Forums - Gaming - Xbox One Is Pricey Because Microsoft Doesn't Put Consumers First Like Sony Does

Microsoft joined the industry not because of games, they wanted the multimedia. Their battle with Sony is no different better than their battle with Apple. Its a massive battle for multimedia dominance that they crave. No one can have the living room but them.

You keep saying MS had no interest in games yet MS keeps making powerful gaming machines, putting out quality games, brought attention to indie developers on consoles, and raised the bar in online gaming. MS has made great contributions to console gaming and you eventually have to accept the fact MS is just as focused on games as Sony.

Sony has shown more interest in dominating the living room than MS and Apple. In fact, Sony once did a damn fine job dominating the living room. But they fucked that up and chased many fans away with the PS3.

Games are easy for them, all they have to do is buy them. They didn't really care about games in the initial stages. The only people who cared about the games were the initial team. The people who had the power only cared about the multimedia implications of knocking off Sony because they tried to partner up with Sony and they turned them down.

Microsoft pressured Sony into it. We were talking about this a while back how Sony would eventually start charging and they didnt. PSN+ was the creation that came out of finding an alternate way to make people pay and even Microsoft is taking that now. They aren't locking people out of complete online experience like MS is doing, they are just makingt he multiplayer a PSN+ Perk.

How exactly did MS pressure Sony into it?? You do come out with some balony STAGE.

You don't have to believe me but I've been talking about this for years. Ever watched Pachter or Bonus Round? The industry analysts have been talking about MS gaining profit from online gaming hand over fist while Sony suffered with free online gaming while they were barely profitting off of the PS3. For years they had been stating eventually Sony will cave to the pressure Microsoft has set in front of them to go for paid online. I believe it was Pachter who said they would not be able to sustain PSN Plus and giving away games.Pachter has been saying for years that Xbox Live has been past the pure profit stage for the venture for years. Many people articles have been written talking about the more positive affect PSN Plus is having on console gaming and the message its sendng. I've already paid for it and luckily for MS gamers MS learned how to give back to gamers even though they got Sony to cave into the paid multiplayer process. At least Sony doesn't block us off from the online experience nor F2P games which arent needed.

This isn't a question of altruism, they're both public corporations in it to ultimately take in from you more than they spend on you, and make a living for themselves from that.

The question is which business model the consumer will reward. I'd say the one selling to the consumer for $100 less with better hardware to boot probably deserves it more, if I'm going to be brutally honest right now. Microsoft should really match or undercut them.

Yep that is my issue with not getting the console at launch. They have me sold on the launch window games and the amazing features, but I just can't wrap my head around paying $500 for inferior hardware and slapped on Kinect.

How does this effect you and I as consumers.

Elaborate, you aren't making any sense yet.

I want to see how long you can go without making sense.

People tend to gravitate to consoles that have brand identity Pug Pug more often than not. Without Halo there wouldn't have been much of a chance for the first Xbox, correct?

Times when Microsoft let consumers down:

- Announcing games like Alan Wake and Too Human way too early, misleading consumers
- Focus on Kinect over core gaming
- Pricing of X1
- DRM rights on X1

Times when Sony let consumers down:

- Over pricing PS3 ($599) at launch
- Dropping Backwards Compatibility and therefore flip flopping on their BC is important promise
- Dropping dual boot after it was a feature they pushed to sell PS3's
- Announcing games like Killzone 2 and Last Guardian way too early, misleading consumers
- Allowing their PSN to be hacked down for three weeks
- Forcing gamers to pay for multiplayer online through PSN Plus now (Again flip flopping)

Neither company is one I would throw a lot of trust at...

I'm not sure how you dragged this into brand identity. You can't seem to stay on topic, but I'll respond to this...

Even with Halo the original Xbox didn't have much of a chance. It only sold about 24 million units and was crushed by the PS2.

Halo isn't the sole reason the Xbox brand is successful. The biggest reason Xbox brand has become this successful is because Sony fucked up and chased away many of their fans with the PS3. That lead to the Xbox 360 selling a ton of units and helped them get great 3rd party support.
