I think we could see better value bundles but at thr same price, meaning Deluxe goes down to $299 and release bundles at $349. Some possible bundles being

Deluxe w/NSMBU+Wiimote-$349

Deluxe w/Wii Fit+Balance Board-$349

Deluxe w/COD+Pro Controller-$349

So a true price cut isnt really necessary since there will be plenty of holiday deals/bundles.

I could see this happening minus the balance board part.  A game is one thing but that balance board is not super cheap to make (at least when compared to a game).

How much do those typically cost?

Well, this is risky though. If you prematurely perform a price cut on a $flexible console such as Wii U the effects could be horrible. They are still selling it at a loss guys, at least let them dull the pain for a while. I do think that a price cut will be necessary in 2014 though. With Mario Kart 8 and Smash Bros. a price cut is almost inevitable.

With 3DS, quite an underpowered system when compared to PSV, received a price cut it was after SM3D Land and that was when 3DS begn its road to conquest. You can't cut prices on a console so quickly. Just wait.

No idea, but even a cheap bathroom scale runs 20 bucks.  A lot more than just a disc costs no?  I suppose they could do it if they wanted to be aggressive (compared to where they are at now).

Does Wii U Fit have the ability to be as big as the first one?  Are we still riding a console work out craze?  I think Mario Kart bundled is their best bet, but that is NEXT holiday.

This holiday would be Mario Land.

In terms of consoles, the next year is pretty early based on past example...  But maybe times are a changin.

They'll have 3D Mario, Pikmin 3, and W101 at the end of the year. They have the software, they NEED to cut the price before Christmas or it's gameover, talking N64 levels sales best scenario. After 2014 when Smash and Kart have already been released, it's going to be nothing but decline, so they need to make the absolute most of the end of this year as well.

That said, I fully expect a major price cut coinciding with 3D Worlds to counter the launch of the PS4 and One (which I fully expect will be dropped to $399 before launch). I also feel incredibly confident they're no longer taking a loss on the hardware.

it seems like a reasonable stance from the op,maximising profit but i'm pretty sure they are in direct competition with microsoft and sony for gaming dollars whatever we think is or is not going on at a particular time

I didn't say it's the only reason that Nintendo won, I said it's the only things they needed to do.  This is because the markets are different.  Nintendo has a stranglehold on the market in handhelds.  The DS sold 150 million units.  Nintendo owns all of the biggest handheld franchises save Monster Hunter.  3rd parties are not major players in handhelds, and the only direct competition for Nintendo is Sony, which puts most of its efforts in consoles.  In consoles, MS, Sony and 3rd parties are major, major players.  This is a very different market.

That isn't all you said but the Bolded makes it sound like Nintendo will win with a HH no matter what. Anyway, it doesn't matter :)

I just looked it up Wii Fit Plus and Balnce Board cost $79 and thats likely at a decent profit, so I dont think its too unreasonable they sell them bundled with the console for an additional $50

Nah, what I was saying is the 3DS is ideally designed and Nintendo has just about everything going for it in the handheld market, while their competition is challenged.  PSP put up a fight, but when Nintnedo dropped the price and secured MH4 exclusivity, the battle was done for Vita, at least in Japan.

With home consoles, Nintendo is in a much less favorable position with much tougher competition.  A price drop and a 3rd party exclusive wouldn't (necessarily) have the same effect.  XBOx and PS are stronger brands at home, and Wii U already has a price advantage that may or may not be a factor.  3rd parties are a bigger factor at home.  THe demographic is older.  THere are lots of differences between the home and handheld markets.

Very good point!
I have hadnt tought about it, and completely makes sense.

But i hope for a price reduction next year, and maybe a bundle with mario kart or bayonetta.
