Windows 10 May 2019 Update causes crashes/freezing issues on AMD Ryzen CPUs, bypass/workaround found
https://www.dsogaming.com/news/windows-10-may-2019-update-causes-crashes-freezing-issues-on-amd-ryzen-cpus-bypass-workaround-found/
It appears that the May 2019 Update for Windows 10 is causing some crashing/freezing issues on PC systems that are equipped with AMD’s Ryzen and Threadripper CPUs. According to reports, these freezing issues are due to compatibility issues between the update and RAID drivers.
Going into more details, the May 2019 Update installation freezes on these PC systems with AMD’s aforementioned processors as there’s a compatibility issue between the RAID drivers and the update.
Thankfully, a bypass/workaround has been discovered so we suggesting using it if you own an AMD Ryzen or Threadripper CPU, and want to update to the latest version of Windows 10.
All you have to do is download and install the latest RAID driver from here, version 9.2.0.105, before applying/installing the May 2019 Update.
>> I'm posting this in case someone has found this issue.

Unreal Engine’s member ‘The_Distiller’ has released a brand new cute DXR real-time ray tracing tech demo. The_Distiller has used the latest version of Unreal Engine 4, version 4.22, in order to create a playable demo that showcases the ray tracing capabilities of Epic’s engine.
For the setting The_Distiller chose a miniature film set, built by an amateur filmmaker in the 70’s, shooting a scene for a vintage sci-fi movie in the vein of “War of the Worlds” and alike.

MODS/EMULATORS
The Playstation 4 emulator, Orbital, supports the DualShock 4 controller, progresses further on Safe Mode
https://www.dsogaming.com/videotrailer-news/the-playstation-4-emulator-orbital-supports-the-dualshock-4-controller-progresses-further-on-safe-mode/
Alexandro Sanchez has shared a new video for the first Playstation 4 emulator that is currently under development, Orbital. While the emulator is nowhere close to playing or running any PS4 game, it now supports the official Sony DualShock 4 controller, and progresses further on the Safe Mode menus.
In case you weren’t aware of, Orbital is the first dedicated Playstaion 4 emulator for Windows and Linux. Advanced users can go ahead and download an old version of Orbital from here. Do note though that there aren’t any binaries, meaning that you must build each of the three components (BIOS, GRUB, QEMU) yourselves. Furthermore, configuring the emulator to do something will be hard, as you will need to dump and decrypt the entire PS4 filesystem and sflash, including the kernel.

https://www.dsogaming.com/videotrailer-news/here-are-tomb-raider-2-jurassic-park-trespasser-with-reshade-ray-tracing-path-tracing/
YouTube’s member ‘EiermannTelevision’ has shared two videos, showcasing Tomb Raider 2 and Jurassic Park Trespasser with the Reshade Ray Tracing/Path Tracing Global Illumination mod. Both of these games use a really old and outdated lighting system so these videos should give us an idea of what we can expect from older games using the new Reshade mod.
New trailer released for the Fallout 3 remake mod in Fallout 4, Fallout 4: Capital Wasteland
https://www.dsogaming.com/videotrailer-news/new-trailer-released-for-the-fallout-3-remake-mod-in-fallout-4-fallout-4-capital-wasteland/
The team behind a really ambitious mod for Fallout 4, Fallout 4: Capital Wasteland, has released a brand new trailer for it. Fallout 4: Capital Wasteland is a total conversion mod that aims to remake Fallout 3 in the Fallout 4 engine.
Fallout 4: Capital Wasteland promises to feature all the quests, dialogues and locations from Fallout 3, and the team will be experimenting with the newest weather options in Fallout 4’s Creation Engine to establish the same grimy and oppressive tone as the original game.
A modder is remaking Arx Fatalis in Unreal Engine 4 and it looks fantastic
https://www.pcgamer.com/a-modder-is-remaking-arx-fatalis-in-unreal-engine-4-and-it-looks-fantastic/
Arx Fatalis was Arkane Studios' first game, and was very much a sign of things to come. It was big, open, ambitious as hell, really good, and a sales flop. It's also very dated now—it was released in 2002—which makes going back to see what you missed something of a tough row to hoe. That may eventually change, though, thanks to the efforts Blackcatgame Studios, a one-man operation that recently teased a work-in-progress remake of the game in Unreal Engine 4.
The summary on ModDB describes the area seen in the videos as being from Level 11, the Human Kingdom village (although I think that's a typo since as far as I know that's on level 1), where players can wander around, talk with NPCs, and fight with guards. Obviously there's a long way to go before the job is done, and given that projects like this are typically both massive and unpaid undertakings, it may not ever be finished. But seeing that dingy settlement remade all shiny and new really kind of gets me right here.

