-store-introduces-rating-system-designed-to-stop-review-bombing/
The Epic Games Store is improving its functionality over time, and now it's going to wade into the treacherous waters of user reviews. A recent update has added ratings and polls to the store, which players will see at intervals after playing games, and the information gathered here will be used to populate a game's store page with more information about it.
The most notable element of this update is how Epic has designed the functionality around the problem of co-ordinated behaviour. Customer reviews are now as important if not more so than those of professional critics, across many fields, but online dynamics can see them used in unintended ways.

Fallout 4’s DLC-sized Mod, Fallout London, gets a new in-engine trailer
https://www.dsogaming.com/videotrailer-news/fallout-4s-dlc-sized-mod-fallout-london-gets-a-new-in-engine-trailer/
The modding team behind the DLC-sized mod for Fallout 4, Fallout London, has released a brand new in-engine trailer. According to the team, this video and announcement were put together to support the Fallout For Hope Initiative.
Fallout: London is an ambitious DLC-sized mod that brings the player into the nuclear apocalypse all the way to the doorsteps of Parliament. This is a Total Conversion mod that aims to encapsulate the gritty, adventurous nature of the Fallout games with a new world, factions, storylines, NPCs, weapons, creatures, and much more.

Half-Life Alyx No VR Mod looks better than ever, new gameplay video
https://www.dsogaming.com/videotrailer-news/half-life-alyx-no-vr-mod-looks-better-than-ever-new-gameplay-video/
It’s been a while since our last look at the No VR Mod for Half-Life Alyx. And last month, SoMNst released a brand new gameplay video for it, showcasing its progress. Therefore, and since it’s the weekend, I’ve decided to share this video with you.
As the title suggests, this mod attempts to make Half-Life Alyx playable on non-VR devices. It’s still a WIP project and, unfortunately, there isn’t any preview or experimental version to download yet.

Far Cry: Rework is another cool mod for Crytek’s classic shooter
https://www.dsogaming.com/news/far-cry-rework-is-another-cool-mod-for-cryteks-classic-shooter/
Modder ‘-SX-‘ is currently working on a brand new mod for Crytek’s classic shooter, Far Cry. This is the third major mod that is in development for the first Far Cry game, and below you can find its full details (as well as a gameplay video).
Far Cry: Rework will have the same visual environmental style as the game’s beta version. It will also have increased draw distance, some new vegetation from Far Cry 2010, a new fog effect for the jungle, and new terrain textures with better bump, displacement and specular maps. Players can also expect some new objects, better water shaders, some upscaled textures, new rocks, and CookiePLMonster’s Silent Patch.
As the modder noted, this won’t be a remake or remaster mod. Instead, think of it as an Enhanced Edition of the Steam version. Therefore, don’t expect any MAJOR graphical improvements. While the Far Cry: Rework will look better than the vanilla version, it won’t implement any modern-day features.

Brutal Doom: Black Edition brings Doom 3’s art style to classic Doom
https://www.dsogaming.com/mods/brutal-doom-black-edition-brings-doom-3s-art-style-to-classic-doom/
Blackmore1014, Iddqd_Idkfa_Idclip, Doomsmile, Bifurcator and Vsonnier have released a brand new version of Brutal Doom: Black Edition. Brutal Doom: Black Edition is described as a dark, serious, realistic and “meaningful” vision of the original Brutal Doom.
Black Edition combines large battles and speed of classic Doom with the dark and atmospheric aesthetic of Doom 3. It also packs the dynamics of modern stuff found in Doom 2016.
The modders also claim that the mod focuses on diversity. However, it takes care of preserving the original style and atmosphere of the original Doom I/II.

