This is awful optimistic. The PS3 is down 21 million right now, so you're basically expecting it to sell 20 million more units while the PS4 is on the market. I can see it getting as high as 83-4 million in the next year or so, but that last fifteen million units really stretches plausibility.

But the facts of the matter remain: Nintendo sold the most hardware of any manufacturer, and then sold a ton of software on top of that. I don't have the figures in front of me, but Nintendo is way ahead of any other developer for this generation. Take the next two biggest developers, put their sales together, and Nintendo's software sales are probably still bigger.

Nintendo didn't win this generation. They eviscerated it.

It is Nintendo.

They sold the most Wii's
They had the biggest market share
They sold the most software
They made the most money

As a bonus, they dominated the handheld market too.

Also, bringing 'game-quality' and such things into this is pointless and not the way to define a generation winner. It's irrelevant. If it weren't, the PS1 and PS2 weren't the 5th and 6th gen winners if it's up to me.

And how much sales impetus do you think will be left after that? Practically everybody will be developing for gen 8, gen 7's last games will be be close to bottoming out in the used game market. Another 10 million unit year after all that is optimistic. If it hits those sales projections (and I don't think it will) it might hit 90-95 million lifetime, but sales will decay too fast to catch the Wii.
