Forums - Gaming - Best games/experiences from the Wii/360/PS3 generation

Is not over yet and I am starting to feel nostalgic. I thought about it because I am not hyped about WiiU/Ps180/PS4. Maybe has to do with the fact that the best games rarely are those released at the begining of a generation.

Ok, so I will begin:

PS3: I will start with this one because is the last one I acquired. Right now is maybe my favorite plataform. Best experience: 3D movies and in general the more accesible multimedia features. Free online gaming. Best game or franchise: Uncharted!!! But the best of all is PLAYSTATION PLUS. So much value! Now I am seriously considering getting a PS Vita, just because of PS+.

360: An awesome console too. But basically a single player experience. I like shooters, but the games that made it for me are Oblivion and Skyrim. So good on the 360! I later tried the PC version, but I couldn't get used to the mouse/keyboard layout. Gears of War and Forza are the only franchises I like on the system, but I mainly got it for the HD multiplat games. Red Dead Redemption, The Mass Effect Trilogy and XCom Enemy Unknown really hit the spot for me.

Nintendo Wii: Maybe my favorite. To play with guests, to play by yourself, to play co-op... Wii Sports and the Party games. I had so much fun having people over and fooling around with this. I totally had to buy aditional Wiimotes and it was totally worth it. Also on the single player side... Resident Evil 4, The Legend of Zelda Twilight Princess, Super Mario Galaxy,  Fire Emblem Radiant Dawn, Guitar Hero games, Lego games...

Good times...

I know this is very subjective but that's ok. I am interested in listening other people's experience with this generation. Let's keep it positive and avoid fanboyism, please. If you only game on one plattform, well let's hear it:

What was your more pleasant gaming experience of the last seven years?

Around the Network

I can summarize mine pretty quick:

PS3: Playing Uncharted 3 with a buddy. It was something like OH MY GAWD STAPH SHOOTING RPGS TO ME YOU DUMB FUCK TAKE THE DAMN BOSS DOWN Y OU IDIOT REVIVE ME YOU FOOL BUT DON'T REVIVE ME IF YOU ARE SURROUNDED BY ENEMIES STUPID! Hey, look, an M9...DON'T TAKE THE FUCKING WEAPON YOU IDIOT IT WAS MINE! - You pick the thing. - NO FUCK, YOU PICK IT UP, I'LL COVER YOU OH MY GAWD REVIVE ME, OH CRAP WE DIED BECAUSE OF YOU!

Xbox 360: My console of choice, and this one brings a lot of nostalgia. I can't just say "the better"...there were many. Beating with two buddies (one of them being the one as in the Ps3) the whole Gears of War Trilogy in one sitting, playing Geometric Wars 2 until late in the morning, jumping like an idiot when for some dumb rookie mistake I kept dying in Dark Souls (And being annoyed that my friend was far more advanced considering I bought the game before him, but eventually I got to the credits first!), being good in Fallout, being bad in Fallout, and my favourite: discovering games I never thought I would be able to own in spanish retail stores, such as the first Dead Rising, The Last Remnant and Tales of Vesperia or Metro 2033.

Nintendo: I'M GUNNA DESTROY YOU WITH LUIGI, YOU DAMNED MARTH -> And trying hours, and hours, and hours. Another friend of mine has put like 1200 hours (according to his Brawl's stats) into the game, and he's one of the best players in Spain. I'm a pretty good fighter, but no matter how much I try, he always beats me. However I'm fond of this. So much time playing that game together; it's just an amazing experience.

^ And I want to use my experiences to back up that, no matter how online play can be so cool, nothing will never beat offline co-op/competition.

Wii: Mario Galaxy. Can't praise that game enough.