Chris Avellone explains Fallout: New Vegas' abrupt ending
https://www.pcgamer.com/chris-avellone-explains-fallout-new-vegas-abrupt-ending/
Fallout: New Vegas is a great RPG with a not-so-great ending. You follow your heart, make your choices, and it all leads up to a grand finale slideshow that tells you how it all worked out. You can't even continue playing the game after the Super Slam at Hoover Dam. It wasn't always supposed to be like that, though: Chris Avellone, one of the writers on New Vegas, told Eurogamer that the original plan was to have post-game content that would give players the ability to explore the world after the credits had rolled.
>> To solve that, at least in part, there's the FPGE – Functional Post Game Ending mod.

Campaign gameplay director Jacob Minkoff confirmed with PlayStation Lifestyle that the rebooted Modern Warfare will not have a Zombies mode.
Warren Spector says balancing violence in System Shock 3 is 'very hard'
https://www.pcgamer.com/warren-spector-says-balancing-violence-in-system-shock-3-is-very-hard/
In an interview with VGC Spector said that reluctance to embrace violence has carried over into his work on System Shock 3. Assuming it's similar to the first two games, the new System Shock won't be a straight shooter, but there will be shooting, and plenty of evidence of violence—broken bodies, blood on walls, all that kind of good stuff—that's occurred prior to the player's arrival. That's presented something of a challenge for Spector, who joined developer Otherside Entertainment in 2016 to head up development of the game.

https://www.pcgamer.com/now-the-divinity-studio-is-teasing-us-with-calamari-and-kraken/
Yesterday, Larian's website was plastered with a big number three. That might cause one to assume the Divinity studio is about to announce Divinity: Original Sin 3 (or maybe even Divinity 3), but evidence actually points to something a little different. Poke around in the video file, and you'll find references to Baldur's Gate 3 and Wizards of the Coast. Today, Larian replaced that video with a new one featuring tentacles wrapping around the Roman numeral. Naturally, I immediately downloaded it and opened it in a text editor to hunt for more clues.

Sigil comprises nine new, labyrinthine levels for the original Doom. Each contains “more detail” than the levels in episodes 1-4, but Romero says they should feel like they “belong in the original game as if they were a true fifth episode”. They're playable in singleplayer, co-op and deathmatch.

Hitman 2's June roadmap includes the bank level, and more
https://www.pcgamer.com/hitman-2s-june-roadmap-includes-a-bank-level-and-more/
Hitman 2's June roadmap is here.
The bank level, revealed back in April, will be out on June 25 as part of the expansion pass along with two special assignments. As part of the Legacy Pack two of the previous game's elusive targets (the guru and the congressman) will be returning to Sapienza on June 7. Free to everyone will be a new escalation contract called The O'Leary Conflagration that's all about messing with Helen's Muffin Kitchen and will probably involving burning a whole lot of people to death. That's due on June 13, and will be followed on June 20 by another escalation called The Unpalatable Termination and new featured contracts with the theme of "Assassin's Greed". Performing them will unlock the handyman toolbox. June 27 brings yet another escalation, The Aquatic Retribution (a trip to the aquarium, apparently) and finally on June 29 there's another legacy elusive target: Mr. Giggles, the entertainer, will be back in Marrakesh.

The trailer for the Mortal Kombat 11 Kombat Pack is mostly focused on showing off Shang Tsung and his ability to shapeshift into a variety of palette-swap ninjas, which actually looks much cooler than I've just made it sound. The trailer also lists several other characters coming as part of the DLC—Sindel, Nightwolf, and comic book antihero Spawn—then mentions "two more guests will be revealed".

Development of Barkley 2 is in more trouble than anyone knew
https://www.pcgamer.com/development-of-barkley-2-is-in-more-trouble-than-anyone-knew/
Last time we checked in on Barkley 2 about 18 months ago our conclusion was that development was "still slowly grinding forward". It may be doing so even slower than we thought.
(...)
But now a former developer has posted on the Something Awful forums to explain that the project is in more trouble than anyone knew. Posting under the name Horatio, they wrote, "I was asked to join the project 3 years after the KS when the project had little money and was in shambles. I was committed to trying to finish the game but it was consistently set back by horrible management and I ended up quitting. The person who owns ToG and is running it now had nothing to do with Barkley 1 and has zero game dev experience. He is the ToG PR guy."
Sidescroller Seed Hunter pairs a roguelike with Monster Hunter-inspired weapons
https://www.pcgamer.com/sidescroller-seed-hunter-pairs-a-roguelike-with-monster-hunter-inspired-weapons/
Seed Hunter is the kind of game that makes you want to dodge roll a lot, because it feels good to quickly jump behind an enemy and lay into their back with a combo, and because the average boss is probably three times your size and holding an axe that could slice you to mincemeat. But it's also the kind of game that only lets you dodge three times in quick succession before waiting for a stamina meter to refill. Combat's fast, but you can't just mash and dodge your way through. You have to learn how your weapon moves to stay alive for long.

