Thief trailer offers first, flickering glimpse of its supernatural Cradle counterpart
Sometimes, this multi-platform life we live pays off. Most often, when expensive games that would otherwise be financially unjustifiable as PC exclusives actually get made. But also when the people at Sony’s channel post videos on games we’re interested in.
In this case we’re watching footage from imminent next-gen stealth-action game Thief, in which the shadows are your “only ally” - apart from your actual, tangible human allies, of course. Garrett has tons of mates now.
You’ll hear a lady with a robot voice do her monotone best to sex up water arrows - and catch a glimpse of Eidos Montreal’s bid to recapture Thief’s way with the scary and the supernatural.
Magicka: Wizard Wars hands on: prepare for lift-off
These things are never certain of course. There’s plenty that can and will go both right and wrong. But, having played Magicka: Wizard Wars at length, and seen first-hand the team’s obvious passion for both their game and developing it so publically… I think it’s going to go off like a rocket.
Prepare the whisky and surly demeanor: The Wolf Among Us Episode 2 out today
It's a good thing that the first episode of The Wolf Among Us was memorable, or we'd all be in a pickle, grasping a threads of memory as we attempt to recall enough to play the second episode, which is coming out today, as it happens.
It's been a painfully long four months since the first episode, and that was only two hours long. Hopefully the cadence of episode releases will improve from here on out, and we've also got the second episode of The Walking Dead Season 2 to look forward to.
Star Wars: The Old Republic's 2014: two new expansions and a storyline to span "the whole year"
SWTOR’s 2013 wasn’t anything at all like its 2012: last year its live team witnessed the game’s playerbase shift from subscription-only to primarily free-to-play; instigated the release of its first proper expansion; and oversaw mammoth construction of an all-new PvP dogfighting mode to banish the memory of on-rails space combat.
In 2014, BioWare Austin hope, there will be no paradigm shifts. Free-to-play will continue to draw in thousands every day, and there’ll be another two expansions - one about the size of a Hutt Cartel, the other as big as a Galactic Starfighter.
What Guild Wars 2's Edge of the Mists update brings to World versus World
Guild Wars 2's Edge of the Mists update, going live today, continues the story of that tricky Scarlet and her aetherblade chums, but more significantly adds a new world versus world map, the titular Edge of the Mists.
The map is a solution to a problem, more than one problem, really, as well as a place for ArenaNet to experiment with the design of world versus world. Devon Carver, world versus world coordinator, explained the biggest changes Edge of the Mists brings to the table.
Kyn's a tactical RPG with a different take on monsters
Tactical combat is clearly a thing now. It used to be a thing, but a large group of people got together and declared that it would be a thing no longer. Presumably those people are all dead now, or they've come to their senses. Just looking at my installed games on Steam I've got Blackguards, Divinity: Original Sin and Wasteland 2 all getting up to tactical shenanigans with many more either finished with or yet to come.
And now there's Kyn, a tactical RPG due out this summer. This is a trend I can get behind. Deploy oculur tools to watch the video below.
Satya Nadella wins Microsoft's Got Talent and becomes the new CEO
Satya Nadella, previously chief of Microsoft's cloud and enterprise group, has been named Microsoft's new CEO. As is traditional in big companies like Microsoft, Nadella decapitated the last CEO, Steve Ballmer, who left in August, and consumed his power.
Bill Gates has also stepped down as chairman of the Board of Directors but will remain as founder and technological advisor. John Thompson, lead director of the board has stepped in as the new chairman.
Ch-ch-ch-ch-changes.
Titanfall minimum system requirements are... not titanic
Vince Zampella revealed the minimum system requirements for Titanfall earlier today on Twitter. They aren't very demanding. An 8800GT is recommended as the bare minimum for graphics cards, with an Intel Core 2 Duo 2.4GHz CPU and 4GB RAM.
These are just the requirements to run the game without your PC popping off this mortal coil, so don't expect all the bells and whistles.
