Forums - Gaming - [UPDATE!!] (Quick Thought) What is your definition of a AAA game?

I'm just curious, when you browse through games rather its Sony, Nintendo or Microsoft or indie games etc. How would you view a triple A game. Is it the hype, graphics, what?

What I'm hoping is for AAA games to die. If they died out, that would persuade devs to put more focus on smaller ($40 price range) projects, focusing on gameplay and story instead of trying to get a cheap impression and cheers by showing next gen graphics and calling is a day. Game development take up too much money and it's usually take a miracle to make profit off of it.

Don’t follow the hype, follow the games

Here a little quote I want for those to keep memorize in your head for this coming next gen.

Not the hype or graphics, just the budget

Gotta agree.

RenCutypoison and Xen: Right on the money there,(no pund attended) their spending way too much money on these projects its crazy. I'm sort of hoping for a crash to fix some things.

Yeah. If it were just the graphics, than SW:TOR wouldn't be AAA, despite being (one of?) the most expensive game ever made.

Budget and marketing

I'm on Twitter @DanneSandin!

Furthermore, I think VGChartz should add a "Like"-button.

i still think a XXX game would be better than AAA games....

Its a dual meaning: big budget and/or a 90+ meta game. The reason for this is because when a "AAA" game bombs on metacritic, it is counter productive to the name.

People who disagree, definitions change all the time. Take "fag" for example. Name went from a pile of sticks, to a homophobic slur, to cigarettes, to its current definition of a group of Harley Motorcyclists.

Don't know why some people still cling to the old definition of AAA. Its definition is in transition and some people are for some reason trying to hold it back.

Xbox: Best hardware, Game Pass best value, best BC, more 1st party genres and multiplayer titles.

Budget. I remember an article saying that for a game to become "AAA" it needs, at least, a budget of $20 million.