It's not uncommon for the Figueroa Hotel to get a makeover in the leadup to E3. In previous years it's been used to advertise Gwent, Grand Theft Auto 5, Star Wars: Battlefront 2 and Skyrim. Last year it was repainted with a Fallout 76 theme, but let's hope that hasn't cursed it or anything because this year it's being repainted in honor of the new Doom game.

Stalk a serial killer in a simulated city in the Deus Ex-like Shadows of Doubt
https://www.pcgamer.com/stalk-a-serial-killer-in-a-simulated-city-in-the-deus-ex-like-shadows-of-doubt/
One thing that keeps detective games from feeling authentic is that they tend to have traditional game limitations: there are only so many places you can go, only so many people you can talk to. Shadows of Doubt plans to fix that by building a fully simulated neo-noir city in which to track down a serial killer. Developer Cole Jefferies describes it as "A detective stealth game somewhere between Deus Ex and Sherlock Holmes: Consulting Detective!".

Finally, this means that a modern Android phone will have good graphics drivers!
As far as making GPUs "more efficient" is concerned, nah Samsung will probably just accept the architecture as is because one of the biggest benefits of AMD hardware is down to how easy it is to make high quality drivers for it and AMD is a testament to this considering their previously spotty track record ... (their GL drivers were unusable pre-GCN)
Samsung will probably just down clock them if they have to get a higher efficiency curve when the other players are a non-starter ...
Nvidia aren't interested in doing semi-custom plus given their poor history with past customers they must find Nvidia to have very egregious licensing terms. Nobody goes to Qualcomm for their graphics technology so they only exist to prop up their baseband technology such as LTE/5G modems or RF front-end modules and they have tons of anti-trust issues so Samsung probably just wants dump Qualcomm altogether once they roll out their own 5G modems. It's clear that both Nvidia and Qualcomm poses too many conflicts of interests to be of interest to be reliable suppliers for their customers ...
Similarly, nobody goes to ARM specifically for their GPUs but to license their CPU technology instead and PowerVR is irrelevant in today's world without Apple being their customer. When half (Nvidia/Qualcomm) of the potential suppliers are acting in bad faith and 3 out of 4 of them (ARM/PowerVR/Qualcomm) have bad drivers then an outside alternative (AMD) by comparison are licensing their designs for chum change while providing good drivers as well makes it an easy decision!
It'll be interesting to see AMD deploying Android graphics drivers and see the quality of their implementation comparison to other godforsaken mobile graphics hardware vendors. Will be extremely curious if AMD will also provide OpenGL ES drivers which are far easier make compared to regular OpenGL or if they'll just use a translation layer in place like ANGLE ...

The license agreement seems to stipulate that the I.P sharing goes both ways.
In Samsungs case it's probably extremely valuable as it gives access to AMD's entire warchest of graphics I.P that dates back decades.
As for GL drivers and AMD, they have certainly have had rough patches... And certainly trailed nVidia at certain points, but starting with R300, I never had to many issues overall with OpenGL on ATI/AMD Graphics... And once the frame pacing driver came out for Terascale/GCN... AMD's drivers were extremely solid.
| fatslob-:O said: Samsung will probably just down clock them if they have to get a higher efficiency curve when the other players are a non-starter ... |
We don't know the extent of how Samsung is going to leverage AMD's patents, Samsung has been working on a GPU for Exynos for the good part of 7+ years, whether they threw that design out and adopted AMD's remains to be seen or if Samsung is just licensing AMD's patents to protect themselves, who knows.
End of the day though... If you are in North America, this means little anyway as Samsung generally leverages Snapdragon in that territory anyway.

nVidia doesn't get design wins in mobile phones, they are irrelevant in the mobile phone space.
In saying that... Qualcomm leverages Radeon technology anyway... Samsung+Qualcomm means that AMD will have the bulk of the high-end/mid-range smartphone locked up using their graphics technology... Granted Adreno has deviated from more modern AMD architectures, there is still some fundamental similarities at various levels. Remember... Re-arrange the letters of Adreno and it spells out Radeon.

Allwinner and Mediatek tend to have the low-end locked up, they tend to opt for PowerVR and Mali, seems that PowerVR has been getting the preference over Mali these days though.
Maybe ARM might reduce their emphasis on developing their own graphics I.P?