Final Fantasy XIV gets a 31GB HD Texture Pack, overhauling all of its monsters
https://www.dsogaming.com/mods/final-fantasy-xiv-gets-a-31gb-hd-texture-pack-overhauling-all-of-its-monsters/
Modder ‘kartoffel’ has released a pretty interesting HD Texture Pack for Final Fantasy XIV. As the title suggests, this pack is 31GB in size (when unpacked) and improves the textures of all monsters.
According to the modder, this pack improves the textures of all entities in /chara/monster except for: minions and pets, mounts, ornaments – fashion accessories.

This mod turns Stellaris into the Mass Effect strategy game you've dreamed of
https://www.pcgamer.com/uk/this-mod-turns-stellaris-into-the-mass-effect-strategy-game-youve-dreamed-of/
If, like me, you've always wanted to see a more strategic, zoomed-out take on the Mass Effect setting, you're in luck: the Binary Helix mod group (cheekily named for a genetic engineering corporation in Mass Effect) is creating the Beyond the Relays project for Stellaris—a total conversion of the space strategy sim to the Mass Effect setting.
Stellaris has a history of great total conversion mods, with previous efforts bringing Star Trek and Warhammer 40K to life in the setting. Additionally, talented modders have, in the past, made individual addons based on Mass Effect to Stellaris, but Beyond the Relays looks to recreate the entire setting down to its political climate and rules of space travel.

Bungie slaps YouTube takedown impersonator with $7.6M lawsuit
https://www.pcgamer.com/uk/bungie-slaps-youtube-takedown-impersonator-with-dollar76m-lawsuit/
Back in March, a wave of bizarre copyright strikes rocked the Destiny 2 community. Not only did it affect some of the game's biggest content creators, but also videos on Bungie's own YouTube channel.
It turned out none of them had actually come from the developer but a "bad actor" impersonating two employees from the CSC, Bungie's IP protection agency of choice. Now, that person has allegedly been identified and Bungie's suing them for a whopping $7.6 million. Ouch.

Into the Breach is getting a free Advanced Edition expansion
https://www.pcgamer.com/uk/into-the-breach-is-getting-a-free-advanced-edition-expansion/
Into the Breach is a turn-based tactics game about mechs and bugs developed by Subset Games, the makers of the outstanding sci-fi adventure-sim FTL. And it's even more outstanding: We said Into the Breach delivers "the most perfectly formed tactics" experience in our 93% review, and then selected it as our Ultimate Game of the Year for 2018.
On July 19 it will get even better with the release of Into the Breach: Advanced Edition, which will expand the original game with five new mech squads and nearly 40 new weapons, additional enemies, bosses, and mission objectives, and new pilots and pilot abilities. The Advanced Edition will also feature a new, "Unfair" difficulty mode, support for seven additional languages (Arabic, Thai, Swedish, Korean, Traditional Chinese, Turkish, and Spanish), and two new tracks from composer Ben Prunty.

Dragon's Dogma is dirt cheap following the sequel announcement
https://www.pcgamer.com/uk/dragons-dogma-is-dirt-cheap-following-the-sequel-announcement/
After 10 long years of watching people ask for a sequel to Dragon's Dogma, Capcom finally made it happen last week: Announcing Dragon's Dogma 2, appropriately enough, at the end of a 10-year anniversary mini-doc for the original.
(...)
The game received a director's cut edition called Dark Arisen (which players universally agree is an improvement on the beloved original) and now, presumably thanks to the proximity of the sequel announcement, Capcom has dropped its price through the floor as part of the Steam Summer Sale: The RRP is $30/£24, but Dragon's Dogma: Dark Arisen can now be yours for the princely sum of $4.79/£3.83. That's a roughly 85% discount.
>> SteamDB agrees with this article. It never went below (or above) 70% off, so this is its lowest price ever on Steam.

https://www.pcgamer.com/uk/the-best-milsim-fps-just-got-its-biggest-update-ever/
Squad, the tactical FPS that's basically Battlefield with logistics, is slowly growing. Almost two years after leaving early access, the underrated military sim is still getting substantial updates. But apparently not, because Elden Ring director Hidetaka Miyazaki recently told Japanese site 4Gamer (via Gematsu) that the studio's next game is in the "final stages" of development.

