I'd argue that graphics discussion doesn't have to be kept to only the cutting edge to be interesting.

I agree.  Just look at games like Wind Waker, Okami or Fez.  Games that aren't cutting edge but beautiful (and a few cross generational) nonetheless.  But this thread was about the technical limitations one console has compared to another...released 6 or 7 years apart.

So while people stating that these new WiiU unreleased game screenshots look better than 6,7 or 8 year old PS360 screenshots, I just found it ironic that they'd be touting the technical superiority of a WiiU in relation to PS360 when PS4/XB1 are on the horizon and those consoles graphics are what should be compared to the WiiU.  You don't see people stating the obvious that PS4 games will look better than PS3 games, because there's no competition.  WiiU on the other hand doesn't fare as well.

But I do agree that there are all different types of interesting graphics discussions to be had.  They're just not very relevant to the topic at hand for me, at least.

Well, since the Wii U is closer in specs to the PS3/360 than to the Xbone/PS4, being a console focussed on its interface (and being small, reliable, cool, quiet, and backwards compatible) rather than horsepower, combined with the secrecy surroundings said specs, those of us with an interest in tech find it intriguing to try to gauge from the evidence at hand just where it stands.

Didn't see it that way.  I'm not tech savvy so I just look at screenshots and stuff.  I've read spec comparisons but really don't know much about them to share an informed opinion.  Good to hear that perspective and understand why some people would make such comparisons.  Still, the disparity between WiiU and PS4/XB1 graphics overshadows what the WiiU is capable of compared to PS360 for me, but I was never a huge Nintendo fan.  I mean, my first console was a SNES, but I am not really a brand loyalist in general.

Problem is, 1st gen PS4 and Xbone games are blowing 1st gen Wii U games out of the water visually.

Bayonetta 2 is the least impressive of the 3.

Mario Kart looks good, and so does X, however visually they're not far from what the PS3 and Xbox 360 are capable of. So I for one don't believe multiplats will look only "slightly" worse on Wii U, I mean let's not kid ourseles the difference is certainly there, 1GB vs 7GB and 5GB + higher bandwitdth RAM and way more powerful GPUs, the Wii U is roughly twice as powerful as a PS3, where as the other consoles are 5 - 10 times that.

Would you guys please stop your dick waving contest over which game has better graphics. I don't care if Bayonetta 2 could run on the N64 or if God of War could push a billion polygons. I love the God of War series and I look forward to Bayonetta 2, but dear god some of you really need to grow up. Or are you so incapable of enjoying two games from different console manufactures?

You are all an embarrassment.

This thread is all about reassuring the Wii U is more capable than the PS360.  That it's visibly better already, the games.  Of course most people already know, there still are a lot of people (like ninjablade and a few others) who still think there isn't and that the Wii U may actually be just as powerful or less than current gen.  The reason people care is because it's not true.

Bold 1: That is ture

Bold 2: That is most certanly not true

Italics refer to both bold 1 and bold 2.
Bold 2 is true, the problem is that it's going to be an ongoing debate because people compare the wrong games to the ones on the Wii U.

Mario Kart 8: Yes
Bayonetta 2: No (Maybe but in 720p and 30 fps)
X: No (Maybe at 720p and 30 fps)

My last bit of immature dick waving before I leave! :D *Read the text in bold below the pictures for why my answer to the OP is yes and how I'm not just criticising Bayonetta 2's visuals to troll but because I'm genuinely not impressed & believe the Wii U could produce better looking games than anything on PS360.

@Zero999 The only impressive thing about GoW3 is some of the enemies? It's one thing to think Bayonetta 2 looks better, it's another thing to downplay how amazing God of War III looks, especially considering it's the developers 1st PS3 game on 7 year old hardware and the game will be 4 years old by the time Bayonetta 2 comes out on a next gen console. Hell maybe it's not fair to compare GoW3 to Bay 2, it even looks better than UC3 and on par with TLoU. Come now, you asked for it,  100% in-game screenshot time! (even though God of War III looks even better in motion thanks to film-like motion blur and great depth of field, both of which Bayonetta 2 doesn't have).

So only some of the enemies look impressive and nothing else? Really? ;D I wonder how many non-bias people would agree that Bay 2 looks better than GoW3? An insignificant minority I'd guess.

I believe God of War III looks significantly better than Beyonetta 2 and its sense of scale is far more impressive (if you still think Bay 2 looks better than either I'm being trolled or you just don't want to accept the truth). If the SSM dropped motion blur & depth of field (didn't notice either effect in the Bay 2 gameplay demo) then I bet GoW3 could run at 1080p/60fps and still look better thus why I believe Bayonetta 2 is doable on PS3 with a talented enough developer and enough time & resources, looking at how visually stunning Castlevania: Lords of Shadow is maybe 360 could too.

Anyway, I'm done now. If someone can look at God of War III and honestly think Bayonetta 2 looks better then I'm not going to waste time arguing with stubborn Nintendo/Bayonetta fans. Also Just because I feel God of War III is a league ahead of Bayonetta 2's visuals I'm not trying to say the Wii U is weaker than current gen HD consoles or that Bayonetta 2 is ugly, not at all, I just think the Wii U is capable of a lot more visually impressive games, Bayonetta 2 should look amazing but honestly it looks pretty much the same as the first game to me just slightly crisper with some light-shafts.

The real question should be can God of War III run on the Wii U?

Just as silly a question really with nobody here qualified to give a definitive answer. I'm out, carry on arguing. :)

LOL...those shots look great they put Second Son's visuals to shame don't they?

Open world vs. Linear action adventure. Second's Son character model looks better than any open world character we've seen this gen

You can't compare games without giving boundaries to what you can compare, because different genres are naturally more taxing on a system than others.  An open-world game is much more taxing than a closed-environement corridor crawling game.  Because of that, one game can "look" better, but when I say "visually" better I mean you can see some of the things that would make it better than a similar game on the opposing system (PS360).
