Forums - Gaming - Destiny "probably one of the biggest investments in a new IP ever in this industry"

“The potential is huge,” Hirshberg told IGN. “It’s a sizeable investment. It’s probably one of the biggest investments in a new IP that’s ever been made in this industry. We wouldn’t be making that investment if we didn’t believe in the potential.

“There are certain mechanics in this industry that people want to be able to pick up and play and immediately be having fun with,” Hirshberg continued. “At the end of the day, it’s a first-person shooter by Bungie. Everyone who loved Halo is going to love Destiny.

“They’re very different games made by very different creative visionaries,” Hirshberg said. “I think that they can peacefully coexist with one another. I think that what Call of Duty has done, it’s done better than anybody. The multiplayer is a visceral, impactful, white-knuckle-ride experience. What Bungie has done, they have done better than anyone as well. The first-person shooter genre has shown tremendous staying power, as well as tremendous capacity in terms of the appetite people have for it. I think what we’ve seen is that if there are good games in this genre, people will show up to play them. But if you have to compete, it’s nice to compete with yourself.”

I'm looking forward to this game. Hopefully we won't have to wait to long for this game to come out.

Neh... I would say WiiFit.. besides making a balanceboard for it the amount of advertising was insane.. clearly the investment on that was way bigger then anything else..

Face the future.. Gamecenter ID: nikkom_nl (oh no he didn't!!)

If I would make an educated guess I'd say $80 million to develop the game and at least $50 million in marketing costs (but could become $100 mill, it remains to be seen).

expensive and sexy as hell.

When Bungie left the Halo series and said they wanted to do something different why did they go back to a FPS? Sure i think this game looks pretty solid but why not stick to Halo if you were just gonna make another FPS game?

I worry for its success.

Man, Activision has gone all out with this title holding absolutely nothing back in terms of funding. I do have to give them props on this occasion for actually investing heavily to bring this new IP to life. I guess some of that cash they made from COD has been put to good use.

I can only imagine what their sales forecast will be for Destiny. Probably like 10 million units sold just to break even or something lol. I hope it does well, but knowing who's developing it and seeing the game, I think it'll do well.

investment well worth it. Bungie proved they have the formula.

hmm, I was really looking forward to this game until I saw the trailer which didn't impress me, then then the gameplay at the PS4 confrence looked even more boring, so I'll probably get this when it becomes cheap.
