State of Play returns next Wednesday

https://blog.playstation.com/2021/10/22/state-of-play-returns-next-wednesday/

There's sometimes PC content so...

GoW (PC) will probably be shown there and I'm going to take a wild guess that Bloodborne remaster will make an appearance. Hopefully we get an actual release date for Ragnarok as well.

Meh, the video is an opinion piece more so than actual testing and to be fair, it's not like getting a 6800XT for $400 less than a 3080 is a bad thing by any means. For his needs and his subjective opinion, it's perfectly fine. Heck, he even says he would rather have a 3080 if it were the same price. If I were in his situation, I wouldn't be paying $400 more for a 3080 either (not that I would have jumped on a 6800XT but I am not playing at 4k either).

At the end of the day, AMD GPUs only gives you some features where as Nvidia GPUs will give you all the features which is why it's easier to recommend. You like FSR over DLSS? Nvidia has FSR and DLSS so you aren't limited to one or the other. You don't like Ray Tracing? Nvidia has great Raster performance as well but will smoke AMD in those games where you may want to turn it on one day. You do content creation? Nvidia has you covered.

But in todays market where the prices are all over the place, you do need to take into account a number of things and what matters to you because these GPUs ain't cheap.

I still can't shake off the feeling like he's willingly stockholmed himself. Like when you really think about it, (esp with the pros you had in your post) the only thing AMD has going for it is the price and half of FSR. I know they have some features, but I'm an all or nothing kind of guy, and being on PC, I'd want access to all those features.

Prices atm suck for a lot of people, as well as availability, but the guy sounds like he chose based on price and tossed full bias into the mix (he could have simply said "can't get no cards, AMD is all I got left", and that would have sufficed for the entire video).

Well, he said raytracing doesn't interest him right now with the current hardware on the market and it's limitations (even under NVidia), and considering he prefers FSR over DLSS, there's not much left where NVidia is truly better for his use scenario. The encoding could be done at a lower bitrate, but other than that, there's not really much of advantage for him if he chose NVidia.

I also agree with that guy on the software. I was used AMD software for many years until I got an NVidia GPU in my laptop and I found it infuriating compared to the easiness that the AMD software provided, so much so that I try to deal with it as little as possible. But maybe it's just because I'm more used to have everything neatly packed in one program...

You could apply his logic to before RT and before whatever tech was on the market and being made a fuss about, therefore making AMD the only purchase to ever go for and never Nvidia, because stuff isn't there yet (which happens a lot in this industry more than you think).

I honestly don't have many issues with GFE. I used to when it started out because it was barebones and ultra basic and used up more processes and memory, but now that's changed and they offer me more features to make use of (like shadowplay, screenshotting that I can manipulate on the fly, tuning my games with one click or a profile preference of my own choosing, being able to stream, noise cancelling tech, webcam greenscreen tech etc).

Like I know we're going through pros and cons here, but for the longest time, neither AMD nor Nvidia have been equals, let alone equal for a long time before the scales tip. Atm Nvidia has great features and tech going for it, while AMD is having to play catch up for half, but again their prices are still more tame than Nvidia's, but to me that doesn't exactly balance the scales, because why go for something cheap that is also lacking? (this is why I chose PC in the end over consoles because I wanted the best options available to me, otherwise I would have stayed with consoles because of the "neat package").

I just see the dude semi stockholming himself, and I can almost guarantee you that he's going to wait it out for as long as possible and come back at us with "see, told ya it was the best choice". Like I'd want him to at least wait things out and see what happens, see a good possible switch-up, instead of everyone's typical "gonna dig my feet into this spot and not move because these benefits will come to me sooner or later".

Step right up come on in, feel the buzz in your veins, I'm like an chemical electrical right into your brain and I'm the one who killed the Radio, soon you'll all see

Well, at least Blizzard didn't go with Butch, to avoid other kind of troubles.

And forget the comparison with the 5600X, that chip allegedly beats the 11900K! Crazy if true.

Hopefully it's very legit and Intel is able to leap frog AMD. We have seen what happens with AMD is in the lead and we have also seen what happens when Intel is in the lead. Both are shit companies. We need them to leap frog one another to keep things in check.

Indeed. Imagine what could happen if the leap frogging also happened with the GPUs.

McCree was named after a now ex-developers at Blizzard, and he's been included in the harassment lawsuit against them. That's why they're changing the name, to avoid any references to him even thought most players have no idea where the name came from.