Will be extremely curious if AMD will also provide OpenGL ES drivers which are far easier make compared to regular OpenGL or if they'll just use a translation layer in place like ANGLE ... |
I think it is to soon to jump the gun and assume AMD will be building drivers for Android. They may leave that up to Samsung.

It seems to be Samsung paying up AMD for their GPU designs ...
AMD's GL drivers are straight up ugly from the pre-GCN days so that's why AMD were the biggest lobbyists for pushing the industry towards DX12/Vulkan ...

Samsung's GPU designs aren't coming to fruition and likely never will because they have too many damn things going on. They already design their own custom ARM cores but they also deal with logic, DRAM, NAND fabrication and they produce OLED displays as well so there's no point in them trying to chase another market to be self sufficient when they face fierce competition from Apple, Intel, TSMC, SK Hynix, Micron, LG and more to come like BOE or YMTC ...
There comes a certain point where businesses will scale down their efficiency as they become too big so there has to be a limit where Samsung cannot expand anymore because it's not safe to rapidly expand your business like Intel has because otherwise you're going to have failures start piling on even within their core competencies like we see with Intel's 10nm logic fabrication technology since there has to cuts in resources in other segments to keep up ...
The world as we know it not becoming more generalized but it's becoming more specialized! It's naive on Samsung's part to continue expanding ...
Samsung has to use Snapdragon in North America because of Qualcomm's heavy handed licensing terms which involved CDMA technology. US carriers such as Verizon and Sprint are still operating networks which use CDMA technology so mobile device manufacturers have no choice but to accept Qualcomm's modems if they want their phones to be able to work on all North American carriers ...
Sprint isn't going to shutdown their CDMA based networks up until the end of 2022 ... (hopefully, mobile chipset designers won't have to pander to patent encumbered technology like CDMA)

nVidia doesn't get design wins in mobile phones, they are irrelevant in the mobile phone space. |
The rest of them still have really bad graphics drivers including Qualcomm because they're all too damn focused on other things to care about graphics technology ...
Every graphics tech enthusiast out there know that Adreno is an anagram for Radeon and by this point Qualcomm's graphics architecture are vastly different to AMD's. Qualcomm is still probably on scalar/vec4 while AMD is scalar/SIMD ...

Allwinner and Mediatek tend to have the low-end locked up, they tend to opt for PowerVR and Mali, seems that PowerVR has been getting the preference over Mali these days though. Maybe ARM might reduce their emphasis on developing their own graphics I.P? |
Nah, they still want a complete package so that mobile device manufacturers don't take their business to Qualcomm ...

Well they basically have to since their drivers even take responsibility for some Intel parts using Vega ...
AMD are going to have to make drivers for Android if Samsung integrates their designs into the SoCs since AMD could provide better driver support than anyone other big player in the Android world would but hopefully there'll be enough funds from Samsung to provide the drivers ...

I just don't see the issues you have with OpenGL and Radeon pre-GCN. I have been using ATI/AMD for decades and it's always been usable... Sure performance wasn't as great as nVidia, but overall AMD's GPU's still did well.

Yeah. I wouldn't discount Samsung out until they actually make an official announcement... Nor would I be willing to engage in hypothetical's/conspiracy theories on whether Samsung is abandoning their own GPU efforts or not.

Hence my previous statement of Adreno deviating from the current Radeon paradigm, but retaining some core similarities.
In saying that, there are only so many ways you can skin a cat, so even when comparing AMD and nVidia graphics there are some common (Aka smart) design philosophies... Which isn't inherently a bad thing.

I am not saying that ARM is going to abandon their GPU efforts, just not invest as much time and resources into developing their graphics solutions.

Well no. They don't have to do anything. They may leave that responsibility to Samsung.

So, we all knew that, one day, Apple would lose its mind, but I didn't expect it to be so much and with something so obvious: during their conference they've announced their new 6K monitor, that comes without a stand, and then they've revealed their optional (it's VESA) stand made of aluminium, that's nothing else than a simple stand... and they've priced it at $999.
That's having no shame nor any kind of respect for its potential customers.
But the worst part is that there's going to be morons that will buy it.
Please excuse my bad English.
Former gaming PC: i5-4670k@stock (for now), 16Gb RAM 1600 MHz and a GTX 1070
Current gaming PC: R5-7600, 32GB RAM 6000MT/s (CL30) and a RX 9060XT 16GB
Steam / Live / NNID : jonxiquet Add me if you want, but I'm a single player gamer.

I wondered what the problem was, then I realised the $999 was for the stand not the monitor.
$4999 monitor
$199 Vesa Adapter
$999 Stand
Can't get much more apple then that.
