This isn't a good thing. Developers should be encouraged to ship the game in proper working order. This gen developers have been very sloppy with this.

Well the fees were no big deal to Triple A developers. It didn't stop them from releasing buggy games. This news is mostly great for smaller developers.

The developer of Fez claimed they didn't patch some bugs because expensive fees. However, MS claimed the Fez developers said the game was complete. Regardless, this eliminates that potential problem.

That's the thing really.
He got one title update for free. He knew about the gamebreaking bug, tried to fix it and it didn't work. He should've invested more time into really fixing it instead of just trying to make a hotfix.

So does this mean Phil Fish will release another patch for the 360?

It's just that simple.

Good and bad.

Good so indie and those with little cash can add updates beyond the one free one at no additional expense.

Bad as it was essentially a fine for not making sure the game was 100% at launch.

Its an issue in game development for than any other software market. They continually force a damn date instead of making sure the game bug-free. That's BS and is a practice I wish they'd stop. If all console manufactures forced the issue it would. Even if if was a gradually increasing fine right from the first patch.

Fez and other devs need to test better and/or delay games if they truly are not ready. This is where I give tremendous respect to Nintendo. Quality first. Always.

Meh, double edged sword. It could mean more developers happy with developing on Xbox platforms, but it also means the games made from said development can be more buggy.
