Not sure if you covered it Zarx. :3
Easily the most profitable platform for developers for a long time to come as the new consoles have tiny install bases, which should translate into games with any luck.

Hopefully this leads to Japanese publishers pushing forth releases of Japanese games to PC as well. Even if they are legacy/old titles :P.

I wouldnt mind double, triple or even quad dipping on some of the games I have :P!

Same, you can't have to many Japanese games! Thankfully Namco has seen the light and started to support the PC more, hopefully it pays off so other developers take notice.

From someone who works in gaming retail I can definitly tell you there are a LOT of gamers switching over to PC.

You have to give Valve some props cause Steam is a big part of why

Yeah, my PC build and upgrade orders are getting more frequent this year already.

I think the PC has reached a point where we aren't classed as dirty filthy stealing pirates anymore, but real dollar signs.
Valve/Steam has actually successfully competed against a free model and won and that was purely via consolidation and convenience and good will to gamers, they did well, which was in stark contrast to other developers hating and ignoring the PC like Ubisoft. (Calling 93-95% of PC gamers pirates.)

Yeah its pretty rare now to hear about the terrible "PC gamers are all pirates" stereotype. Its becoming in some ways the dominant form of gaming

Thief trailer offers first, flickering glimpse of its supernatural Cradle counterpart

Comment

Sometimes, this multi-platform life we live pays off. Most often, when expensive games that would otherwise be financially unjustifiable as PC exclusives actually get made. But also when the people at Sony’s channel post videos on games we’re interested in.

In this case we’re watching footage from imminent next-gen stealth-action game Thief, in which the shadows are your “only ally” - apart from your actual, tangible human allies, of course. Garrett has tons of mates now.

You’ll hear a lady with a robot voice do her monotone best to sex up water arrows - and catch a glimpse of Eidos Montreal’s bid to recapture Thief’s way with the scary and the supernatural.

Magicka: Wizard Wars hands on: prepare for lift-off

Comments1

These things are never certain of course. There’s plenty that can and will go both right and wrong. But, having played Magicka: Wizard Wars at length, and seen first-hand the team’s obvious passion for both their game and developing it so publically… I think it’s going to go off like a rocket.

Prepare the whisky and surly demeanor: The Wolf Among Us Episode 2 out today

Comment

It's a good thing that the first episode of The Wolf Among Us was memorable, or we'd all be in a pickle, grasping a threads of memory as we attempt to recall enough to play the second episode, which is coming out today, as it happens.

It's been a painfully long four months since the first episode, and that was only two hours long. Hopefully the cadence of episode releases will improve from here on out, and we've also got the second episode of The Walking Dead Season 2 to look forward to.

Star Wars: The Old Republic's 2014: two new expansions and a storyline to span "the whole year"

Comment

SWTOR’s 2013 wasn’t anything at all like its 2012: last year its live team witnessed the game’s playerbase shift from subscription-only to primarily free-to-play; instigated the release of its first proper expansion; and oversaw mammoth construction of an all-new PvP dogfighting mode to banish the memory of on-rails space combat.

In 2014, BioWare Austin hope, there will be no paradigm shifts. Free-to-play will continue to draw in thousands every day, and there’ll be another two expansions - one about the size of a Hutt Cartel, the other as big as a Galactic Starfighter.

What Guild Wars 2's Edge of the Mists update brings to World versus World

Comment

Guild Wars 2's Edge of the Mists update, going live today, continues the story of that tricky Scarlet and her aetherblade chums, but more significantly adds a new world versus world map, the titular Edge of the Mists.

The map is a solution to a problem, more than one problem, really, as well as a place for ArenaNet to experiment with the design of world versus world. Devon Carver, world versus world coordinator, explained the biggest changes Edge of the Mists brings to the table.

Kyn's a tactical RPG with a different take on monsters

Comment

Tactical combat is clearly a thing now. It used to be a thing, but a large group of people got together and declared that it would be a thing no longer. Presumably those people are all dead now, or they've come to their senses. Just looking at my installed games on Steam I've got Blackguards, Divinity: Original Sin and Wasteland 2 all getting up to tactical shenanigans with many more either finished with or yet to come.

And now there's Kyn, a tactical RPG due out this summer. This is a trend I can get behind. Deploy oculur tools to watch the video below.

Bill Gates has also stepped down as chairman of the Board of Directors but will remain as founder and technological advisor. John Thompson, lead director of the board has stepped in as the new chairman.

Titanfall minimum system requirements are... not titanic

Comment

Vince Zampella revealed the minimum system requirements for Titanfall earlier today on Twitter. They aren't very demanding. An 8800GT is recommended as the bare minimum for graphics cards, with an Intel Core 2 Duo 2.4GHz CPU and 4GB RAM.

These are just the requirements to run the game without your PC popping off this mortal coil, so don't expect all the bells and whistles.