360: Halo 3 and Oblivion. Countless hours in both games. Maaaan.....Oblivion had such a beautiful world  compared to Skyrim :(

Highlights of this gen for me would be (in no particular order)

Wii Sports - it got my non-gamer friends into gaming.
Mario Kart Wii & Smash Bros. Brawl - The kings of local multiplayer.
The open worlds of Red Dead Redemption and Skyrim.
Battlefield 3's online multiplayer - still the best.
The Bioshock series and The Last of Us - Excellent storytelling.
Borderlands 1 & 2 for doing something different with the FPS genre.
Minecraft for taking months out of my "real" life.
Forza 3 & 4 and the Codemaster F1 games - pure racing bliss.
The Gears series!!

I'm sure there were many more highlights I can't remember right now but it's been a hell of a good time to be a gamer on any format.

Here's to the next gen and beyond!!

;D yes, but I loved to walk around it (not including dungeons, repetetive sh*t holes lol) also, I was a bit younger and it really left a big
impression on me ^^

That's why several places/several dungeons looked almost the same?

PS3: Well i got my PS3 in 2008 along with Rockband 2, didnt have internet on it cause i was dumb. i played alot of great games like HAZE,Resistance, COD WAW, and a bunch of other old games. after a year it broke dont know how, sent it in to Sony and they sent back a GOD PS3 that is epic. Couple of months ago i upgraded it to a 500GB HDD and have been having a great time along the way.

Xbox 360: Well this was the first console from this gen i played. it was also the first i played online with. ok so i never owned it but i spent alot of time on Gears of war, HALO 3, and COD 4 and WAW on it. i loved it, its what made me want to buy a next gen console but i saw you need to pay to play online and i didnt have the money at the time. i really like the 360 even tho it breaks and has no games i have respect for the console. BUT i Hate Microsoft dearly and i wont support them no way no how.

Wii: i really have never liked Nintendo after the Super Nintendo, cause they have never been really into gaming for me. they just copy and paste the same old franchises. The gamecube really turned me off from nintendo, i only played it at mcdonalds when it was there. The wii didnt change anything. i didnt care about motion and only really played the console at my friends house which was fun, but only cause my Friends were there, if they wernt then i would have had a horrible boring time. I do want a WiiU cause it seems they have become a little more serious

Xenoblade - for me the best jPRG of all times, I was waiting for a game like this since FF7 and Legend of Dragoon.
Super Mario Galaxy - the best platformer this gen and the best Mario game of all times.
Uncharted - the best action adventure game since Tomb Raider 1996.
Call of Duty 4 - for the very first time I really liked FPS on a console.

Honorable mentions:
Mass Effect - amazing series ruined by the ending.
Bad Company 1 - finally a free roaming shoter where you can destroy everything.
Skyrim - FPP RPG? It can be good!
Borderlands - diablo fps with a great humor.
Saints Row 3 - so much better than GTA4!
Batman: Arham Asylum - very polished game with lots of great ideas.
Gears of War - a true system seller. A game like this should be bundled with every new console.

First Post!!!!!

I had a strange gen as i wasn´t so involved with gaming as I am now. My first contact with a console was with the Ps3 as we always buy from the playstation brand first for no special reason xD. Anyway this gen I had a Wii and a Ps3 and never had a 360 (altough I played a little bit of it at a friends house).

Ps3: At first I hated the console, I really tought it had no games at the time I had it and it collected dust for about a whole year. I bought Eternal Sonata and absolutely hated it :/. But everything changed when a friend of mine introudced me to uncharted! I was blown away by the experience and loved it, that is when I started to buy everything new that came out and everything my friends offered. Thanks to that I managed to build a big library of games with over 50 games! I absolutely love this console. Anyway my most precious memories are from demon and dark souls. Those for me are of the best games this generation. i loved everything from the challenging gameplay to the dark atmosphere. An absolute joy.

And last but not least the Wii: Simple. Super Mario Galaxy, defintely one of the best games of all time! the music, the level design, everything was perfect. I even went as far as to do the entire game with mario and luigi to get everything. Also I got into the Super Smash Bros universe and currently is one of my favourite fighting games this gen.

All in all this was an awesome gen and is thanks to this consoles that I started to love gaming!
