Forums - Microsoft - Ryse: Son of Rome could spawn sequel, not meant to be a ‘one-off’, suggests Yerli

VG247

Ryse: Son of Rome was shown running on Xbox One for the first time during Microsoft’s E3 conference, and although it’s still early days, Crytek boss Cevat Yerli has suggested that the game was never conceived as a one-off title.

Speaking with Polygon, Yerli offered a scant insight into the Ryse road-map. “The title’s not supposed to be a one-off,” he said, suggesting that sequel plans could already be in the back of his mind.

Yerli also discussed the studios protracted development of Ryse, and stressed that the game will be a challenge until it hits stores. “Ryse was a challenge, and is still a challenge,” he said. “It’s going to be a challenge until it’s in the shops. … When at times certain things didn’t happen as I wanted them to happen, I never thought, ‘OK, let’s put it in stop.’ But I had my doubts that we could pull it off in the kind of quality I’m looking at.”

Many have disputed the game’s quality from a control perspective already, suggesting that it’s a QTE fest with little to offer otherwise. Crytek countered by saying that the game’s prompts are extremely satisfying if you master them.

Pat saw Ryse at E3 and to the contrary, suggested it was violent, action-filled and rather impressive.Check out his interview with Crytek here.

Yeah, maybe not...

Nice. I think Ryse will be the next big Xbox franchise.

Imagine not having GamePass on your console...

What is this? Such nonsense... He should be talking about day on DLC before releasing the game.. Not about sequels.. Did he skip game development 101?

Face the future.. Gamecenter ID: nikkom_nl (oh no he didn't!!)

Which all suggests that the game will end on a cliffhanger

What's the relevance of these titles?

This is a launch exclusive made by Crytek who are well known for their technical wizadry not to mention being published and marketed by Microsoft as one of their big launch titles. I could equally put up all the God of War games and say there's a huge market for these types of games.

The game looks impressive, but i have my doubts. In regards to story it really looks like its all about killing and over the top action that is used to sell the engine, rather than make good use of it for enhancing gameplay.

Ryse is looking like Lair or Too Human to me. I want to like it, I really do, but the emphasis on QTEs turned me off. If it was a combination of I'd get it, early. The graphics are awesome and it looks brutal. It is still early and a lot can change between now and launch. Hopefully, it comes off well.

I hate the QTE events and the way it works. I seriously just don't understand how it doesn't matter what button i press but the attack still happens.

It's basically a press X to win game because all the moves can be done with one button

They've said they'll turn down the QTE's on the final build of the game. They were just QTE heavy at E3 to give people a good idea about what to expect from the executions or something... I think the game probably just wasn't finished and they said that instead.

You can't really say that about this game when you haven't played it either, also when you have a Dynasty Warriors character in your avatar.
