Forums - Gaming - Xbox One Is Pricey Because Microsoft Doesn't Put Consumers First Like Sony Does

Obviously they're both trying to make a profit but their approaches are different. MS believes they do it by being cold and calculative and maximizing profits at every single turn where possible whereas Sony believe they do it by making their customers happy.

Charging for online play is a great example of how Sony is concernend only with making customers happy.

lol bluray was totally not needed last gen apart from winning Sonyy the format war.......

Tons of mandatory installs, because the loading speeds were inferior to that of DVD tech in the 360. And to top it all off the vast majority of 360s library was single disk, with only JRPS taking up most of those games that required multiple disks.

I was skeptical of Blu Ray....now I threw out my DVD player and now I squarely use the PS3 as my Blu Ray player. All my friends even my 360 and Wii owning friends have Blu Ray players.  It served a purpose inside and out of the gaming industry unlike the Kinect which MS is forcing into the box because they know lightening wont strike twice with peripheral being sold seperately. The market accepted Blu Ray after the market price went down because of the PS3. Sony has been doing this for a while, especially with the PS2. The PS2 was the cheapest DVD player in 2001 much like the PS3 in at its price. Sony made it affordable for all and saved some of the top manufacturers in electronics investment.

1. Your Bluray owning friends probably waited for significant price cuts before adopting that technology. Just like MS did before putting it in their platform. Also, its actually useful now that games are requiring significantly more space. While few 7th gen games needed more than a single DVD.

2. Kinect technology is being used beyond gaming. I can use that technology to play a movie, order a pizza, browse the web, etc. Xbox isn't just a gaming device.

3. The technology would have become affordable with or without Sony pushing it. I'm not sure why you're praising Sony so much for pushing Bluray. Why does it matter so much to you?

MS downplayed Bluray, now they're gonna use it. Sony boasted about free online play, now they're charging for it.

You see how this works?

OP: Pure bollocks.

They are both f'ing corporations who want as much of your money as they can get hold of.

Quit trying to make any of them out to "serve" consumers as some sort of altruistic goal. The most ridiculous blather ever.

Can't we all just get along and play our games in peace?

Exactly Pug, Pug the PS3 was responsible for that. The Wii U is even using a form of Blu Ray. :)

2. Kinect technology is being used beyond gaming. I can use that technology to play a movie, order a pizza, browse the web, etc. Xbox isn't just a gaming device.

Sure it isn't thats what Microsoft would want the casuals to believe, but they aren't going to drop $500 on a console. :)

3. The technology would have become affordable with or without Sony pushing it. I'm not sure why you're praising Sony so much for pushing Bluray. Why does it matter so much to you?

Really?....You do know Blu Ray was going to die had Sony not pushed it right? HD-DVD was destroying it. The PS3 dropped the price and expanded marketshare. Read up on it Pug Pug!  :)

1. A format that plays HD media would have become cheap regardless of Sony. I read that Wii U uses a technology similar to Bluray. But are they paying Bluray licensing fees?

2. Xbox One won't be $500 forever. The masses generally don't buy consoles at its launch price. Use a little logic please.

3. Show me a source that proves HD-DVD was destroying Bluray. But I wouldn't care if Bluray was destryed, the dominant media would have become cheap regardless.

Like I said before. Sony didn't push Bluray to benefit consumers. They pushed it to benefit Sony. They probably didn't anticipate digital media growing so fast though.

Sony is in for both. They wanted to prove they could beat Nintendo in their own domain and by using better tech they would achieve those ends. Microsoft joined the gaming industry solely because Sony was becoming a dominant multimedia force and Microsoft has to stop anyone from doing that, which is why they are facing the top multimedia giants simultaneously as we speak. Games are part of the equation that they must face and eventually they'll get over their hump, but it wasnt a natural transition for them.

i like how people act like they know what a business' intentions are, and then claim to know that a business is "evil" or "good".

why even claim that a company is greedy? if you call them greedy, is it the actual people who work for the
company? just the ones in charge? the CEO?

businesses are businesses, and companies are companies. they exist to make money by providing some sort of service--like supporting a gaming console. they try to promote their service any way they can, and if they fail then they go out of business.

if someone doesn't want to buy Microsoft's product, then they shouldn't buy it. However, when people start claiming that one business is evil and another isn't, that's silly.

Mr. chalkblock here ended this thread several pages ago and no one even noticed!

Way to downplay it Pug Pug. Well played. Nintendo is most likely paying licensing fees and so is MS.

2. Xbox One won't be $500 forever. The masses generally don't buy consoles at its launch price. Use a little logic please.

I know that Pug Pug, but its stupid on Microsofts part since their goal is to beat Sony. They cant beat Sony without some head start or initial push. They will lose the bargain multiplat buyers they took from Sony by making their offerings as close as possible to them. The Kinect will not help because the casuals will not care due to price restrictions and lack of demand so its a lost cause. I'll probably buckle down and get an Xbox because I loves myself some Halo.

3. Show me a source that proves HD-DVD was destroying Bluray. But I wouldn't care if Bluray was destryed, the dominant media would have become cheap regardless.

Yeah, but it would've taken years for that to happen. Can't wait to see 4k tv's drop in price after a couple years. ;)

Like I said before. Sony didn't push Bluray to benefit consumers. They pushed it to benefit Sony. They probably didn't anticipate digital media growing so fast though.

Looks like consumers are benefiting from Blu Ray and its probably the last hard format before full digital. :)

Right, Sony is in for both games and multimedia. Which is no different than MS. I'm glad we got that cleared up.

Sony beat Nintendo simply by throwing money around, getting better support, and using CDs. I'm reluctant to say the PS1 was better technology than N64 for any other reason than CDs.
