Forums - Microsoft - To those who supported DRM-Xbone because of 'Game Sharing'... it was a cop out

So have seen alot of people who say that MS 180 and reversing the DRM Xbonx to that of a normal console is a 'travesty'

Most cite the phenomenal 'Game Sharing' ability that now wont be available.

I said a long time ago, why didnt MS push this more? it was a good idea... well they didnt push it because it was just a glorified Demo.

Here is a link to a post from one of the people responsible for it...

For those who think TLDR, here is an exert of the important part

First is family sharing, this feature is near and dear to me and I truly felt it would have helped the industry grow and make both gamers and developers happy. The premise is simple and elegant, when you buy your games for Xbox One, you can set any of them to be part of your shared library. Anyone who you deem to be family had access to these games regardless of where they are in the world. There was never any catch to that, they didn’t have to share the same billing address or physical address it could be anyone. When your family member accesses any of your games, they’re placed into a special demo mode. This demo mode in most cases would be the full game with a 15-45 minute timer and in some cases an hour. This allowed the person to play the game, get familiar with it then make a purchase if they wanted to. When the time limit was up they would automatically be prompted to the Marketplace so that they may order it if liked the game.

Still gonna miss that DRM-Xbone?

I never liked it.

Anyone who thought that the feature was as good as it sounded was/is delusional. This could be fake though.

Indeed, they were willing to give up there consumer rights for a 15-45 minute demo... though more likely they didnt know exactly how this 'game sharing' would work, and seen as MS themselves failed to really push it as a selling point, its quite obvious why

Even IronmanDX, who talks about used games being bad, talked about using this feature to save himself 1000s of $ on game purchases. 1000s of $ BTW, that the publishers/developers would never see. Clearly this wasn't going to work.

Ha!

Love the contradiction.

"Poor Devs. I'm gonna share my game with 10 people" LOL.

Yep. A feature like that would have been emphasized like crazy if it had no catch. They only started talking about it a while ago.

lol I know. It was just so funny to read some of the Xbox fans trying to defend the Xbone all this time and it's DRM policies.

They call us fanboys and haters, yet many of us were some of the most hardcore Xbox loyalists (like myself who used 360 as a primary console) who fought day in and day out to make the Xbone a better console. Now that the console is better, they won't even extend a word of gratitude and blame us for taking away their DRM box, when its features were seemingly just a copout.

That's the post that screams 'fake' all over it? Either that, or MS employees live in another reality.

So at the end it wasn't possible to prevent friends from finishing shared games by playing the same shared game, or to have some fun watching friends and family tearing apart each other to get to play my shared games first. Boo, just boo.
