It was very popular in Spain among those that watched the first (and only) run. I think it was well known in other countries like France and Italy too.

Saint Seya was dubbed in Spanish and realeased in Spain shortly after the Japanesse Debut it really took off and is actually bigger than it's then TV rival Dragon Ball...It's still pretty big in Spain...In the early 90's it was released in south america and was also a huge win for them....

Saint Seiya is very big here in Brasil
Just for you to have and idea, the CG movie is going to come to brazilian movie theathers and japanese theathers at the same time
