Interesting. All four main entries in the Donkey Kong Country series have sold over one million copies in Japan, with the first reaching three million. And each of them were developed in the West (Rare in the UK and Retro in the US).

Naughty Dog hasn't seen a shortage of success in Japan, either. Crash Bandicoot also regularly sold over a million and Uncharted has done fairly well, too.
