I would kill for widescreen HD remasters of that trilogy on WiiU.
GC or Xbox had best graphics? | |||
| Xbox | 123 | 40.46% | |

| About the same imo | 34 | 11.18% | |

Metroid Prime is still the best looking game of that whole generation. It ran at a smooth as silk 60fps @ 480p and had awesome lighting, reflections, ragdoll physics and more stuff than I can remember. It singlehandedly got me off the PC and back into console gaming. Games on the PC ran at higher resolutions, but none could compare to the overall Metroid Prime experience. It was 10 years ago but I'll never forget it. |
I wholeheartedly agree. Prime's graphics impressed me the most in the 6th gen. The flawless frame rate, the beautiful touches like seeing her reflection occasionally in the visor, and I love how few rooms look the same due to the unparalleled art style.

As for the debate, both were able to top each other in different aspects. Neither "easily" overpowered the other. Claiming so is beyond the scope of objectivity. What it really came down was that the Xbox was easier to work with thanks to DirectX yet the GC's TEV shader system was almost equally as capable for those developers that took the time to learn it. You really can't answer this question definitively because of the trade offs each console had over the other and the subjectiveness inherent with the question to begin with. |
But I don't think Gamecube could top the Xbox at anything. I mean in regards to specs was the Xbox not superior? Furthermore the Xbox was easier for developers to work with.
It certainly must be easier to bring the best looking Gamecube games to Xbox than vice versa.

GC could top the Xbox in some areas. It used a fixed function shader system that wasn't as flexble as the Xbox's, but was more efficient at doing the effects hard-coded into it, like embossing and EMBM.
nevermind

While I agree that some Xbox games wouldn't work on Gamecube, the opposite was also sometimes true; iirc Factor 5 said in an article that they could not have ported Rogue Squadron 3 to the Xbox and have maintain the same performance (regarding polys and textures, I believe) that it had on the Cube.

I dunno. I own those Star Wars games and they don't look very good.
But hey, we hear developers claiming they can't put game A on console B all the time.

No Xbox game ever ended up pushing as many effects and polygons as those games did at 60fps.

Maybe not, but the Xbox certainly has games that look much better.
So I'm not sure what your point is.

What "looks better" is subjective; one person might find Xbox's better lighting better looking, another may find Gamecube's high polygons counts and extensive effects better looking.