Sovietcore FPS Hrot launches second episode, 'The Degustation'
https://www.pcgamer.com/uk/sovietcore-fps-hrot-launches-second-episode-the-degustation/
Hrot is a grim experience, with developer Spytihněv stating of its Czechoslovakia, 1986 setting: "Those times were dark and terrifying and so is this game." That's what makes its bone-dry sense of humor land so well.
Right at the start of the game's second episode, before encountering any enemies, you find an interactable object on the ground: it's a game-within-a-game, a Soviet knockoff Game & Watch where you guide a little cartoon wolf collecting eggs rolling down from hens. Then the bloody cultist murder starts.

Gordian Quest is a deckbuilding RPG inspired by the genre classics
https://www.pcgamer.com/uk/gordian-quest-is-a-deckbuilding-rpg-inspired-by-the-genre-classics/
Card-based deckbuilding RPG Gordian Quest has just recently left Early Access, reaching a version 1.0 after a few years of development that saw it journey from a just-ok card RPG to one that floats near the top of the pack. Not just my opinion, either, since Gordian Quest sits at 92% positive Steam reviews on a total of 3,461 as I write this.

This year's strategy RPG hotness might just be Symphony of War: The Nephilim Saga
https://www.pcgamer.com/uk/this-years-strategy-rpg-hotness-might-just-be-symphony-of-war-the-nephilim-saga/
If you had any doubt as to whether a game was a strategy-focused roleplaying game, a JRPG in the style of Fire Emblem or Ogre Battle, I can bet you'd be clear that it is when I tell you it's called Symphony of War: The Nephilim Saga. Preposterously grandiose name aside, this indie could be game of the year material if you're a fan of the genre.

Blade Runner: Enhanced Edition updated with the un-enhanced edition on Steam after awful reception
https://www.pcgamer.com/uk/blade-runner-enhanced-edition-updated-with-the-un-enhanced-edition-on-steam-after-awful-reception/
Blade Runner: Enhanced Edition released last week on Steam and GOG, and anticipation for a visual remaster of arguably Westwood's greatest game was high... well, at least in the PCG offices. Sadly, the truth is it's more of a disaster than a remaster.
Nightdive had been working on this for a while, though one big complication was no-one being able to find the original source code. The ScummVM version, created by a team of volunteers in 2019, sadly remains the best way to play this seminal title; which is a problem, because the release of the Enhanced Edition saw the original removed from GOG and bundled-in with the new one.
The OG version wasn't available on Steam at all but, following the Enhanced Edition's reception (it's currently sitting on 'Mostly Negative' reviews) Nightdive has now added it to the Steam version.

Sonic Origins co-developer is 'very unhappy' about the state of it

Unfortunately since its release last week, forums and social media have seen a wave of videos showing the game's bugs, glitches, and general messiness.

Nethack is now in the Museum of Modern Art
https://www.pcgamer.com/uk/nethack-is-now-in-the-museum-of-modern-art/
Nethack is one of the great (and ongoing) gaming projects. It first appeared in 1987 as a fork of a 1982 title, Hack, created by Mike Stephenson, Izchak Miller and Janet Walz. The game operated on an open source principle, where anyone was free to create their own version, but only the members of the DevTeam could change the main source code.
Over time the DevTeam grew with skilled coders from the community and, after more than three decades, has had an unknown number of members. They seem to like the mystery. Over its lifetime NetHack has grown and grown in complexity, somehow juggling its hundreds of emergent elements together, with the DevTeam held up as collective coding gods by the game's devoted community. Browse the NetHack forums and even now you may well come across the initialism TDTTOE: The DevTeam Thinks of Everything.

