Forums - Sony Discussion - Greatest Hits for PS3 coming soon?

North America:
Rumor out there (Surfer Girl) saying SCEA will launch PS3 Greatest Hits pretty soon.  The price is still unknown, but very likely to be $29.99.  The first wave of PS3 Greatest Hits in NA includes:
Warhawk (should be $19.99 w/o headset, IMHO)
Motorstorm
Resistance

JAPAN:
SCEJ has just announced the first wave of PS3 Greatest Hits in Japan, priced at 3800 yen (~$35).  These titles will be released in March.
Resistance
FolksSoul (Folklore)
Ridge Racer 7
Mobile Suit Gundam: Crossfire
Ninja Gaiden Sigma
Interestingly, Armored Core 4 has been released as a greatest hit title in January, and the price is lower: 2900 yen (~$26).  I guess that is an exception.

It (PS3's market share) might hit 30%, but definently not more. ~ Neo

If folklore drops to $29.99 I would immediatly purchase it.

 2008 end of year predictions:

PS3: 22M

360: 25M

wii: 40M

thats cool. lookin forward to a greatest hits. should be:

- Resistance
- Motorstorm
- Call of Duty 4
- Uncharted
- Assassin's Creed
- PES 2008
- FIFA 08

All the million sellers world-wide should be greatest hits.

I don't have a PS3 but I would also buy it for that price ^^''.  I am scared the game will be seldom later.

Don't they need to hit some sort of sales success to be called "Greatest Hits"?

@darconi:

Perhaps they'll have to repurpose the name of the line as "Value Priced!" or something.

Sports games inevitably drop in price as the next iteration's release approaches.  They aren't really suitable for a "Greatest Hits"-type line.

That's weird, I thought they had to reach some type of sales requirement. Because Folklore is on that list and it bombed badly in Japan.

But if this is true then it's good news for Sony. Nintendo needs to take note.

From Wikipedia:

When Sony introduced the program for PlayStation in 1997, games could become GH titles after selling at least 150,000 copies and being on the market for at least a year. Minimum sales required eventually rose to 250,000.

When the program came to PlayStation 2 in 2002, games could become GH titles after selling at least 400,000 copies and being on the market for at least 9 months.

Third-party publishers, however, can set their own GH prices and are not required to make their games GH titles after passing the minimums. Games that are multi-million sellers may become GH titles much later than 9 months to maximize profits.

In 2006, Sony extended the Greatest Hits program to the PlayStation Portable. To qualify, a title must be on the market for at least 9 months and have sold 250,000 copies or more.

Dont know the rule for PS3. Probably lower to 250,000 copies like PS1 and PSP. WW sale surpassing 250,000 is not that strigent.
