What, this exact thing? As opposed to implementing some of the suggested changes?

Funny thing, the company we know as Nintendo was actually founded in 1947 and isn't the Nintendo founded in 1889 :P |
oh come on :X your killing me lol

If you want to disregard SMW Yoshi, then the correct answer would be Super Mario Kart. |
Did Super Mario Kart release before Yoshi's Island? Well, then my answer is as false as yours XD

AHAHAHA, cut me some slack. You could say I'm picky, but actually I was just trolling now (the statement is true, though) :P

You directly control him when you collect a star. That makes him a playable character. 1889. |
True, to some extent. Must admit that I didn't think about that, but would the controllable Baby Mario be any different to for example the Beetle item in Skyward Sword? Is Baby Mario in Yoshi's Island not just a controllable 'homing missile'?
Anyway, this isn't really discussion-worthy, or rather "who cares anyway", so whatever .

Hm, that depends on your definition of "playable", I guess. In SMW Yoshi was more of an item than a character, while Baby Mario in Yoshi's Island was your objective, not a playable character. Oh well, it's just about imaginary internet points anyways |
However, Yoshi would be a character by definition in SMW. Yoshi had a story in the game, and you had to save them. You also technically say that Yoshi was playable in SMW in that when you were riding the Yoshi, you were using all of the iconic moveset of Yoshi and almost none of Mario's own.
Lol, this bickering about what constitutes a character is pretty funny .