Apple’s entry-level MacBook Pro M2 has slower SSD speeds than its M1 counterpart

https://www.theverge.com/2022/6/27/23184515/apple-macbook-pro-m2-slow-ssd-speeds

Lol Apple. The biggest kicker with the way they are launching the M2 is that M1 on the Macbook Air already thermal throttles when you do things that are intensive since it's fanless. Now with the M2 being higher wattage, it will thermal throttle even more when you push it. On top of that, you now get a slower SSD. As usual, other than buying the Air for web browsing, the only real Macbooks to get are the much more expensive Pros.

AMD Radeon RX 7000 Graphics Cards With Rearchitected RDNA 3 GPU Compute Units To Deliver Enhanced Ray Tracing Capabilities & Even Higher Clock Speeds

https://wccftech.com/amd-rdna-3-gpu-radeon-rx-7000-enhanced-raytracing-capbilities-higher-clocks-av1-dp-2-0-support/

Which of course makes sense. The question is how much better will the Ray Tracing be. With nearly every triple A game coming out with Ray Tracing support and even older games having Ray Tracing being added, it is no longer a minor feature but rather, a feature that will define the generation. AMD really cannot afford to produce another RDNA 2 vs Ampere situation so hopefully, RDNA 3 is much faster than Ampere when it comes to Ray Tracing otherwise this will be a repeat of GCN. You can already see this from AMD's current GPU market share being still being less than 20%.

I'd take it as poor wording from Atlus, with them going with the more general terms of Windows to refer to the whole PC stores rather than listing them all.

After all, they're not stupid (tho you could think so given how long it took them to release their games on PC) and know that the version that will sell the most is the Steam one, and pissing off those customers is not a smart business decision.

Fall Guys went free to play last week, a change that also saw it leave Steam and become an Epic Games Store exclusive. Despite that change in storefronts, the Fall Guys player count on Steam saw a huge spike too—nearly five times as many concurrent players at its peak as in the previous month. Unsurprisingly, it's also doing pretty well on Epic, which set a new record for active players on June 21, the day Fall Guys went free.

The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim is over a decade old, but remains by a distance the most popular title on mod database NexusMods. The fact it's been out so long also means that most of the things you could think of doing with it have already happened, and so you get some slightly unusual stuff in these twilight years. My eyebrows raised a little when I saw tens of thousands of people downloading a mod to upgrade its cage models to 4K.
4K? Lol, says the group of modders behind one of Skyrim's latest mods, and lmao. Creators wrig675, XilaMonstrr and I2edShift are behind the snappily named 'Bellyaches 16K-8K Dragon Replacer Pack', which retextures all dragons in vanilla Skyrim, "now cleaned of compression artifacts and upscaled to a maximum of 8K resolution. Original textures were BC3 compression and a ix of 1K, 2K and 4K resolution. Now they're in 4K, 8K and 16K resolution, with BC3 compression and full mipmaps."

Tuesday news, the short part two:

Hearthstone's next expansion will ask the players whodunnit
https://www.pcgamer.com/uk/hearthstones-next-expansion-will-ask-the-players-whodunnit/
Hearthstone, like most trading card games, is fundamentally about throwing down monsters and crashing their stats into each other. (It's also a game about making your opponent tilt off the face off the Earth by dealing a bazillion damage from hand, but that's a longer article.) So it continues to amuse me how the designers are able to come up with convoluted thematic reasons for that stat crashing, be it yearlong narratives about a plucky band of Mercenaries or, more recently, a journey to the bottom of the sea to be menaced by the fish folk.

More evidence that Skull and Bones is a videogame that will someday see the light of day has surfaced in the form of an official Entertainment Software Rating Board listing. The M (Mature 17+) listing doesn't contain a date, but it does actually exist, and that's a big step in its own right.

The showrunner and lead villain of Amazon's superhero spoof series The Boys are eager to have it made into a videogame—and they want none other than Metal Gear and Death Stranding mastermind Hideo Kojima to make it happen.
The idea came up over the weekend, when Kojima revealed that he'd actually been conceptualizing a dark superhero game of his own, but opted to shelve it after seeing The Boys.
