Forums - Nintendo - Nintendo: All These Sequels Don't Mean We're 'Playing It Safe'

The thing is, if Nintendo were to make a new IP, it wouldn't just be a new skin over an already established gameplay style. It seems all people want is a new 3D platformer that doesn't have Mario. The question is why? Chances are it wouldn't be as well received. I'm glad their new IPs have come in the form of eShop titles like Dillon's Rolling Western and Pushmo/Crashmo.

I agree with him. Sony is known for taking other peoples IP's changing a few things and calling it a new experience. See PS all Stars, Uncharted, LBP, Modnation, or any other IP they have come up with last gen, its all just copies of what some other company did first.
The same people crying over 3 similar Marios between ds,Wii and Wii U are foaming at the mouth for part 5 or 6 of series on their console of choice so their argument usually ends up not being valid in the end.
When Nintendo does make a new IP it is ignored by the people asking for it. I can think of 5 from last gen but if I named then, the excuses would begin.

Worst post I've read in a very long time.

It means you don't have any new ideas. Which is worse than playing it safe.

Game of the year 2017 so far:

5. Resident Evil VII
4. Mario Kart 8 Deluxe
3. Uncharted: The Lost Legacy
2. Horizon Zero Dawn
1. Super Mario Odyssey

You just completely missed the point. They have plenty of ideas which they integrate in their proven franchises.

Their problem is not a lack of ideas, it's a lack of desire in making a new IP, or just not understanding the value of a new IP intrinsically.

Kid Icarus: Uprising was not mentioned once in the article. *rageface*

...Xenoblade Chronicles, The Last Story, Pandoras Tower, The Wonderful 101, Kid Icarus...

inbefore someone telling me that those don´t count because they weren´t developed by first party studios....
It is always the same tired dance !

Well to be fair....three of those indeed don't count.  Same reason I don't list Demon's Souls or Soul Sacrifice when I'm talking about Sony new IPs.  They put the money forth for them but you can't really say Nintendo or Sony actually made these games.

edit: to be clear I'm talking about The Last Story, Pandora's Tower, and Wonderful 101, the other two obviously "count"

The Last Story, Pandora's Tower, and The Wonderful 101 are not developed by first-party studios.

However, a lot of people seem to not realize that Xenoblade is, and that's by far the best game you listed.

Edit: Ninjas. Ninjas everywhere.

Wow, just wow.

On topic:Nintendo should try more new ips though. Though the sequels do sell consoles so they are important too. That kind of is playing it safe though.

I can´t believe I was actually dumb enough to include Xenoblade ( I know, I know, Monolith is a first party studio :D )