10000000+1: You Must Build A Boat

By Alec Meer on February 4th, 2014 at 11:00 am.

Hey kids, remember April 2008? Remember You Have To Burn The Rope? Remember how we laughed? Well, You Must Build A Boat has absolutely nothing to do with that. A new game with an imperative in its title just sent me all nostalgic. Look at the stuff we were banging on about back then. Blueberry Garden! Demigod! Jetpack Brontosaurus! Possible Deus Ex 3 concept art!

Man. Man. No, no, I’m fine, I’m just… sniff. I SAID I’M FINE. It’s just been raining on my face.

You Must Build A Boat is the sequel to wonderful RPG/match-3/endless runner mash-up 10000000. It’ll also be free to existing 10000000 owners.

For A Song: MirrorMoon EP Expands, On Sale

By Adam Smith on February 4th, 2014 at 2:00 pm.

To coincide with a week-long Steam sale, the enigmatic MirrorMoon EP has expanded its repertoire of planetary structures, adding objects that pay homage to various games, including Kentucky Route Zero and Gone Home. It’s entirely possible that I made a huge mistake when I allowed this one to slip off the frighteningly extensive list of games that I intend to play. I did noodle around with the prototype, which introduced the puzzling concept hinted at in the game’s title, but have only visited the full release a couple of times. It reminds me somewhat of Starseed Pilgrim, in that it lacks guidance or instruction but is constructed around concepts of puzzle and play rather than being a ‘go for a walk’ experience. The game is currently £4.19 through Steam, a 40% discount that firmly plants it in actual EP territory.

Survival RPG ReRoll Wants To Map (Most Of) The World

By Graham Smith on February 4th, 2014 at 6:00 pm.

This is almost too ridiculous, but it’s got pedigree. Julien Cuny and Louis-Pierre Pharand, former producers and creative directors at Ubisoft on Assassin’s Creed and FarCry, have formed a new development studio named PIXYUL. Their goal: to map our planet at 1:1 scale using drones, and use the resulting 3D recreation as the setting for a survival RPG called ReRoll.

Video below which shows, at least, that they are not joking.

That's a great deal!

I could get Brave New World and Gods and Kings for roughly 12 € (yeah, I'm that cheap), with the plus of the past Civ games and Railroads... I will seriously consider it.

Also, 2K has revealed a new Complete Edition of Civ V!

Splintered, not stirred: Splinter Cell was originally pitched as a James Bond game

Comments1

Splinter Cell has gone through a lot of changes since the first game in 2002, but none as significant as the changes that took place before it became the franchise we know. Yannis Mallat, CEO at Ubisoft Montreal spills the beans to IGN.

It was originally conceived as a retro-sci-fi shooter called The Drift, but it lacked soul even though it had some of the mechanics - like different vision modes and modular guns - that would make its way into Splinter Cell. Development struggled thanks to an inexperienced team with big ambitions and the project was close to being shelved.

Then it was pitched as a James Bond game in a desperate attempt to rescue it.

New Developers Report No Payments From Strategy First

By John Walker on February 5th, 2014 at 10:00 am.

The day before yesterday a game appeared on Steam. Not a peculiar thing. Yesterday it was gone from Steam. A peculiar thing. The game was Paper Monsters, by developers Mobot Studios/Crescent Moon Games, which came out in 2012, published by the oft-troubled Strategy First. Crescent Moon had no idea the Steam publication was happening. With a new version of the game having just cleared Greenlight, and due to release this Summer, they had no intentions of seeing the older game on Valve’s store. It wasn’t until another developer asked them why the game was now on sale that they learned of it. And then learned that it had been put there by Strategy First – the publisher they tell us they had a contract with that stipulated no Steam publication, and indeed the publisher they say has yet to pay them at all.

And they’re not the only ones.

Signs Of Life Has Signs Of Life, Such As MechaChickens

By Graham Smith on February 5th, 2014 at 9:00 am.

Another partly procedural Terarrialike about spaceships, planet surfaces, building and exploration? I was about to pass Signs of Life right by, till I saw its page of GIFs. These a degree to which its world and character animation is extremely awkward. There’s also a degree to which that awkwardness makes its sheep, chickens and protagonist in cut-off jeans seem extremely cute.

Signs of Life just launched on Steam Early Access, and there’s a trailer below.

Two-to-four-player, QWOPish, psychedelic whale-battler Starwhal: Just The Tip has gone from gamejammed quickie to decent Kickstarter success to A Thing That Is Being Released On February 17.

Unfortunatly I had Brave New World and Gods and Kings. :( I think I bought them at full price, not sure.

Personally, I refuse to play Civ anymore. It sucks the life out of you, entire days can pass you by as you tell yourself "Just one more turn".

Luckily, my "Civilization fever" isn't as severe and I have no problem playing it in small bursts.

That said, and given that it's been a few weeks since my last game, now would be a good time to get the expansions and give it another run ^.^.
